June 18 (UPI) -- The food world is paying tribute to late chef and Food Network star Anne Burrell.
Top Chef alum Carla Hall, former Chopped and MasterChef judge Aaron Sanchez, Food Network television personality Aarti Sequeira, and Cake Boss' Buddy Valastro were among those who took to Instagram to memorialize Burrell, who died Tuesday at age 55.
"I absolutely loved working with Anne on Worst Cooks in America," Hall wrote.
"She was a fierce chief and instructor -- rocking her custom skirts, mismatched socks and that unforgettable big smile," she continued. "Anne, you brought so much heart and heat to every kitchen. You will be missed."
Sequeira also wrote about Burrell's mentorship in her tribute.
"Anne was a tough but invested teacher, who thought enough of you to tell you the truth without watering it down. I always appreciated that she cared enough about a newbie to the game to give it to her straight. Ever since, she always greeted me with warmth, joy and that trademark big laugh. My heart would beat faster because I was a huge fan of her cooking show, the way she really thought of ways to teach cooking techniques," she said.
Sanchez said he is "heartbroken" over Burrell's death.
"Her spirit, her fire, her talent, her leadership, her laugh... unforgettable," he wrote. "So much respect and love for this amazing woman."
Valastro wrote that Burrell's "passion, energy and love for food lit up every kitchen."
"You were a true force and a beautiful soul," he added. "Rest in peace, Chef. We'll miss you dearly."
"Devastated," Sunny Anderson captioned a photograph of herself with Burrell.
Gigi Hadid, who briefly worked with Burrell said that she, too, is "heartbroken."
"As a longtime fan, getting to share this day with her was a dream come true," she wrote in her Instagram stories with a photograph. "Beat Bobby. Hang. Eat. I wish we could have done it again. She was awesome. Rest in peace legend."

Willie Geist compares daughter leaving for college to driving car with 3 wheels
Willie Geist is excited for his daughter's latest milestone — despite the terror involved. The 50-year-old host of 'Sunday Today' took to a TODAY Father's Day celebration on June 13 to open up about the mixed emotions he's feeling as his 18-year-old daughter, Lucie Joy, graduates high school. And that, of course, means getting used to being a family of three at home, rather than a family of four. 'We just had a high school graduation a few days ago for Lucie Geist,' Geist said to a panel of Today colleagues that included Craig Melvin, Al Roker, Carson Daly and Peter Alexander. 'All the best stuff is still coming,' Geist added. Geist goes on to admit that he and his wife, Christina, have 'done the best we can' with their daughter and are thrilled for her as she embarks on this next chapter of her life. 'It's a strange mix of genuine excitement for her because you know what's ahead, and then moments where you're driving around and the bottom drops out of your stomach,' he explained. 'And you go, 'I can't believe that we've gotten her to this point,' he added. Of course, Lucie leaving the nest comes at a price for Geist — like driving a car with three wheels. 'We're a family of four. Somebody's taken a tire off the car and you've got to figure out how to drive the car on three wheels, you know?' he told his colleagues. Peter Alexander was quick to offer some perspective on how special of a time this can be for his second child, who will be getting much more attention once Lucie leaves. 'I don't know how he feels about that, but we're excited about it,' Geist joked of George. Willie and Christina Geist first met in 6th grade and have been married since 2003. Geist shared the couple's origin story in an Instagram tribute for his wife's 50th birthday. 'She was 11 when she caught my eye on the first day of Mr. Kaplan's 6th Grade homeroom class. A gawky boy in Jams and Chuck Taylors can dream… but not this big,' he wrote. Now more than two decades later, the couple share two kids — daughter Lucie, born in 2007, and son George, born in 2009. While talking about his daughter's recent graduation, Geist clarified that Lucie will be moving several hours away when she goes off to college. Some parents might use that as a reason to track their child's location remotely — but not Geist. In fact, Geist admitted that he and his wife will be doing away with location-tracking software — despite currently using it — once their daughter leaves. Geist argued that tracking his daughter's location would cause more trouble than reassurance. His comments came just a few days after he first opened up about his daughter graduating while co-hosting 'Today with Jenna & Friends' with Jenna Bush Hager. 'As any parent who has been through this — or maybe you're going through it right now — knows, the excitement at times becomes terror,' he said on June 10. Geist admitted that the week leading up to her graduation was so full of activities that her big milestone didn't hit him until he saw her walking across the stage. 'She was on stage speaking, which was an amazing thrill, and I think that's when it really hit me and Christina,' Geist shared. 'All of a sudden, she's ready to go,' he added. 'And you hope you've instilled in her all the values and the habits and the things she'll need to go out in the world.'

U.S. volleyball star Erik Shoji comes out as queer
Erik Shoji has spent a decade spiking balls on the world's biggest stages for the US men's volleyball team, and now he's sharing something even more personal. In a video posted to both his Instagram and TikTok pages, the 35-year-old libero sat beside his snoozing labradoodle and said plainly, 'I'm here to tell the world today that I am queer.' Advertisement Shoji admitted the moment felt 'scary, but freeing at the same time,' noting that self-acceptance took longer than he expected. 'I'm stronger, more confident, and more sure of myself than I've ever been,' he added, eyes shining. 'Given who I am and the platform that I have, this is my moment, and I'm so excited to move forward after this.' The Hawai'i native has captained the U.S. men's national team since 2025, but has racked up Olympic bronze medals in Rio 2016 and Paris 2024, plus two FIVB World Cup golds. Off-court, he's a TikTok influencer known for wholesome roommate bits and behind-the-scenes vlogs from pro stints in Germany, Russia, Italy, and, most recently, Poland's powerhouse ZAKSA. Support for his announcement poured in within minutes. USA Volleyball commented, 'Proud of you, Erik… we're honored to stand with you, always.' Fellow Olympian Merrick McHenry, himself an out gay athlete, wrote, 'Thank you for being you!' Volleyball Nations League, Mizuno, and a roster of international stars echoed the love. Outside of McHenry, Shoji also joins the ranks of Kyle Friend, Tim Brewster, and Justin Lui as one of the out professional gay volleyball players. Advertisement Shoji hopes the news shows younger players they can thrive without hiding. 'Moving forward means feeling completely free and myself,' he said. 'I want my life to feel like I have one life, and saying this brings it all together.' That next chapter starts on June 25, when the U.S. hosts China in Chicago's VNL leg, Shoji's first match since coming out. Expect the crowd to roar a little louder when No. 22 jogs onto the court as a world-class defender, now playing wide open.

The Slutty Little Glasses Trend Is Taking Over Summer
When the trailer was released for Jonathan Bailey's new movie, Jurassic World Rebirth, fans could not stop talking about his character's appearance, particularly the frames sitting upon his face. He kept the conversation going when he wore these shades on Tuesday at the world premiere of the sci-fi action film at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square in London, England. Well, it turns out there's a trendy name for this eyewear: slutty little glasses. Yep, you read that right. During a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight at the premiere, Jonathan was asked, "What do you think of fans' reactions to your slutty little glasses?" Jonathan responded, "Slutty little glasses? Are you allowed to say the 'S' word?" "Listen, Blakely Thornton came up with that. So, copyright, where copyright is due." Jonathan was referring to Blakely, the internet personality who describes himself as a "pop culture anthropologist." He coined the term "sluttly little glasses" and even created an Instagram page dedicated to sharing images and videos of men wearing them. The term typically (but not exclusively) refers to trendy thin, wire-frame glasses that give the person wearing them personality. The social media page was filled with a range of male heartthrobs like Pedro Pascal, Ryan Coogler, Chris Evans, Keith Powers, Eric Dane, Jonathan, of course, and more. "I'm thrilled that people having a hormonal explosion linked to optical support," Jonathan continued. "But, I think, yeah, glasses can go a long way. So, let's have the summer of slutty little glasses." But that wasn't the only thing he was hoping to see more of this season. Jonathan is also a big supporter of flip-flops and hats, noting he wears "a cap every day of the year." "I believe feeling confident, feeling cool, is about wearing what you love. I'll just wear my little glasses." Amen! I'm a big fan of the glasses trend, whether you wear them out of necessity or fashion. Others seem to be onboard with the slutty little glasses movement too: For more of Jonathan, you can watch his full Entertainment Tonight interview below. You can also find him and the rest of the cast in Jurassic World Rebirth when it hits theaters on July 2. What are your thoughts on this? Share them with me in the comments!
