Boy drowned in pool: AAP blames MCD for negligence
New Delhi: The AAP on Sunday alleged that a six-year-old boy who drowned in a swimming pool in northwest Delhi's Pitampura died due to the negligence of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).

The boy drowned in the swimming pool of an MCD-run community centre.Addressing a press conference, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD Ankush Narang alleged that the boy's death was the 'result of gross negligence and administrative failure' on the part of the civic agency. No lifeguard was present at the time of the incident and the facility lacked both safety equipment and CCTV surveillance, he claimed. 'By the time a lifeguard was called and the child was pulled out, it was too late,' the AAP leader said.
Narang said the silence of Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on this incident is 'shameful' and demanded that accountability be fixed.
He further said, 'This tragedy should have never occurred in the first place. But it happened under their watch. What steps have been taken to prevent such incidents in future? Has the MCD ensured installation of CCTV cameras, adherence to safety protocols and deployment of trained lifeguards across its facilities?'

Assembly bypolls: Ludhiana (West) in Punjab sees 33 pc turnout
Chandigarh: Nearly thirty-three per cent of voters exercised their franchise on Thursday till 1 p.m. to elect the legislator for the Ludhiana (West) constituency that fell vacant after the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. The voting started at 7 a.m. In the first two hours, the polling percentage was 8.50 per cent, which rose to 21.51 per cent by 11 am. The polling at 194 polling booths will continue till 6 p.m. The counting of votes will be held on June 23 simultaneously with four other Assembly seats -- two in Gujarat and one each in Kerala and West Bengal. The state ruling Aam Aadmi Party is eyeing to retain the seat, and the main Opposition Congress is aiming to win back the seat that it had represented six times. In total, 14 candidates are in the fray for the urban seat. The BJP and the Shiromani Akali Dal have also fielded candidates for the seat. The main contest largely seems between AAP's candidate Sanjeev Arora, the party's Rajya Sabha member and local industrialist, Congress' former minister Bharat Bhushan Ashu, who represented the seat twice from 2012. Ashu was defeated by his friend-turned-foe Gogi, 58, by a margin of 7,512 votes in the 2022 Assembly poll. Punjab: Over 33 polling till 1 pm in Ludhiana West Assembly bypoll

The counting of votes will be held on June 23. Ludhiana, Jun 19 (PTI) A voter turnout of 33.42 percent was recorded till 1 pm in the bypoll for the Ludhiana West Assembly in Punjab on Thursday. Jain asked voters to set a new record of turnout by coming out in massive numbers to cast their votes. He said polling will continue until the last voter is present inside the polling station. The Ludhiana West Assembly seat fell vacant following the death of AAP MLA Gurpreet Bassi Gogi in January. There are a total of 14 candidates in the fray and 1,75,469 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise – 85,371 of them women and 10 belonging to the third gender. AAP candidate Sanjeev Arora exercised his franchise along with his family members. Before casting votes, Arora paid obeisance at a gurdwara, a temple and the Dargah Pir in Phillaur. Speaking to reporters, Arora appealed to the people to come out in large numbers to cast their votes. 'Please come out to vote and have maximum voting today,' he said. Congress candidate Bharat Bhushan Ashu, BJP nominee Jiwan Gupta and SAD's Parupkar Singh Ghuman also cast their votes. Outside the entrance of polling stations, designated counters were set up for voters to securely deposit their mobile devices. These counters were managed by trained volunteers using jute or cloth bag mobile holders. 'In a first-of-its-kind initiative, all polling stations in Ludhiana West have made arrangements for safe mobile phone deposit aims to enhance the voter experience while at the same time upholding the secrecy of voting,' the chief electoral officer, Punjab said in a post on X. Polling stations were equipped with poll volunteers, wheelchairs and help desk to assist voters, said officials. The voting process is being monitored in real-time from the integrated command and control centre located at the district administrative complex. As many as 235 CCTV cameras have been installed at polling stations, said officials. The ruling AAP has fielded Rajya Sabha member Arora for the bypoll. Arora (61) is a Ludhiana-based industrialist and is also known for his social welfare work. He runs the Krishna Pran Breast Cancer Charitable Trust. The Congress has placed its bet on former minister and Punjab Congress working president Ashu (51). Ashu had been MLA twice from this seat in 2012 and 2017.
