Sadhguru seeks court protection against AI-driven misuse of his identity

New Delhi [India], May 30 (ANI): Spiritual leader Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev has approached the Delhi High Court, seeking protection of his personality rights against unauthorised use of his name and image by various websites employing artificial intelligence.
During the hearing before the bench of Justice Saurabh Benarjee, it was argued that his identity was being exploited to promote products fraudulently, prompting requests for takedown orders.
'My name is being exploited to sell products--one such example is the book Garbh Yatra (on pregnancy), which features my image on its cover. People are blindly trusting these offerings because of my reputation, making this a clear case of fraud. These entities are leveraging AI to deceive the public,' he argued.
The counsel representing Google submitted that affected parties must report specific URLs to intermediaries before any action can be taken.
After a brief hearing, the bench stated that it would issue an interim order on the matter soon.
In March this year, the Delhi High Court directed the removal of videos and content published by a YouTuber against spiritual leader Sadhguru's Isha Foundation from online platforms.
While issuing the order, the court emphasised that reputation is an essential aspect of an individual's dignity. It also underscored the need to balance freedom of speech and expression with the right to reputation. (ANI)

After Kailash Darshan, on the return journey, the group will depart from China and stay in Bundi for one night, Chaukori for one night, and Almora for one night, and they will reach Delhi. Thus, during the journey, each group will travel for a total of 22 days. The release noted that the health check-up of all the travellers will be done first in Delhi, and on reaching Gunji (Pithoragarh), the health check-up will be done with the help of the ITBP. "We condemn terrorism in strongest terms": Chief of Peace Committee, Security Council of the African Union Billy Winter
Addis Ababa [Ethiopia], May 31 (ANI): The Chief of Peace Committee, Security Council of the African Union, Billy Winter, expressed support for India's stance against terrorism. He observed that India and the African Union both have been dealing with the menace of terrorism and noted that in discussions with the all-party delegation, they (AU) shared their experiences and commitment to work together to eliminate terrorism. Speaking to ANI, Billy Winter said, 'We are with India in these trying moments. We, as the African Union Commission, condemn terrorism in the strongest terms, whether on the African continent, globally, or on the Indian side. However, we have shared experiences. As far as the African Union, we have also had this menace of terrorism across a number of member states. So our experience and how we respond to this, we have discussed with the high-level multi-party delegation from India, and they have also shared their experiences and committed to jointly working together to eliminate this menace once and for all.' In his remarks, he expressed that India has a right to respond to acts of terrorism as it is a 'sovereign right'. Speaking about India's new approach towards countering terrorism, he said, 'The new doctrine of India, we have been told, says that wherever the terrorist is on the globe, if it strikes on Indian soil, then India has the right to respond. And that is obvious, because the right to respond is a sovereign right on every state that has been afflicted by this menace.' He also said, 'It is terrorism that affects the livelihood of the civilians. So the way you respond to it is entirely through the national legislative measures. As the African Union, we have put in place normative frameworks. The Notch Court process, the Djibouti process, the counterterrorism centre in Algiers, and the information sharing centre in Entebbe, Uganda. Some of these are mechanisms that were put in place for sharing information and intelligence with our partners and allies.' India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7 in a decisive military response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed. Indian armed forces targeted terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the death of over 100 terrorists affiliated with terror outfits like the Jaish-e-Mohammed, Lashkar-e-Taiba and Hizbul Mujahideen. After the attack, Pakistan retaliated with cross-border shelling across the Line of Control and Jammu and Kashmir as well as attempted drone attacks along the border regions, following which India launched a coordinated attack and damaged radar infrastructure, communication centres and airfields across 11 airbases in Pakistan. Govt prioritising lower denomination notes and digital transactions: Sitharaman
New Delhi [India], May 31 (ANI): Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said on Saturday that the priority of the government is to 'make sure' that currency in circulation will be in 'lower denominations' and spreading more awareness for 'doing digital transfers.' Answering a question on the future of Rs 500 currency, Sitharaman said, 'We are making every effort to make sure that currency will be in the lower denominations, used much more than the higher, as the Rs 2000 is almost completely out of circulation, except for possibly 0.02, which is still lying outside. Others have given it to the banks.' 'We need to have more digital awareness built so that people see a benefit in doing digital transfers,' the Union Finance Minister said at the 'National Commemorative Seminar on 60 Years of Pt Deendayal Upadhyaya Integral Humanism Lectures' in the national capital. In recent years, India has witnessed an unparalleled rise in digital transactions, marking a significant milestone in its journey towards becoming a cashless society. At the forefront of India's digital payment revolution is UPI with a record hit of 16.73 billion transactions in December 2024. In addition to this, Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) and FASTag have emerged as pivotal players, making financial transactions faster, more accessible, and secure. As of recent data from the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), UPI has set a new record by processing over 16.73 billion transactions, with a staggering transaction value of Rs 23.25 lakh crore. This is a notable jump from Rs 21.55 lakh crore in November. In 2024, UPI processed around 172 billion transactions, marking a 46 per cent increase from 117.64 billion in 2023. This rise underscores a broader cultural shift toward financial inclusivity, with UPI being a central pillar. (ANI)
