Police detain 8 in crackdown on ketum trade across 3 states
Six of them were arrested in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur following two raids on April 24 and May 6, conducted by the General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade as part of 'Op Taring Mitra'.
In a statement today, Central Brigade commander SAC Hakemal Hawari confirmed that authorities seized ketum leaves, processed ketum water, equipment for processing and several vehicles, with a total estimated value of RM657,400.
In a separate raid in Penang, two 23-year-old men were arrested today at a house in Batu Maung, where police recovered 85kg of ketum leaves and 1,500 packets of ketum water worth RM9,300.
Barat Daya police chief ACP Sazalee Adam, the suspects had been renting the property for six months to produce and sell the ketum water at RM5 per packet.
Both suspects are being remanded and the case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, he said.

KOTA BHARU: The 8th Battalion of the General Operations Force (GOF) detained 20 illegal immigrants, including two suspected tekong, in three separate raids under Op Taring Wawasan Kelantan. 'The driver possessed a valid passport, but the other five had expired passports and no valid entry stamp,' said Nik Ros Azhan. About 40 minutes later, five more Pakistani men were detained, including a driver with an expired passport. The four passengers lacked valid entry stamps, leading to their arrest. Both drivers, aged 31 and 32, were held under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007. The 11 passengers were detained under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1059/63. In the third raid at 6.45 am on Thursday, nine Myanmar nationals were detained in Kampung Kubang Pak Hitam, Pasir Mas. The group consisted of seven men and two women without valid identification documents. They were taken to the Pasir Mas Police Headquarters for further investigation under the same laws. - Bernama

Cops detain 20 illegal immigrants in Kelantan
KOTA BARU: The General Operations Force (GOF) detained 20 illegal immigrants in three separate raids through Ops Taring Wawasan Kelantan on Wednesday (Aug 13) and Thursday. Southeast Brigade GOF commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Ab Hamid said that the first two raids were conducted in Machang by the 8th Battalion on Wednesday, where they detained 11 illegal immigrants from Pakistan, including two Pakistani men believed to be the leaders. He added that in the first raid, conducted on the Machang-Kuala Krai Bypass Highway at 9.30pm, they detained a vehicle carrying six Pakistani men. "The driver possessed a valid passport, but the other five had expired passports and no valid entry stamp. "About 40 minutes later, we detained five Pakistani men, including the driver with an expired passport, while the four passengers had no valid entry stamp," he said in a statement on Friday. Nik Roshan Azhan said both drivers, aged 31 and 32, were detained under Section 26J of the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants Act (ATIPSOM) 2007 while all 11 passengers were held under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1059/63. In the third raid at 6.45am on Thursday, the GOF detained nine migrants in a forest near Kampung Kubang Pak Hitam, Pasir Mas. GOF detains 17 undocumented Myanmar migrants in Kelantan, seize drugs worth RM153,000
KOTA BARU: Seventeen undocumented migrants were detained by the General Operations Force (GOF) in three separate operations here and in Tumpat on Monday and Tuesday. GOF Southeast Brigade commander Datuk Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abd Hamid said the 17, all from Myanmar, comprised nine women and eight men. He said the operations also led to the seizure of 250g of dried cannabis, 3.2kg of cannabis buds, and a car used to transport the migrants, with the total value estimated at RM153,000. "Two of the operations were conducted in Kota Baru, while the third took place in Pengkalan Kubor, Tumpat. "Eight of the 17 undocumented migrants were nabbed in an area near Pohon Tar, close to Pengkalan Kubor, on Monday. During this operation, GOF personnel also seized the drugs and the car," he said. He added that the remaining nine migrants were arrested in two separate operations at Kampung Kedai Buluh and Kampung Che Latiff on Tuesday. Preliminary investigations revealed that the migrants had entered Kelantan via several illegal jetties along the border. "The 17 people, including a tekong darat (a local term for those who harbour or smuggle undocumented migrants), are being held for further investigation," he added.
