NDTV07-08-2025
Is Sanju Samson on his way out from Rajasthan Royals? The RR captain did not play all the matches in the IPL 2025 after an injury. Even after he recovered, there were reports that he was not getting involved in the team meetings. After the IPL 2025 ended, were Rajasthan Royals missed out on a playoff spot, reports suggested that Samson was on his way out from the franchise with whom he has been associated since 2015. Now a report in Cricbuzz has claimed that the differences between the two parties is so severed that the cricketer's family is openly saying that Samson does not want to continue with RR.
"Serious differences have cropped up between Sanju Samson and the Royals management - so much so that the designated captain has formally requested to be traded or released into the auction," the report stated.
"Members of Samson's family openly say that he no longer wishes to continue with the Royals. Some current IPL and international players close to him also indicate that his relationship with the franchise has not exactly been the way it used to be."
The report went on to say that some franchises have shown interest in Samson but have not put an offer on the table that is acceptable to RR. Chennai Super Kings, whose name has been associated with Samson, is unwilling to release any player for a trade-off. On top of that, according to IPL rules, the decision to trade or release a player rests with the franchise. The player can't decide on his own to leave a team. Technically, contractually and legally, Samson is a RR player till 2027. "CSK officials say their only option may be to try their luck in the auction, if at all," the report further said.
Sanju Samson first came into limelight in the 2013 IPL. The wicketkeeper-batter from Kerala was groomed by Rahul Dravid. Sanju scored 342 runs in IPL 2019 and then followed it up with 375 runs in the IPL 2020. He was name RR captain in 2021.

'We've matured. Things are different now': Bhuvneshwar Kumar on how Virat Kohli has changed over the years

Virat Kohli and Bhuvneshwar Kumar (PTI Photo) NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and India pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has seen plenty of change in Virat Kohli — both as a cricketer and as a person. Fresh from playing a pivotal role in RCB's historic IPL 2025 triumph, the 35-year-old opened up on how his conversations with the star batter have shifted from playful banter to family matters. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW! Speaking on the podcast Talk with Manvendra, Bhuvneshwar revealed that the bond between him and Kohli has matured with time. Poll Do you believe that personal relationships affect team performance? Yes, they enhance performance No, they do not matter It depends on the individuals 'Things are different now. When we meet these days, we talk more about family or off-the-ground matters because everyone has a family now. We talk about how we are doing in life other than cricket. Earlier, when we weren't married and were younger, it was more about the usual fun and jokes boys have. So that's where the change has come,' Bhuvneshwar said. On the field, however, he insisted professionalism remains the driving force. 'We never really need that bond to perform well. If RCB has picked me, Virat, or any other player, they want us to perform regardless of friendship. Everyone knows what they have to do on the ground. But off the ground, of course, things have changed. We've matured, we've grown older, so now the conversations are different,' he added. Bhuvneshwar enjoyed a strong season, taking 17 wickets in 14 matches, while Kohli amassed 657 runs in 15 innings. The pacer also lauded Rajat Patidar 's leadership during RCB's title-winning run. 'The best part was that since it was such an experienced team, Rajat didn't have to do much. Where leadership was needed, he took decisions without hesitation. That's a quality — knowing when to step in and when to let things be,' Bhuvneshwar said. He credited RCB's balanced contributions for breaking their 18-year title drought. 'This time, the biggest difference was that all players in the XI won matches at different times, in different situations. You can't win a big tournament relying on just one or two players. Bowlers stepped up in some games, batters in others. In every stage, a new player emerged to win it for us,' he concluded. Catch Rani Rampal's inspiring story on Game On, Episode 4. Watch Here!

Samson dilemma could hinder Shubman Gill's Asia Cup return: 'Would it be fair to push Sanju...?'

Despite his heroics on debut as Test captain and a record-breaking tour of England, Shubman Gill — touted by experts as India's next all-format mainstay — might not even find a place in the T20I side for the Asia Cup. A fresh report claims his case could be hindered by Sanju Samson, who has emerged as a key opener in the format. Will Shubman Gill make India's Asia Cup squad? According to a report in RevSportz, sources close to the development outlined Samson's brilliance in the format, where he scored three centuries in the last 10 T20Is for India, and hence, "it wouldn't be fair to push him down the order and accommodate Gill." The report further highlighted that the "set" line-up also comprises Abhishek Sharma, the world's number-one T20 batter, and Tilak Varma, the second-ranked batter. Moreover, under head coach Gautam Gambhir and captain Suryakumar Yadav, the team has sought continuity — something even Gill acknowledged during a press conference in England. The Asia Cup will serve as a dress rehearsal for next year's home T20 World Cup, making it unlikely for India to disrupt that continuity after months of preparation and risk creating uncertainty in the dressing room. Despite the dilemma, Gill has an impressive record in T20Is for India, scoring 578 runs in 21 matches at a strike rate of 139.27, including three fifties and a century. This was one of the reasons he was named Suryakumar's deputy in the format in July last year, when India took the first step towards a new direction after Gambhir's appointment as head coach. However, with Gill prioritising the longer formats ahead of the Australia tour and the Champions Trophy, he did not play any T20Is after the tour of Sri Lanka in July 2024, following which Axar Patel was named vice-captain. Not to forget, Gill also had a phenomenal IPL 2025 season, clobbering 650 runs in 15 matches at a strike rate of 155.88, including six fifties. India are likely to announce the squad next week.

Reason Behind Sanju Samson's Fallout With Rajasthan Royals Management: "Decision To..."

Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson is all but confirmed to leave the franchise, according to multiple reports. Samson, who has been with RR for 11 seasons, has requested the franchise to either trade him or let him enter the IPL mini auction. Samson and RR have had plenty of differences of late, with the franchise owner Manoj Badale in direct talks with other franchises over a possible trade for the player. According to a report in Cricbuzz, one of the major reason's behind Samson's fallout with RR was their decision to release former England captain Jos Buttler. "As previously reported here, Samson has made a formal request to the Royals management stating that he is seeking a new direction. There have apparently been many issues of differences between RR and Samson, one of which was the management's decision to release Jos Buttler," the report said. Earlier this year, Samson had indirectly criticised the management's desicion of not retaining Buttler, who spent seven seasons at the helm before being released before the mega auction last year. "Letting him go has been one of the most challenging decisions for me. During the England series, I told him over dinner that I was still not over it. If I could change one thing in the IPL, I would change the rule of releasing players every three years," Samson had told Star Sports before last IPL season. Samson, who has been part of the franchise for the past 11 years, has urged RR to either release him or let him enter the bidding war ahead of the upcoming auction. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have reportedly shown their interest over a possible trade with RR for Samson. While CSK, for weeks, have appeared to be the front runners in the race, the chances of Samson joining the five-time champions are a bit slim now. RR had asked CSK for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad in exchange for Samson. However, CSK have already rejected his request. "With the letters sent directly to franchise owners, details have largely stayed under wraps. However, it is learnt that a potential trade with the Chennai Super Kings - widely speculated in recent days - could be a long shot, as the Royals are believed to have asked for either Ravindra Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad, both deal-breaking terms that the Super Kings are not ready to entertain," the report said.
