All four Lakers Emirates NBA Cup group play games have been announced
It has been announced that the Los Angeles Lakers will start group play with a road game versus the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, Oct. 31. On Friday, Nov. 14, they will visit the New Orleans Pelicans, and they will host the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks on Nov. 25 and Nov. 28, respectively.
In particular, the contests against the Clippers and Mavericks will be riveting. The Clippers, like the Lakers, have made a number of notable offseason additions, including three-time All-Star guard Bradley Beal and future Hall of Fame point guard Chris Paul.
The game against the Mavericks, of course, will have Luka Doncic taking on his former team, as well as former Lakers championship teammates LeBron James and Anthony Davis facing off.
This year, the Lakers are in West Group B as far as group play. The knockout rounds will begin on Dec. 9, and the semifinal and final rounds will take place in Las Vegas on Dec. 13 and Dec. 16, respectively.

The Lakers will fittingly honor Riley against their long-time rival, the Boston Celtics. Riley coached the Lakers from from 1981 to 1990 during the team's "Showtime" era and won four NBA championships (1982, 1985, 1987, 1988). He led the Lakers through one of the most dynamic eras for any team in NBA history. With Johnson and Abdul-Jabbar leading an exciting roster with a groundbreaking fast-break offense, the Lakers went 533-194 (.733) in Riley's tenure and added 102 playoff victories over nine seasons. The Lakers won at least 50 games in each of his nine seasons as coach and they won at least 60 games in five straight seasons. He was named NBA Coach of the Year with the Lakers in 1989-90. He played for Los Angeles from 1970 to 1975, and was a team broadcaster before becoming Paul Westhead's assistant in 1979. Riley was part of the 1971=72 team that won a league-record 33 straight games and won the NBA championship. ADVERTISEMENT The 80-year-old Riley also coached the New York Knicks and the Miami Heat. He won another championship as coach with the Heat in 2006 and now serves as their team president. Just last season, the Heat named the court in their downtown arena after Riley in a ceremony attended by many of his former players. Riley will become the eighth Lakers luminary to be honored with a statue in Star Plaza, which has become a popular tourist attraction for fans of the globally popular franchise. After spending the 2024-25 NBA season with the Dallas Mavericks, 25-year-old forward Kessler Edwards has agreed to a training camp contract with the Denver Nuggets. This deal was first reported by Michael Scotto of HoopsHype. Last season, Edwards played 40 games, averaging 4.2 points and 2.9 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game. He shot 49.6 percent from the floor and 40.7 percent from 3-point range, both of which were the best averages of his young career. Edwards was drafted 44th overall in 2021 by the Brooklyn Nets and spent the first two seasons of his career in New York City. He was then a member of the Sacramento Kings before spending the entire 2024-25 season with Dallas. This has been an eventful offseason for the Nuggets. Aside from trading Michael Porter Jr. and a future first-round pick to the Nets for Cam Johnson, the Nuggets also revamped their roster with the addition of veterans like Jonas Valanciunas, Bruce Brown, and Tim Hardaway Jr. DaRon Holmes II, Denver's first-round pick from the 2024 NBA Draft, will also be making his debut this year after suffering an Achilles injury at the start of Summer League last season. The organization remains very high on the recent first-round pick as an impactful talent in the frontcourt next to three-time MVP Nikola Jokic. The Nuggets currently have 14 players under contract, which is why they will take a look at Edwards and see if he can fit in during training camp. All three of the team's two-way roster spots are currently occupied by Curtis Jones, Tamar Bates, and Spencer Jones. Although he has bounced around between three different teams, Edwards has always been viewed as a potential 3-and-D type of player on the wing given his versatility. Denver is always seeking more depth on the wing and reliable, defensive-minded players who can provide extra production behind Aaron Gordon at the power forward position. Perhaps Edwards will turn out to be a diamond in the rough for the Nuggets during training camp, as his Exhibit 10 contract can easily turn into a standard, one-year deal. The Nuggets went 50-32 last season, marking the first time this franchise has won at least 50 games in three consecutive seasons since they achieved this feat in four years from 2008-11. Ultimately, Denver was unable to defeat the Oklahoma City Thunder in seven games during their Western Conference semifinal series.

Flagg hails from Maine, prompting some fans to give him the nickname 'The Maine Event,' and recently, a farmer from Maine paid homage to Flagg with an epic corn maze that was designed to resemble the number one overall pick shooting the basketball, per the Mavs' account on X, formerly Twitter. In many ways, Flagg is responsible for putting his home state on the map in terms of basketball–Maine is not exactly known as a sports hub, and even though Flagg eventually transferred out of the state and down to Florida to finish out his high school career against better competition, he's still frequently shown love to his home state during his rise to fame. A strange situation for the Mavericks It's not often that a number one overall pick walks into a situation where three future Hall of Famers are already on the roster (in this case, Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and Klay Thompson). However, that's exactly the situation that Cooper Flagg finds himself in ahead of the upcoming 2025-26 NBA season. Conspiracy theorists were abuzz when the Mavericks landed the number one overall pick less than four months after trading Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers in what was widely regarded as the worst transaction in NBA history. However, for Mavericks fans, the addition of Flagg figures to provide some sort of silver lining amid what was the darkest period in their franchise's history. At this point, it's hard to envision the Mavericks competing for much considering the state of their guard rotation with Irving sidelined due to an ACL injury, but once Kyrie returns, Dallas could have one of the deepest rosters in the NBA. The Mavericks will get their season underway on October 22 against the San Antonio Spurs.
