Detroit Tigers' Matt Vierling re-injures right shoulder; Wenceel Pérez activated
The Detroit Tigers placed Vierling, an outfielder/third baseman who recently returned from a right shoulder injury, on the injured list Tuesday, May 27, with right shoulder inflammation. The 28-year-old had been active for just four days between stints on the injured list, playing in four games.

There wasn't an event that caused Vierling's right shoulder to become an issue again.
"We put him on the injured list, which should tell you we don't think he can play," manager A.J. Hinch said before Tuesday's game against the San Francisco Giants at Comerica Park. "We'll have more information as we get more tests, and more doctors need to weigh in."

To replace Vierling, the Tigers activated outfielder Wenceel Pérez from the 60-day injured list following his recovering from lumbar spine inflammation.

Pérez will make his 2025 season debut as the Tigers' center fielder Tuesday. The 25-year-old suffered the lower back injury in late March during the final Grapefruit League game in spring training.
"We should not steal any joy away from getting Wenceel back," Hinch said. "This guy is so fun to be around. He's energetic, big smile, bounces around the clubhouse."

Meanwhile, Vierling had been sidelined since Feb. 23 — the second game of spring training — with a strained rotator cuff muscle in his right shoulder. He spent three months recovering and rehabbing before the Tigers activated him Friday, May 23, against the Cleveland Guardians at Comerica Park.

Four days later, Vierling landed on the injured list again.
It's the same shoulder.
"There wasn't a singular event or an episode or anything," Hinch said. "He came in and complained of some shoulder soreness. We sent him for tests. He saw some doctors. We're going to need to get further testing, but we can't mess with this coming off the most recent shoulder issue that he's had."

LSU lands No. 1 college football recruit Lamar Brown in huge get
The No. 1 recruit in the 2026 recruiting class, according to ESPN's rankings, is off the board. The five-star defensive tackle Lamar Brown is committing to his home state school, LSU. 'For the next three or four years, I will be committing to Louisiana State University.' Brown said as he put on the LSU cap on Thursday. 'Go Tigers.' This spring, though, he has focused most of his attention on defense. In his three seasons at the varsity level, Brown recorded 91 tackles and eight sacks. 'I get to play Saturday nights at Death Valley, that's all,' Brown said when asked about what he's excited for at LSU. 'I'm going to win the National Championship. Brown is not the only five-star recruit committed to LSU. Tristen Keys and Trenton Henderson also headline Brian Kelly's 2026 recruiting class. The recruiting class is ranked seventh in the nation. Even before Brown steps on campus, LSU is primed and ready to make a deep run in the 2025 season, as they are bringing in a top transfer class heading into next season. LSU brings back quarterback Garrett Nussmeier as the Tigers try to make the College Football Playoff after missing out in 2024.

PITTSBURGH — Detroit Tigers outfielder Kerry Carpenter has taken the next step in his return from a right hamstring strain that's sidelined him since late June. The 27-year-old began his rehab assignment Tuesday, July 22, with Triple-A Toledo, serving as the designated hitter. Former Clemson football standout finds new home in NFL
We have signed Safety K'Von WallaceDetails: A former Clemson football standout and two-time national champion has found a new home in the NFL. Safety K'Von Wallace, a member of the Tigers' 2016 and 2018 national championship teams, signed with the New York Giants Tuesday, the club announced. The Giants are Wallace's fifth NFL team since he was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the fourth round (127th overall) of the 2020 NFL Draft. Wallace spent three seasons with the Eagles and played in all 17 games in 2022 before the club released him. He spent 2023 between the Arizona Cardinals and Tennessee Titans, a season in which he started 12 of 17 games and had an interception, six pass breakups, and one tackle for loss. Wallace spent last season with the Seattle Seahawks and played in nine games, making 15 tackles (nine solo) with one forced fumble before being placed on injured reserve. With the Giants, Wallace will reunite with former Tigers defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence, who played at Clemson from 2016-18 and was selected by New York in the first round (17th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. While at Clemson from 2016-19, Wallace played in 59 games for Dabo Swinney's Tigers and made 36 starts. He ended his college career with 156 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, two sacks, two forced fumbles, 21 pass breakups, and five interceptions. Wallace had a 66-yard interception return for a touchdown in Clemson's 52-10 win over Charlotte on Sept. 21, 2019. The Tigers started 14-0 that season before falling to LSU in the CFP title game. A year earlier, Wallace had five tackles in Clemson's 44-16 win over Alabama in the Tigers' national championship game romp at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, to cap their 15-0 season. Over the course of five NFL seasons, Wallace has played in 71 games and made 19 starts. He has 168 career tackles, two tackles for loss, one interception, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.
