'Back in love': MotoGP champion Martin stays with Aprilia
"In life we have to take some decisions and now the decision is to stay here in Aprilia for one more season," Martin said at a press conference ahead of the Grand Prix of Czechia.
The 27-year-old Spaniard has been at odds with Italian manufacturer Aprilia after initially saying he intended to activate a release clause in his contract at the end of the season.
Martin is returning to competition after being sidelined for nearly four months by injuries.
After missing the first three races of the season following two pre-season crashes, he started in Qatar in April but crashed on lap 14, suffering injuries including 11 broken ribs.
He said he started to have doubts about his plan to quit while recovering in hospital and not knowing if he would race again.
"From that point I had to to fight for what I thought was the best for me... I'm not an idiot and I see that we together have a lot of potential. We can do really a lot and hopefully I am really prepared for what's coming," Martin added.
He said he could understand that Aprilia were fighting "for their rights" and appreciated how the team "helped me to be in a safe place".
'HAPPY TO BE HERE'
"I think in relationships it's like a roller coaster. You can get in love, then you have some fights, but finally if you like the other person at the end of the day you will work hard to stay together and to fight for your targets," he said.
"For sure we had a big fight with Aprilia, but now is the time to start to build together, because... we want to win in the future.
"So this is the important thing and I think it's possible to get back in love, let's say," Martin added.
Martin admitted he would rather be in the paddock than telling journalists about the move, but he said he wanted to sort the affair out before he hits the track.
He declined to speculate on his form ahead of the Czech GP in Brno as he has managed to compete in just a single race in nine months.
"I have missed 6,000 kilometres so I have to take my patience. I need to take time... I'm happy to be here, I'm happy that I'm strong to get back to the bike," Martin added.
He said there was nothing to apologise for to Aprilia, but admitted he was grateful to the team.
"Maybe in the future, if we win together, I will say thanks to (Aprilia sports director) Massimo (Rivola) for all they did to keep me here."

Barca's planned Camp Nou return in August scrapped
BARCELONA - Barcelona abandoned their plan to return to their Camp Nou home in August on Friday, pushing the stadium's re-opening back further. The Catalan giants had planned to play a friendly match on August 10 as the first game in their stadium after two years of construction work, but blamed difficulty in obtaining a license to partially open the stadium for their decision. "Barcelona informs that the first match back at the Spotify Camp Nou has been suspended," said the club in a statement. "Because of the magnitude of the work done it was impossible to meet all the requirements demanded by the regulations governing the granting of the first occupancy license, despite the club's willingness to open Spotify Camp Nou in sections." The first match at the Camp Nou is now set to be the La Liga game against Valencia on September 13 or 14, with Barca's first three league matches away from home. However Barcelona did not state whether they can guarantee they will be able to open the stadium for the fixture, or potentially a home Champions League tie before then. Barca said the friendly they had planned, reported to be against Italian side Como, will take place instead at the Johan Cruyff stadium beside their training ground. Barcelona have played at the Olympic Stadium on the city's Montjuic hill over the past two seasons during the development at the Camp Nou. The club initially planned to return to the Camp Nou in November 2024 to mark the club's 125th anniversary but the stadium opening has been repeatedly delayed. Capacity at the Camp Nou will be around 60,000 until works are eventually completed, planned to be next summer, with the stadium expanded to 105,000 seats. Barcelona are estimated to be paying 1.5 billion euros ($1.75 billion) for the Camp Nou rebuild project.

Curious case of Roos and Bok team: Rassie explains omission for Georgia Test
Evan Roos has once again been left out of a Springbok team when there appeared to be an opportunity for him to start at No 8 against Georgia. Springbok coach Rassie Erasmus was this week once again forced to explain his omission of Evan Roos from a Bok matchday-23, this time to face Georgia in a one-off Test at the Mbombela Stadium on Saturday evening. Roos has had a difficult time in the Springbok setup since making his debut in 2022, only playing eight times, and frequently finding himself out in the cold, but Erasmus claimed that was not the case and that they still had plans to include the Stormers No 8 in the future. With Jasper Wiese suspended for the next four games, and players such as Elrigh Louw and Ben-Jason Dixon out injured, it seemed like Georgia would be the perfect game to give Roos, a specialist eighthman, a proper run. Surprise pick Instead, utility forward Cobus Wiese, who made his Bok debut off the bench at lock against Italy in Gqeberha last weekend, was the surprise pick at No 8, and experienced loose forward Kwagga Smith, who will be covering all three loose forward positions, which Roos can do as well, is included on the bench That led to the Bok head coach having to defend his decision at this week's team announcement press conference. 'Evan has picked up eight Test caps now with us. He has trained very well with us, but we also want to make sure of our depth. We have lost Elrigh, Ben-Jason, and Jasper is now out again with a ban. We have given Evan chances and he has been training with us, and everyone can see that,' said Erasmus. 'But we also want to see how a guy like Cobus can do there because we feel he has the potential to play there. It is a long season and after four matches the door is not closed for anybody but we would like to see how Cobus does. 'We really have a good feeling about him as another lineout option but Evan is definitely still in the mix, without a doubt.' Erasmus tried to expand, explaining the amount of depth in the Bok squad, and how various players are slotting in to get more game time, but most of the players he mentioned get other chances over the whole season. Limited game time This while Roos may only get the 24 minutes he did in the second Italy Test last weekend, as Jean-Luc du Preez started against the Barbarians, and Wiese started both Italian Tests, while Smith was on the bench for the first two games. 'We try to mix it up, we never drop somebody in our team. We rotate. I don't know if people want to believe that or not. But if we get 15 or 20 caps into Evan before the next World Cup cycle, and we get 10 or 12 to Cobus Wiese,' explained Erasmus. 'We are trying to see how it goes if Jesse (Kriel) is replaced by Canan (Moodie). We don't really see Jesse as No 1, Canan as No 2 and Ethan (Hooker) as No 3. Lukhanyo (Am) also has to return. 'We would like to know that Canan can move to wing, Ethan can move to wing, Jesse can move to the wing, Sacha (Feinberg-Mngomezulu) can move to 12, or 15, Manie (Libbok) can go to 15 and Handre (Pollard) can go to 12. 'The more we work together the better it is. We see it as guys getting chances, trying out combinations and doing it under pressure. And the more we try out new combinations and guys can swop in and out, we think we will become a better team.'
