Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has said the coming together of estranged cousins Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray was "good for democracy", but also sent a strong message that people support those who work for their welfare.In a video interview to PTI, Shinde remarked that Uddhav Thackeray had once dismissed his cousin Raj, who made a dramatic exit from the Shiv Sena in 2005 after being sidelined, and it was ironic for the two to reunite."It would be incorrect to say that the Thackeray cousins had separated. Raj was expelled from the Shiv Sena. The same people who had questioned his (Raj's) influence are now thinking of joining hands again. It is a good thing. In an electoral democracy, anyone can join hands with anybody," Shinde said.He said anyone can go anywhere, it is their personal choice, but people support those who work for them and think about their welfare."People recognise the work and not the 'name'. People have decided who works for them and who sits at home. People make those people sit at home who like to sit at home," Shinde said in an apparent reference to Uddhav Thackeray.Shinde toppled Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government of Shiv Sena-Congress-NCP, contending that Thackeray had abandoned the principles of Hindutva espoused by Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray.He walked out with more than two-thirds of Sena MLAs and MPs in June 2022 and later earned the tag of 'real' Shiv Sena from the Election Commission.The Thackeray cousins shared the stage in Mumbai last month for a "victory rally" after the Maharashtra government rolled back its controversial three-language policy that made learning Hindi mandatory in primary schools.The coming together of the Thackeray cousins is keenly watched after the shock defeat of Shiv Sena-UBT in the Maharashtra Assembly elections last year as the party managed to win only 20 seats of the 100 it had contested as part of an alliance with the Congress and NCP-SP.The upcoming elections to the Mumbai municipal corporations is seen as an existential battle for Uddhav Thackeray as Shinde looks to dominate politics in the financial capital of the country."In a democracy, anybody can form a coalition. I am not going to criticise anyone on that count. But, I only want to state that during my two-and-a-half years' tenure as chief minister, a number of decisions were taken by me and Devendra Fadnavis for the development of Mumbai and Maharashtra," Shinde said.Asked about Uddhav Thackeray calling him 'gaddar' (traitor), Shinde hit back saying it was Thackeray who betrayed the ideals of Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray."The word 'gaddar' he uses for me, actually fits him very well. In 2019, the people had given the mandate to the BJP and Shiv Sena. He (Uddhav Thackeray) betrayed that mandate and joined hands with the Congress and NCP. He is the real culprit," Shinde said.He said Thackeray had insulted the mandate of the people in 2019 and the voters taught him a good lesson in the 2024 assembly elections.

Kalyan also referred to the 'One Nation, One Legislature' concept and the House's digital transition, stressing the media's role in making India a developed nation by 2047. 'There is no limit to learning. No matter how high we reach, there is always room for improvement and learning,' Kalyan said. Former Haryana chief secretary Keshni Anand Arora said diligence, positive thinking and inner happiness are keys to success, urging journalists to work with optimism despite challenges. She said that having a clear goal in life is essential. 'Without a goal, one is like a ship without direction,' she said, noting that the media faces many challenges. PRS Legislative Research's Chakshu Roy cautioned that covering expunged remarks or unpublished documents from the House amounts to a breach of privilege. Haryana Sahitya and Sanskriti Academy director Chander Trikha stressed that credibility must remain intact despite challenges, even as Panjab University's Gurmeet Singh, a professor in the Hindi department, advised journalists to strengthen their technical knowledge.

‘Never thought we would see his face again': 19-year-old Bengal migrant returns weeks after sent to Bangladesh
A 19-year-old Bengali migrant who was detained by Rajasthan police on June 19 and later deported to Bangladesh has finally returned home, his family and local leaders said on Tuesday. The case came to light after a video of Amir Sheikh, filmed in Bangladesh, circulated on social media. Amir, a resident of Jalalpur village under Kaliachowk police station in Malda, had gone to Rajasthan to work as a construction labourer. However, his family lost contact with him after his detention. Amir lost his mother five years ago and his father works as a migrant labourer in Uttar Pradesh. Ajmal said the family first saw the video last month and learned that Amir had been pushed into Bangladesh. ' We got a call last evening from someone in Basirhat. I did not know who he was. We then spoke with Amir on video call. I identified him. He said he was in a Bangladesh jail. Then we were told that he would be brought back. This morning we received another call stating that he is with the BSF. We are waiting for further instructions,' Ajmal said. In a video message on social media, Isha Khan Choudhury, Congress MP from Malda Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency, said central agencies and the Border Security Forces (BSF) had traced Amir. 'We are happy to share with the people of the constituency and press colleagues that a wrongly expelled Indian citizen was traced in Bangladesh by the central government and BSF,' she said. After being detained in the labour camp in Rajasthan, Mr Amir Sheikh is being released today. BSF ADG of West Bengal told me that Amir Sheikh is now in BSF control. They will inform the family today about the development.' 'Earlier I had spoken to the home secretary and BSF DG over the issue. I hope such an incident never takes place in the country. Indian citizens and travel throughout the country. It is a fundamental right. It is sad that the person was arrested and deported. But today is a happy day that he has been brought back to India,' added Choudhury in his message. Samirul Islam, TMC Rajya Sabha MP and chairman of the West Bengal Migrant Labour Welfare Board, said the family had been supported from the start. 'Amir Sk, a migrant worker from Malda's Kaliachak, was deported to Bangladesh by the Rajasthan police. Since his deportation, we have been with the family from day one, extending all kinds of support to them. We also helped his father move the Calcutta High Court with a habeas corpus petition. Following the petition, top Rajasthan government officials and those from the Centre were summoned by the hon'ble court. The case was scheduled to be heard tomorrow,' he said. 'As interestingly there was no way to repatriate Amir except through legal intervention, as he had been tagged under a case involving illegal entry into Bangladesh. Amid such a situation, the central government is now trying to repatriate Amir Sheikh to his Malda home to save face and avoid the legal blow for the illegal pushback,' Islam added. ' One has to do something so that this trend of pushing out our Bengal residents to Bangladesh stops. There should be proper rehabilitation for such victims,' said Asif Faruk, state general secretary of the Parijayi Sramik Aikya Manch (Migrant Workers' Unity Forum). In the video last month, accessed by The Indian Express, Amir Sheikh is seen speaking to residents in Bangladesh. He identifies himself, shares his West Bengal address, and alleges that after being detained for two months, he was recently sent across the border into Bangladesh. The incident comes in the wake of similar cases across several states, including Haryana, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Delhi and Madhya Pradesh. On June 14, seven residents of West Bengal were detained in Mumbai and later pushed into Bangladesh by the BSF. After intervention by the West Bengal government, four youths from Murshidabad, one from Purba Bardhaman and a husband-wife duo from North 24 Parganas were brought back.
