Man arrested after gunfight for jewellery store heist
The July 24 robbery involved two men posing as Swiggy and Blinkit delivery agents who stole 125 grams of gold worth Rs 30 lakh, 20kg of silver, and Rs 30,000 in cash from Mansi Jewellers.
Earlier, six individuals were arrested in the case following a complaint by the shop owner.
According to police, the accused, Abhishek, is a resident of Loni and was absconding after the theft. Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for his arrest.

Shweta Yadav, ACP of Sahibabad, said that on the evening of Aug 4, a joint operation by the SWAT team and Link Road police was conducted near the Industrial Area outpost. During the operation, a motorcyclist without a license plate was spotted.
When signalled to stop, he tried to flee.
"As the police pursued him, the suspect fired at the officers with the intent to kill. In self-defence, the police returned fire, hitting the suspect in both legs. Police took him to a nearby hospital for treatment, and he is stable now. From his possession, an illegal firearm, a live and a spent cartridge, Rs 6,000 related to the incident, and a stolen motorcycle without a license plate were recovered," Yadav said.
"During interrogation, the accused revealed that the stolen Splendor motorcycle and the Swiggy and Blinkit uniforms used during the robbery were given to the two main accused, Kapil and Manish, by him. Investigations further revealed that the accused was previously booked in Delhi for other robbery and theft incidents," Yadav added.
All the accused were booked under Section 309 (4) (punishment for robbery) of the BNS at Link Road police station. A video of the robbery also went viral on social media, showing two men entering the shop with their faces covered by helmets. One of the accused was wearing a Blinkit uniform, while the other, a Swiggy uniform.

Man gets life term for raping 3 minor girls in 2022
Cuttack: A special Pocso court here on Thursday convicted a 24-year-old man of raping three minor girls in 2022 and sentenced him to life imprisonment. "No leniency can be shown to the convict who has committed an offence under Pocso Act against innocent minor girls aged less than 12 years when the same is proved by adequate evidence," presiding judge Himansu Sekhar Singh observed while pronouncing the sentence. The judge recommended the case of the three girls to the district legal services authority (DLSA) for granting compensation as per Odisha Victim Compensation Scheme. "The girls were children less than 12 years of age at the time of occurrence who were sexually assaulted by the accused. Accordingly, the victims are awarded Rs 4 lakh each as compensation under the scheme," the judge ordered, adding, "The copy of the judgment be forwarded to the secretary, DLSA, Cuttack for information and necessary action." Special public prosecutor Ramesh Chandra Mohanty led the prosecution, while advocate R K Das represented the accused. According to the trial court order, the cases were registered on the basis of complaints lodged by the parents of the girls at a police station in Cuttack city on Sept 12, 2022. Farmer killed in wild elephant attack near Madikeri
Madikeri: A 72-year-old farmer was killed in a wild elephant attack in Madikeri taluk on Wednesday night. Shivappa, a farmer from Chembu village near Sampaje, was killed just outside his house, at around 8:30 pm. He heard unusual noises outside his home and stepped out to investigate, when a wild elephant suddenly attacked him. His screams alerted nearby residents, who rushed to his aid. However, Shivappa had sustained grievous injuries and was lying in a pool of blood in the verandah of his house. His family members transported him to a nearby hospital, but he succumbed to his injuries before receiving any medical assistance, authorities said. State wildlife board member Sanketh Poovaiah visited the victim's family to collect details of the incident. He spoke to forest officials and urged them to to drive the elephants back into the forest immediately. The department officials have assured that compensation will be released at the earliest. Labour dept rescues 152 child labourers in Mys dist over 3 years
Mysuru: The state department of labour has rescued 152 children during its drive against child labour in Mysuru district over the past three years. Labour officials, along with those from other departments, conducted surprise inspections, targeting street vendors and other outlets. They filed FIRs against 15 owners for employing child labourers, and filed 123 cases in courts. The department conducted more than 3,500 drives against child labour, in coordination with women and child development, social welfare, panchayati raj, home, and the Karnataka child labour eradication project society (KSLEP), rescuing and rehabilitating 152 child labourers. Additionally, the department collected penalties totalling Rs 4.78 lakh from employers in more than 49 cases. The courts penalised the employers for employing child labourers. According to year-wise reports, the department rescued 67 child labourers in 2022-23, 32 in 2023-24, and 53 in 2024-25. It also filed FIRs against 15 employers at police stations, with 123 cases pending in court.
