Egypt aims to strengthen military production ties with India: Minister

Egypt - Mohamed Salah El-Din, Minister of State for Military Production, met with Suresh K. Reddy, India's ambassador to Cairo, to explore avenues for strengthening bilateral cooperation across various manufacturing sectors. The meeting took place at the ministry's headquarters in the Government District of the New Administrative Capital. Salah El-Din began by welcoming the Indian ambassador and his accompanying delegation, presenting an overview of the manufacturing, technical, and technological capabilities of the ministry's affiliated companies and units. The ministry supervises numerous industrial firms, along with a maintenance company, an information systems company, a Centre of Scientific and Technological Excellence, a construction company, and a training sector—making it a cornerstone of Egypt's national industry. He commended the significant advances in India's technological infrastructure in recent years, particularly the expansion of internet networks, enhanced data transfer capacity, and improved nationwide communication quality. In this context, he highlighted Tewya Technology, a ministry-affiliated company specialising in information systems, digital transformation, systems analysis and design, business development, and the support and maintenance of information systems for both governmental and private entities, as well as data collection and storage. The minister stressed the ministry's core mission of meeting the needs of the Armed Forces and police in terms of ammunition, weapons, and equipment. He added that surplus production capacity is utilised for manufacturing a wide range of civilian products and contributing to national and developmental projects. Salah underscored the ministry's commitment to adopting advanced technologies, diversifying both military and civilian product lines, and enhancing product quality and competitiveness in international markets. This, he noted, aligns with the directives of Egypt's political leadership to localise the latest global technologies and expand manufacturing capabilities across all sectors. Reaffirming the strong ties between Egypt and India, Salah expressed his keenness to build on this cooperation. He referred to existing partnerships, including collaboration between Helwan Diesel Engines Company (Factory 909 Military) and Ashok Leyland in diesel engine manufacturing, and between Helwan Company for Machinery and Equipment (Factory 999 Military), Bajaj of India, and a private-sector partner to produce the environmentally friendly 'Qute' vehicle. He emphasised that Egypt's economy offers promising investment opportunities, supported by large-scale national projects. Salah El-Din expressed his aspiration to establish further partnerships focused on transferring and localising advanced technologies, deepening local manufacturing, and exchanging expertise and technical information between the ministry's companies and their Indian counterparts in related fields. The meeting also included an invitation for Indian companies to participate in 'EDEX 2025,' to be held in Egypt from 1 to 4 December 2025 at the Egypt International Exhibition Centre under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces. For his part, Ambassador Reddy affirmed that Egypt is among the most promising investment destinations, thanks to its unique geographical position linking Africa, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, along with its energy resources and advanced infrastructure that support industrial growth. He noted that Indian companies view Egypt as an ideal investment hub, not only because of its location but also due to its skilled administrative workforce and strong commitment to developing local talent. Reddy praised Egypt's pivotal role in the Arab region and the Middle East, as well as its constructive engagement on regional and international issues. He said several Indian companies are interested in opening new horizons for cooperation with Egypt's military production companies, given their continuous development and efforts to attract more global investment. He emphasised the importance of facilitating technical delegation exchanges in the coming period to review modern technologies at production facilities and to define areas of mutual cooperation.

Egypt, Jordan to activate deals in health, industrial zones, SMEs

Egypt and Jordan have agreed to activate a number of previously signed memoranda of understanding (MoUs) in fields including health, industrial zones, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Egypt's planning minister said on Tuesday. The announcement came as the Egyptian Minister of Planning, Economic Development and International Cooperation, Rania Al-Mashat, reviewed the report of expert meetings held in Amman ahead of the 33rd session of the Egyptian-Jordanian Higher Joint Committee. The committee is co-chaired by the prime ministers of both countries, Mostafa Madbouly of Egypt and Jafar Hassan of Jordan. In her remarks, Al-Mashat said that since the last session of the committee, bilateral trade volume had increased by 33% in 2024 to exceed $1bn, reflecting the continuous understanding and commitment between the two countries. She added that both governments were keen to overcome any challenges to further strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations. The minister also highlighted achievements in the fields of electricity, gas, and oil, noting the continuation of the electrical grid connection between the two countries and ongoing studies to increase its capacity. In civil aviation, an air transport agreement and an MoU were signed to increase capacity. During the current session's preparatory meetings, the delegations reached numerous understandings on documents scheduled to be signed by the prime ministers, covering fields such as planning, investment, government procurement, and tourism. Al-Mashat also confirmed the agreement to activate a number of previously signed MoUs. These include agreements on the establishment and management of industrial zones, cooperation between financial regulatory authorities, and cooperation in free zones and development zones, as well as agreements between the countries' SME development agencies and health ministries. An agreement was also reached to hold technical committees and meetings in areas including specifications and standards, consumer protection, and land and maritime transport. The joint committee mechanism is one of the main tools through which Egypt seeks to strengthen economic, trade, and investment relations with other countries. The planning ministry oversees approximately 55 such committees.

Egypt approves establishment of new public free zones in 4 cities

Arab Finance: The Ministerial Group for Industrial Development has approved the establishment of new public free zones in 10th of Ramadan City, New October City, New Borg El Arab City, and New El Alamein City, introducing new regulations to protect local industry and ensure fair competition, as per a statement. The decision came during the group's 28th meeting, chaired by Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport. Under the new controls, factories in these zones will operate solely for export, with exceptions allowed only in limited cases upon the group's approval. Establishing factories under the private free zone system will require prior clearance, and production entering the local market will be restricted. Energy allocations will be charged at global prices without subsidies. The meeting also addressed complaints from manufacturers of automotive glass, billets, and sheet iron regarding customs distortions and unequal export support. El-Wazir directed the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade, in coordination with the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), to study measures to correct these issues and support domestic products. Ceramic manufacturers' requests to reschedule debts to the Ministry of Petroleum were discussed, with agreement to consider repayment plans at reasonable interest rates and to extend an existing initiative allowing government agencies to settle debts through procurement. The Consumer Protection Agency reported enforcement campaigns against warehouses selling imported used electrical appliances and violations involving energy efficiency labels. El-Wazir commended the agency's role in market regulation. The meeting reviewed a leasing proposal from China's Handsome Textiles for a tailoring factory at Misr Spinning and Weaving Company in El-Mahalla El-Kubra. El Wazir stressed ensuring rental terms reflect the asset's value while promoting public–private partnerships to boost the spinning and weaving sector. Also discussed was a financing proposal from the Ministry of Planning, in coordination with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and the Green Climate Fund, to support green transformation in industries such as mining, fertilizers, and cement. The program offers concessional financing and technical support to the private sector without financial burdens on the government, aiming to accelerate decarbonization and strengthen Egypt's position as a green energy partner for Europe. © 2025 All Rights Reserved Arab Finance For Information Technology Provided by SyndiGate Media Inc.
