
PJTAU gears up for 55th convocation ceremony
In a media briefing on Friday, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Aldas Janaiah announced that the ceremony will be presided over by the Chancellor and Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Verma. Dr. Mangilal Jat, Director General of ICAR and Secretary of DARE, will attend as the Chief Guest and deliver the convocation address.
During this convocation, a total of 830 degrees will be awarded for the academic year 2021–22. This includes 690 undergraduate degrees, 154 postgraduate degrees, and Ph.D. degrees, along with 30 Gold Medals to recognise academic excellence.
Prof. Janaiah mentioned that the university's first convocation took place in 1966, attended by then Agriculture Minister C. Subramaniam. Since then, notable figures, including Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi, PV Narasimha Rao, and Manmohan Singh, as well as leading scientists, have participated in past convocations, further enhancing the legacy of PJTAU.
He noted that upon taking charge, four convocations were pending, and with this ceremony, the first is now being fulfilled. Plans are in place to conduct the 56th and 57th convocations together in November, for which Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be invited, alongside a proposed grand Kisan Mela. The final pending convocation is scheduled for March–April 2026.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will launch the National Natural Farming Mission at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) in New Delhi on August 23, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan said on Thursday. The National Natural Farming Mission is aimed at improving soil health and restoring ecosystems, and reducing input costs to the farmer to achieve greater climate resilience. In November last year, the Modi government had approved the mission as a centrally sponsored scheme. The outlay for this scheme till the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26) is Rs 2,481 crore, including the Centre's share of Rs 1,584 crore and Rs 897 crore by the states. Chouhan said this year has seen a bumper crop, with the country setting new records in the production of wheat and paddy. There has also been a significant increase in the production of soybeans and groundnuts, he said. Live Events "The concern is now about Rabi crops, so a comprehensive action plan was discussed with the state agriculture ministers," he said. During the upcoming Rabi season, a 'Rabi Sammelan' will be organised in Delhi on September 15-16, and a 'Developed Agriculture Sankalp Abhiyan', which will be run as 'Vijay Parv', will be held in the country from October 3 to 18, he said. Chouhan said, "This time we will make a new record in the (production of) Rabi crops." The Union minister said that to achieve self-sufficiency in pulses and oilseeds, the states have been asked to intensify efforts. He said that during these events, an action plan for the agriculture sector will be made for the next five years, and suggestions will also be taken from progressive farmers and experts.

Prof. Kothapalli Jayashankar's Birth Anniversary Observed with Reverence at Jogulamba Gadwal Police Headquarters
Gadwal: The birth anniversary of (Acharya) Professor Kothapalli Jayashankar, the visionary leader who voiced the aspirations of the Telangana people and dedicated his life for the cause of a separate Telangana state, was solemnly observed today at the District Police Headquarters in Jogulamba Gadwal. Speaking on the occasion, Armed Forces Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Narender Rao hailed Prof. Jayashankar as a great intellectual and statesman who became the ideological backbone of the Telangana movement. He stated that Jayashankar was a tireless crusader who brought global attention to the need for Telangana statehood and became a symbol of inspiration for generations. As per the instructions of District Superintendent of Police (SP) SP T. Srinivas Rao, IPS, the Armed Forces DSP Narender Rao garlanded the portrait of Prof. Jayashankar and offered heartfelt floral tributes on behalf of the police department. Later, police officers and staff joined in paying their respects by placing flowers before the portrait of the late leader. In his address, the DSP further elaborated on the significant role played by Prof. Jayashankar in various Telangana movements — from the 1969 agitation to the 'Idli Sambar Go Back' campaign, the Non-Mulkhi Movement, and the later phase of the Telangana agitation. He highlighted how Prof. Jayashankar used public forums and speeches across the country to expose the injustices faced by Telangana, igniting public consciousness and giving direction to the struggle for statehood.
