Forum in Salalah concludes with bold visions for the future of work
The second day of the forum featured extensive dialogue sessions that discussed key topics related to the work environment, attracting talent, and the importance of social dialogue in building sustainable labor markets.
The first session, titled 'A Motivating Work Environment and Attracting Talent,' featured four working papers focusing on the role of social protection in supporting the labor market, career guidance and counseling to empower the workforce, effective public-private sector partnerships, and the role of occupational health and safety systems in stimulating work environments.
The 'Social Dialogue and the Future of Labor Markets' session was also dedicated to an extensive discussion involving a number of researchers who presented working papers during the forum. They reviewed the most prominent challenges and proposed solutions, emphasising the importance of building effective models for social dialogue that contribute to developing labor policies and achieving balance among production stakeholders.
In a related context, the Student Projects Exhibition, titled 'Future Talents…Think and Act,' continues its activities as part of the Work Forum, with the participation of students from vocational colleges. Today, the exhibition featured a workshop titled 'Psychological and Professional Resilience: A Essential Skill in the Modern Work Environment.' The exhibition continues until August 7.

Oman: $7.7mln Quriyat fishing port upgrade 83% complete
Muscat – Construction of a marine wharf development project at Quriyat fishing port is 83% complete, according to Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources. Costing more than RO2.97mn, the project is part of efforts to modernise fishing ports and boost their role in coastal economies under Oman Vision 2040. Mohammed bin Abdullah al Rashdi, Civil Engineer at Directorate General of Fishing Ports in the ministry, said the project aims to boost economic diversification, attract investment and develop the fishing fleet. 'The ministry seeks to create an investment-friendly environment and make better use of fish resources by improving port services for both public and private use,' he said. The development includes a 185m fixed berth on the breakwater, designed to improve maritime handling operations and expand the port's capacity. 'We are also constructing a new marine berth for mooring ships and boats, which will increase efficiency in port operations,' Rashdi said. A 33,000sqm investment plot is being created within the port to host commercial and service activities linked to the marine fisheries. Oman: $319mln sewage and water works underway in Bausher
Muscat – Nama Water Services is pressing ahead with major infrastructure projects across Oman to expand wastewater networks, build trea-tment plants, and improve pumping and treated water systems. One of the largest initiatives under way is in Bausher, Muscat governorate, where seven sewage network projects are being implemented at a combined cost of RO123mn. Jafar bin Mahna al Hadhrami, Project Manager for Muscat governorate at Nama Water Servic-es, said the works in Bausher inc- lude 311km of main and seconda- ry sewage network lines and 34km of potable water networks. 'The aim is to enhance basic services for residents while supporting long-term infrastructure plans.' In Bausher Heights, a sewage network project costing RO17.5mn is under construction. Set for completion in 2028, it will serve 60,000 people and cover 68km of sewage networks with 1,100 inspection chambers and 6,850 house connections. Current completion rate is 10%. A sewage network project in South Azaiba costing RO5.6mn is 12% complete. With 49km of networks, 1,714 inspection chambers and 722 house connections, it will benefit 13,000 people on completion by 2027. Hadhrami said the first phase of rehabilitating sewage networks in North Ghubra and North Azaiba, costing RO24mn, will start in mid-September 2025. Completion is expected in 2028. The works will include a new 4km main sewage line, replacement of 812 inspection chambers, rehabilitation of the current main line, and linking networks to the pumping station. To improve pumping capacity, a RO21mn station is being built for Bausher and Al Ansab. It will feature two 17km discharge lines and a 3.5km gravity sewer line to connect both networks. Completion is targeted for 2028. In Al Ansab, a RO25.7mn sew-age network project is 8% comp-lete. It will include 75.5km of net- works, 1,160 inspection chambers and 4,180 household connectio-ns, with completion set for 2028. Hadhrami said two projects are also under way in Al Khuwair. The Al Khuwair 1/17 project, cos-ting RO14.3mn, will provide 882 home connections, 30km of sew-age networks, 15km of potable water networks and 1km of trea-ted wastewater networks. The Al Khuwair 2/17 project, worth RO15mn, will provide 858 home connections, 30km of sewage networks, 19km of potable water networks and 2.2km of treated wastewater networks. Oman: Hotel revenues rise 18.2% to $366mln in H1 2025
Muscat – Revenues from three- to five-star hotels in Oman grew 18.2% to RO141.21mn by the end of June 2025, compared to RO119.50mn in the same period of 2024, according to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). Guests rose 9.2% year-on-year to 1,142,702, up from 1,046,224. Occupancy rates increased 14.4% to 54.7%, compared to 47.8% in the first half of 2024. By nationality, Oceanian visitors recorded the highest growth rate, up 57.9% to 24,681 guests, followed by African visitors, up 40.6% to 7,794. Guests from the Americas increased 22.3% to 39,293, while European arrivals rose 20.1% to 358,190. GCC visitors grew 10.6% to 83,140, and Omani guests rose 5.7% to 384,222.
