Aneesah Morrow Details What WNBA Teams Should Know About Her Before the Draft
Aneesah Morrow didn't just lead NCAA Division I women's basketball in rebounding during her senior season at LSU, but she also displayed a mindset that impressed scouts and general managers. As a result, she's widely projected to go in the top 10 of the 2025 WNBA Draft.
The All-American forward averaged 18.7 points and 13.5 rebounds while shooting 49.0 percent from the field in 2025, finishing her as the third all-time leading rebounder in NCAA Division I women's basketball history.

'I don't like to be denied. I don't like to be told no,' Morrow said. 'It might sound like being a little spoiled, but at the same time, I work very hard on and off the floor — academically, in the classroom, in the weight room, trying to see my body change. I really work hard to accomplish the goals that I want.'
Before learning where she will play professional basketball, Morrow is embracing the moment in New York City. During WNBA Draft weekend, Morrow worked behind the counter at Raising Cane's in New York, serving fans and reflecting on her path to the pros.
'LSU has been a big part of building my brand and being here at Cane's today is so special,' Morrow said. 'Cane's was my first meal at LSU, and it was so good. I have a lot of experience going to Cane's after practice with my teammates. My go-to order is the Box Combo, no slaw, extra fries, and extra toast.'

Wings general manager Curt Miller, who previously coached the Connecticut Sun and Los Angeles Sparks, said Morrow's production will translate easily at the next level.

'Rebounding has always translated,' Miller said. 'She's undersized, so it talks about tenacity, it talks about desire. Rebounding is a hustle statistic.'
Morrow agrees with Miller's assessment, emphasizing the value of being aggressive on the boards. She fully intends to bring this approach and mentality to the WNBA.
'Getting extra possessions for my team is huge,' Morrow said. 'It requires hunger and grit. If it were easy, everyone would do it. I'm going to stay the course and keep that mindset.'
With projections placing her anywhere from No. 5 to No. 9 overall, Morrow may not know where she's headed yet — but she already is focused on maximizing her potential, wherever she plays.

'I want to improve my ball-handling, knock down the three consistently, and create for others,' Morrow said. 'But I know what I bring on the boards. That's who I am.'
Morrow will find out her next team after the WNBA Draft begins on Monday, April 14, with a start time of 7:30 p.m. ET.

Behind Kelsey Mitchell's career high, Indiana Fever pick up massive win
Behind Kelsey Mitchell's career high, Indiana Fever pick up massive win originally appeared on The Sporting News Caitlin Clark's Indiana Fever season has not gone like she and the organization had planned. Clark has played 13 games, and numerous other members of the Indiana Fever have also missed time. On Sunday, Sophie Cunningham went out with a knee injury, and going forward, her status is unknown. Indiana was on the ropes of losing their third straight game, as the Connecticut Sun led the game by 21 points. The Sun came into the game with a 6-26 record, which was the worst in the league. But Kelsey Mitchell and her teammates were rock solid and finished off an overtime win. Indiana finished the 99-93 come-from-behind effort. At the end of regulation, Tina Charles and Aliyah Boston went back and forth, both scoring in the final minute to tie the game. Connecticut got the ball with just shy of 20.0 and drew up a play. The ball eventually got to Marina Mabrey, and she was unable to connect in the lane. Indiana called a timeout with 1.4 to go, but could not get a shot off in overtime. Kelsey Mitchell got the first basket of overtime, which was the first lead for the Fever since 4-3. After Connecticut tied the game, Mitchell struck again, with back-to-back three pointers, and another bucket to finish with a season high 38 points. Mabrey led Connecticut in scoring with 27 points, while Charles scored 21. Now, all eyes remain on Indiana, and whether they can reach the postseason. At 19-16, the Fever have nine games to go. The remainder of August will see Indiana taking on Minnesota in home and away games, followed by games against the Storm, Sparks, and Valkyries. The first game against the Lynx comes on Friday. In September, Indiana starts at Phoenix, before coming home to host the Chicago Sky. In the final two games, the Fever first play at the Washington Mystics, and then have another game at home against the Minnesota Lynx. Sophie Cunningham ruled out of Fever's overtime win over Sun after going down with a knee injury
Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has been ruled out of Sunday's game against the Connecticut Sun with a knee injury, marking the latest injury to a Fever squad that has already been decimated. The injury occurred during the second quarter when Connecticut guard Bria Hartley drove to the basket but fell and collided with Cunningham's leg on her way down. Cunningham stayed down clutching her right knee and visibly in pain as the rest of the team went to the other side of the court. She was helped off the court and into the locker room, wearing a towel over her head. Cunningham's injury is just the latest for the Fever, who have lost most of their guards due to injury. Caitlin Clark has missed most of the season with a groin injury, while the other two point guards — Aari McDonald and veteran Sydney Colson — both suffered season-ending injuries in a loss to the Phoenix Mercury earlier this month. Colson went down with an ACL tear, while McDonald suffered a broken bone in her foot. Last week, the Fever signed veteran guard Odyssey Sims to a hardship contract to help replenish their point guard depth. Sims made her first start for Indiana on Sunday. After Cunningham went down, the Fever battled back to a 99-93 overtime win. Despite Connecticut being up by as many as 21 points, Indiana forced OT after a stellar 32-point fourth quarter. Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell finished with 38 points, tying a season high; 34 of those points came after halftime.

Atlanta Dream Coach Has Strong Words for Brittney Griner on Sunday
Atlanta Dream Coach Has Strong Words for Brittney Griner on Sunday originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Brittney Griner returned to the court for the Atlanta Dream on Sunday on the court she called home for more than a decade. Griner had missed three straight games due to a neck injury entering the Dream's game at Phoenix. Though her stat line did not match her usual numbers, she helped Atlanta earn a 74-66 victory over the Mercury, the team Griner spent her first 11 WNBA seasons playing for. Atlanta coach Karl Smesko discussed the return of Griner after the game, declaring she had a great performance against one of the best teams in the WNBA. "I thought BG was great," Smesko said. "She was moving great. She looked really good out there. Defensively, she was excellent. She was controlling the point. I thought really good first game back for her." Griner finished the win over the Phoenix Mercury with two points, two rebounds and one assist. She played 13 minutes as Atlanta eased her back into action. Griner is playing her first season with the Dream and is looking to help lead Atlanta to a WNBA title alongside stars Rhyne Howard and Allisha Gray. Howard has also been out due to an injury. While the Dream have dealt with several injuries and setbacks, they have the third-best record in the league. Griner is averaging 10.6 points, 5.6 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game. This story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Aug 11, 2025, where it first appeared.
