Would Nick Saban ever return to coaching? Georgia head coach Kirby Smart weighs in
Since, many across college football have chimed in to give their thoughts as to if that would ever happen, the latest of which came Tuesday morning at SEC football media days in Georgia head coach Kirby Smart.
'That's not happening, I don't think Nick's coming back,' Smart said. 'I think he's too happy where he is. I think y'all are lacking buzz and they needed some buzz yesterday. That was the only thing that could generate some buzz besides Lane and Hugh (Freeze) feud over the internet. There's just not a lot there.'
Among current SEC head coaches, Smart was the one who was with Saban the longest at Alabama, spending nine seasons in Tuscaloosa, many of which came as defensive coordinator from 2008-15.
Since taking over as head coach at Georgia in 2016, Saban and Smart met head-to-head six times on the gridiron, with Alabama owning a 5-1 combined record. Two of those games came in the national championship, with the teams splitting the matchups, along with three SEC title contests.

Alabama Football's Ryan Williams signs Nike NIL deal
The post Alabama Football's Ryan Williams signs Nike NIL deal appeared first on ClutchPoints. With the inception of NIL and its introduction to the college sports landscape, university student-athletes have an opportunity to make more money throughout their college careers than some professional athletes make on a yearly basis. There's arguably no bigger co-sign than a partnership with Nike and Alabama Football wide receiver Ryan Williams just made his dreams a reality with his latest deal. Check our Sneakers news for more upcoming releases and breaking content! Ryan Williams burst onto the college football scene as a freshman in 2024, notching 48 receptions for 865 yards and eight touchdowns through the air. He also added two rushing touchdowns throughout the season on only four attempts, immediately making an impact as one of the most explosive players in the country by the end of the year. Heading into his second season, Williams is already garnering attention as an incoming Heisman hopeful. Nike immediately took notice of his debut season, making him just the second NCAA football player (Shadeur Sanders) to receive an NIL deal. Sanders turned his NIL deals into an NFL contract and we can expect a similar path from Williams as he evolves. Nike signs Alabama WR Ryan Williams In a press release, Williams explained his choice of Nike: 'Since I can remember, Nike has always been the best fit on and off the field. … When I had the opportunity to join the Nike family, I knew I had to just do it.' On3 sports is valuing Williams' current NIL deals at around $2.7 million, already making him one of the highest-paid college athletes of the last few years. This, of course, is in addition to Williams being named a cover athlete for the upcoming EA Sports College Football '26 video game. With his Nike deal already behind him, expect Ryan Williams to be the next big thing in college football for the Alabama Crimson Tide this upcoming season. Former Spartan Jase Richardson back around program following strong NBA Summer League
The culture at Michigan State basketball is simply different, and former Spartans star Jase Richardson further proved that in the past few days. Richardson just finished up an impressive showing in his first career professional action during the NBA Summer League so what's next for him? Maybe a tropical trip or some other destination before preparing for his rookie season in the NBA? Nope, he's right back at Michigan State. Richardson posted an Instagram picture on Sunday showing he was back at the Spartans' practice facility with a simple comment about his return to East Lansing, Mich. -- "always home." You can see the post from Richardson below: Richardson starred for the Spartans in his lone year of college hoops this past season. As a true freshman, Richardson became the Spartans' top player and helped lead them to a Big Ten title and Elite Eight finish in the NCAA Tournament. That strong play resulted in him being selected by the Orlando Magic in the first round of the NBA Draft last month. Former players and those close to the program always talk about how the culture at Michigan State is different from many other places. This is just another example of how head coach Tom Izzo and others around the Spartans' program always make it a place where former players want to come back to and visit. Former UNC pitcher named amongst ESPN's Top 50 MLB Trade Deadline candidates
Don't be shocked to see this former Diamond Heel on a new MLB team come August. Athletes will struggle, even at the professional level. Just ask Arizona Diamondbacks pitcher Zac Gallen, the former UNC standout who is mired in the worst season of his MLB career. Gallen, who finished top fiv ive in NL CY Young voting for the 2023 MLB season, currently sports a 7-10 win-loss record with a 5.40 earned run average. Despite striking out 110 batters, good enough for 30th amongst all pitchers, Gallen just gave up six runs in a Saturday loss to the sub-.500 Los Angeles Angels. Sometimes, players just need a change of scenery to rediscover their talent. Such could be the case for Gallen, whom ESPN recently named a Top 50 Trade Deadline Candidate. "Gallen was excellent for the past three seasons but now, in a contract year, is posting career-worst numbers in almost every category," Kiley McDaniel and Jeff Passan wrote. "His stuff looks similar, but he's allowing much more damage when hitters make contact. That said, his strikeout-to-walk ratio is back to normal in his past five starts, at 29-to-5, despite a 6.04 ERA in that span. Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said the team does not plan to deal away players at the deadline, but if Arizona doesn't make a run, it could reap a huge return with all its impending free agents." Arizona is in a comfortable spot itself, sitting at .500 and eight games out of first place in the NL West, with a deficit even closer in the wild card race. I'm sure the Diamondbacks want the former Diamond Heel for their playoff push – and they have until July 31 to decide. Gallen compiled a 14-13 win-loss record at North Carolina, compiling a 3.36 ERA and striking out 231 batters. Gallen was part of Arizona's World Series run in 2023, starting Game 1 as its staff ace, then followed that season up with a 14-6 campaign in 2024. Will Gallen stay put in the desert or join a World Series contender? You'll know by Thursday, July 31, better known as the trade deadline.
