CM flags concern over students getting flunked in Inter exams
The Chief Minister pointed out that the students in 10th standard are passing in large numbers. However, the same number of students could not pass out in Intermediate. He ordered the officials to identify the challenges to achieve a good pass percentage of inter students and resolve them through initiatives.
At a review of the Education department here on Wednesday, the CM said that since the intermediate stage is crucial for the students to make their career, proper guidance should be given to the students during the period. Officials briefed the CM that dropouts are less in some states where 9th to 12th standard education system is implemented. The Chief Minister instructed the officials to conduct a study and submit a comprehensive report on running the schools up to 12th standard and separate intermediate.
Revanth Reddy suggested to the officials to seek the advice of the Education Commission, NGOs working in the education sector, and civil society. 'We will discuss the improvement of intermediate education at all stages in the Legislative Assembly', the Chief Minister said, adding that more attention should be paid to the enrolment of students in intermediate as well as their attendance.
Reviewing the designs and models of the Young India Residential School buildings, the CM suggested that a huge national flag be installed in the premises of every school and also instructed the officials to submit a weekly report to him on the progress of the construction of the schools. The Young India Residential Schools will be constructed exclusively for boys and girls in every Assembly constituency. Since the land acquisition for each school has already been completed, the CM directed that the focus should be on the identification and acquisition process for the second school. Revanth Reddy also reviewed the construction model of Veeranari Chakali Ilamma Mahila Vishwa Vidyalayam (Women's University) and suggested several changes. The CM ordered that the tender process be completed at the earliest.

Revanth recalled the political maturity shown in 1991 when TDP founder N T Rama Rao extended support to P V Narasimha Rao, who contested from Nandyal. 'Today, the same wisdom is needed,' he remarked. Govt. will consider extending Bengaluru metro's Yellow Line till Jigani, says DCM
Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, who also holds the Bengaluru City Development portfolio, on Tuesday told the Legislative Assembly that the government will consider extending the Namma Metro's Yellow Line till Attibele. He made the statement in the Assembly during the Question Hour while replying to Congress member B. Shivanna, who demanded that the recently inaugurated Yellow Line be extended till Attibele. Presently, it links R.V. Road with Bommanahalli. Responding positively, Mr. Shivakumar said he had spoken to officials concerned in this regard on Tuesday. 'We have asked R.V. Associates of Hyderabad to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on extending this metro line,' he said. Pointing out that the KHB is set to build a world class stadium with a capacity of 90,000 seats near Attibele, he said there was a need to link the new metro line with this place. 'We have to take the metro to another 11-12 km to link Jigani. It is a potential place. We will take suitable measures,' he said.

Karnataka Assembly session: Bill passed to regularise illegal buildings by levying penalty
The Legislative Assembly on Tuesday passed the Karnataka Municipal Corporations (Amendment) Bill, 2025, allowing Municipal Commissioners to regularise unlawful buildings by levying a penalty. Extent of violations Urban Development Minister B.S. Suresh (Byrathi) said the extent of building plan violations eligible for regularisation is being raised from 5% to 15%. The Bill would allow regularising buildings on small sites. The size would be specified in the rules, but it would not exceed 20x30 ft. and 30x40 ft. sites, he said The Bill also envisages exempting small properties from requiring commencement certificates (CC) and occupancy certificates (OC), which is expected to benefit the poor income categories and middle-class families. Mr. Suresh explained the objectives of the Bill and said the amendments will apply to only such unlawful buildings that can be regularised as per the provisions of the building bylaws or any Act in force. This will not apply to buildings that have been ordered for demolition. As per the Bill, Municipal Commissioners can issue OCs to citizens by levying a penalty on them if they had not obtained CCs at the time of starting construction. Similarly, a penalty can be levied 'up to the extent or deviation in the construction with respect to the sanctioned plan or zonal regulation limit as may be specified in the bylaws'. Certification process It also allowed Corporations to empanel professionals such as architects, engineers, structural consultants, and environmental consultants who are empanelled by the local authority as authorised persons to inspect the building sites before, during and after construction, to certify them and sanction building plans. Empanelled engineers will be allowed to approve building plans up to 4,000 sq. ft., the Minister said. BJP members, including C.N. Ashwath Narayan, flayed the Bill for limiting the violations to 15% and said it should be aimed at collecting penalties. He demanded that the provisions of the Bill be extended to all buildings. It may be recalled here that the Supreme Court has stayed the Akrama-Sakrama scheme that aimed to regularise unauthorised urban buildings by imposing a penalty. To ban strikes The State legislative Assembly passed the Karnataka Essential Services Maintenance (Amendment) Bill, 2025, to ban strikes by Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) employees. Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy explained the provisions of the Bill and said it aimed to extend the Act for another 10 years with effect from May 27, 2025. Mr Reddy piloted the Bill in 2015 also. On ports The Karnataka Ports (Landing and Shipping Fees) (Amendment) Bill, 2025, was passed to revise fees on goods shipped and hike or reduce the percentage of fees by the government at the ports. On co-operatives The House passed the Karnataka Souharda Sahakari (Amendment) Bill, 2025, for maintaining 20% of the total deposits as State statutory liquid reserve to manage increasing cases of misappropriation. It aimed to revise the reservation of seats of the board in favour of members belonging to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Women and other Backward Classes; and compel the candidate contesting for election, the director and the Chief Executive to declare their assets and liabilities at the end of every year to control the misappropriation. The Bill also envisaged filing a criminal case against the person involved in irregularities or misappropriation for fraudulence reports.
