Alabama, fellow SEC power among finalists for top 2026 edge rusher
According to a report from On3's Hayes Fawcett, one of the Alabama Crimson Tide's top defensive targets has now narrowed down his list of finalists to two.
That prospect is 2026 edge rusher Khamari Brooks, who will now reportedly decide between Alabama and Georgia. According to Fawcett as well, Brooks has also canceled his remaining official visits to both Texas and USC.
Per the 247Sports Composite recruiting rankings, Brooks is considered as the nation's No. 112 overall player in the 2026 class, as well as the No. 14 edge rusher nationally out of North Oconee High School in Georgia. The four-star prospect is also considered as the No. 13 overall player in the state of Georgia.
Alabama's 2026 recruiting class currently ranks No. 49 nationally according to the 247Sports Team Rankings with only six commitments. Of those six, three come from the state of Georgia, while two are edge rushers in four-star's Jamarion Matthews and Kamhariyan Johnson, the latter of which recently shut down his recruitment.

BREAKING: Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton
BREAKING: Oregon Ducks land commitment from 4-star WR Messiah Hampton The Oregon Ducks picked up a major win on the recruiting trail to kick off the weekend, landing 4-star wide receiver Messiah Hampton, the No. 1 ranked player from the state of New York in the 2026 class. Hampton is a massive win for Oregon's new wide receiver coach Ross Douglas, who developed a close relationship with the blue-chip player while coaching at Syracuse and continued that relationship when he came over to Eugene. The 247Sports Composite rates Hampton as the No. 102 player in the 2026 class, and the No. 11 WR. He stands at 6-foot-1, 180 pounds. He is scheduled to take his official visit to Oregon later this month. It doesn't come as a major surprise that Hampton committed to Oregon. The Ducks were battling the likes of Syracuse, the Ohio State Buckeyes, Penn State Nittany Lions, and Miami Hurricanes down the stretch, among a few others. Ultimately, it is the relationship with Douglas that proved to be the most significant factor in getting him to side with the Ducks. While he is verbally committed, this commitment is long from over, though. According to 247Sports' Brian Dohn, schools like Syracuse and Penn State are expected to stay in the mix for Hampton throughout the fall, so until the pen hits paper in December, this will be an important one to keep an eye on. 49ers quarterback explains one area he wants to improve in 2025
49ers quarterback explains one area he wants to improve in 2025 The San Francisco 49ers have been lucky to have starting quarterback Brock Purdy remain mostly healthy since taking over as the full-time starter. In fact, over the last two years, Purdy's only missed three games, which has put the team in the best situation to win. However, it's always important for NFL teams to have a competent backup quarterback, and the 49ers believe they got that this offseason when they signed Mac Jones to replace Joshua Dobbs and Brandon Allen in the position group. Jones, 26, played collegiately at Alabama from 2017-20, winning two national championships and earning All-SEC and All-American honors once before the New England Patriots took him in the first round (No. 15 overall) in the 2021 NFL draft. The Crimson Tide alum saw some success as a rookie, leading the team to the playoffs and making the Pro Bowl, but after offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels left to become the Las Vegas Raiders head coach, Jones fell apart. Over the next two years, his play dropped off significantly, and he was eventually benched for Bailey Zappe and then traded to the Jacksonville Jaguars for a sixth-round pick. Jones wasn't much better in his 10 games (seven starts) in Jacksonville, leading the team to a 2-5 record while completing 65.3% of his passes for 1,672 yards, eight touchdowns and eight interceptions. Now with San Francisco, Jones has had some up-and-down practice sessions, according to those in attendance, but he's working on one specific trait this offseason. 'Sometimes, when you watch my film, maybe it wasn't a full commitment throw,' Jones said (via San Francisco Chronicle's Noah Furtado). 'I want to get better at that, and I have when I've been out there. That's the whole point of football is to try those throws, learn from them, and then when you get to the game, you can say, 'Hey, I can do this,' or, 'I'm going to check this one down.' 'I learned the hard way.' Jones entered the NFL as the quarterback with the highest floor in his draft class, which should make him a strong backup, and if he can prove that he has confidence in himself and can make the right decisions, he'll be just that. If not, Jones might not see the end of the two-year, $7 million contract the he signed back in March. More 49ers: 49ers have intriguing plan for stud defensive lineman in 2025

Michigan hosts transfer QB Jake Garcia to strengthen its depleted quarterback room
Michigan hosts transfer QB Jake Garcia to strengthen its depleted quarterback room Michigan football wants to do as much as it can to ensure that it has as deep a quarterback room as possible. Of course, the top of the chain is high, with five-star and former No. 1 overall recruit Bryce Underwood leading the charge, but the Wolverines also want to ensure that they have experience on the roster. Earlier in the offseason, the maize and blue did get some experience, going out and getting Fresno State transfer quarterback Mikey Keene. But with an injury during spring ball, Michigan isn't holding fast with what it has. After all, Davis Warren will take some time to recover from a lower leg injury he sustained in the ReliaQuest Bowl, Alex Orji transferred out, and Jadyn Davis didn't appear ready to lead the team in the spring game. The Wolverines hosted a transfer quarterback According to 247Sports' Matt Zenitz, former East Carolina quarterback Jake Garcia was on campus this week, giving Michigan an opportunity to potentially add to a room that features Underwood, Keene, Warren (injured), Davis, and freshman Chase Herbstreit. Garcia started his career at Miami before transferring to Missouri, where he didn't accumulate any stats. He was at ECU for two years, but lost his job midseason to former Michigan State quarterback Katin Houser. Garcia as a recruit and college player Part of the 2021 class, Garcia has never quite lived up to his recruiting ranking. A 6-foot-3, 195-pound quarterback as a recruit from Whittier (Calif.) Grayson, Garcia was a high-end QB in the class, ranked No. 48 overall according to the 247Sports Composite (he was No. 23 player according to ESPN) and the eighth-best quarterback in the cycle (by comparison, in the same class, J.J. McCarthy was No. 25 overall and the fifth-best quarterback). Here are his stats per year: 2021 : 1 game, 11-for-14 (78.6%), 147 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT (Miami Hurricanes) : 1 game, 11-for-14 (78.6%), 147 yards, 2 TD, 0 INT (Miami Hurricanes) 2022 : 8 games, 68-for-115 (59.1%), 803 yards, 5 TD, 4 INT (Miami Hurricanes) : 8 games, 68-for-115 (59.1%), 803 yards, 5 TD, 4 INT (Miami Hurricanes) 2024: 6 games, 109-for-181 (60.2%), 1,426 yards, 8 TD, 12 INT (East Carolina Pirates) Now entering his fifth year, Garcia does also have a daughter, so he has more consideration than simply following his dreams of achieving quarterback play at a high level.
