G Flip: AFL mad singer-songwriter on Collingwood, the grand final and new tour
Collingwood-mad music star G Flip has become a victim of their own success.
The ARIA-winning Melbourne-born, US-based singer-songwriter, who identifies as non-binary and uses they-them pronouns, is backing their beloved Magpies to go all the way this year, but is already booked up for Grand Final day.
'Absolutely, we are Flagpies 2025,' said G Flip. 'And I'm so sad because I have a festival in Washington so I won't be able to get back but everyone knows that I will be watching at whatever hour. We can't be driving on tour where I can't get reception. We need to be with a stable Wi-Fi connection so I can watch the Pies in the grand final.'
Although G Flip now lives in Los Angeles, the drummer and multi-instrumentalist still gets up at all hours to watch their team play – and carefully stage-managed their current promotional trip of Australia to be able to catch Collingwood play on the Gold Coast last week and caught up in the dressing room after the game with skipper Darcy Moore.
G Flip has even converted their wife of three years – US actor and reality TV star Chrishell Stause, with whom she appeared on the cover of US weekly in May for their Pride edition – to the black and white cause.
'She is a Collingwood supporter,' G Flip said. 'I've bought her two jerseys, a scarf, a couple of hats and a beanie. And she's got a MCC membership even though she's never been to the MCG.'
With third album Dream Ride, the follow-up to 2023 No.1 album Drummer, due in September and new single In Another Life released last week, G Flip is back in Australia to announce their biggest tour on home soil yet next year.
The tour will kick off at Brisbane's Riverstage on February 27 before moving to Sydney's Hordern Pavilion on March 3; Melbourne's Margaret Court Arena, March 5; Adelaide Entertainment Centre, March 7; and Fremantle Arts Centre March 15, with tickets on sale next Monday.
And while G Flip says that the size of the venues is 'a bit daunting', previous gigs such as playing last year's New Year's Eve broadcast to a TV audience of millions, will help them make the big step up.
'All of these shows I've done in my past is just prepping me to take the next step and get to bigger shows,' G Flip said. 'But in saying that, I feel like every like 15 shows something goes wrong. I feel like that's just like a thing with everyone but you just learn how to deal with it. I played a show not long ago and all the power went out. So I just ripped the drum solo because drums don't need a mic.
'Playing all these different stages, all these different venues, all these different places in the world, it's just made me grow and mature as a performer and an artist on how to deal with different situations.'

Mattel opens adults-only Uno club at Las Vegas Palms Casino with strict gambling restrictions

The popular family game played by people as young as seven will make its controversial debut in Sin City on Friday in a wild shift from the dining table to the dealer's circle. Game owners Mattel have given the green light to a 'Uno Social Club' above the gaming floors at The Palms Casino in Las Vegas off the Nevada strip, with plans to expand to more gambling locations. Slamming down the cards in frustration after copping a draw four won't exactly be the classiest move at the decked out venue, with players treated to dedicated game hosts shuffling the decks — ensuring no cheating. The room will also feature a private bowling alley, pool table and plush lounges. Different variations of the classic game will be on offer on different tables from July 18-20 and there'll be no children in sight at the exclusive event, with only participants over 21 allowed. But there's a catch. X SUBSCRIBER ONLY Guests wanting to gamble on the games, despite the venue, won't be allowed. 'If y'all thought gambling addiction was bad now, when this is official gambling rate might go up especially for average people,' another said. 'What's next? Coin toss?' Earlier this year Yaamava Resort and Casino in California duped users online as part of an April fool's joke by announcing a real-money Uno table game at their venue, with tongue-in-cheek warnings to 'please use Draw 4's responsibly.' North Melbourne floated as potential third club for Collingwood veteran Jeremy Howe
Mitch Cleary has floated the possibility that Collingwood veteran could finish his decorated AFL career at North Melbourne. The high-flying defender's current contract expires at the end of this year and is yet to receive a new offer from the Magpies. But despite his current groin injury, which will see him sidelined for another week, the star interceptor is playing as well as he ever has, and warrants an AFL contract for next year, when he will turn 36. Cleary said the Kangaroos could do worse than consider offering him one. 'Still no formal contract offer from the Pies,' he said on Tuesday night's episode of The Agenda Setters. 'I think, if I was North Melbourne, they've missed on Nathan Broad, they've missed on Brayden Maynard, I think he would be the perfect guy to go and nurture some of these young defenders. 'We've seen Will Dawson you've been big on in the last couple of months, Charlie Comben's still finding his feet — (he'd be perfect) to go and partner up as that third tall in defence for a year or two at North Melbourne. 'He is still, to this point, yet to receive an offer from Collingwood.' Howe played 100 games for Melbourne before being traded to Collingwood at the end of 2015. Speaking to Unfiltered this week, Howe opened up on the sickening arm break that sidelined him for most of the 2023 season, revealing how close he was to retiring. Howe suffered the gruesome injury in the opening-round clash against Geelong, but it was the complications and infections after the surgery that almost forced him to walk away from the game. The much-loved player detailed his immediate thoughts of the sickening injury to the low points of the recovery in a powerful episode of Unfiltered. 'The moment where I go upside down, I heard the snap before I hit a deck,' he tells Hamish McLachlan. 'And then once I got to the ground, I'm literally was laying there. Feels pretty painful ... Bruzzy (Brayden Maynard) comes over to pick me up, and then he's like 'oh f***' and I looked down my forearms facing the bench, but by the rest of my forearms up against my rib cage.' 'So it's snapped in four different places, and then my elbow tried to dislocate, chipped two bones in my elbow and snapped my AC joint at the same time. 'And they gave me a green whistle, and it did nothing. I had to wait for the ambos to get there before I could get pain relief. 'My dad was at the game. He came down. I was pretty much in tears, and I was shaking on the bed. I couldn't stop shaking, and I was like, whether I was in shock or they were trying to hold my arm but my legs are trembling. 'The chest is just shuddering, felt like I'm having pain attack. The pain was so significant, I've never felt like anything like it, it was like a blow torch to my arm.'
