If BJP is voted to power, Hindus won't need to beg for Bonalu funds: Minister Bandi
The BJP leader, who visited different temples to participate in Bonalu festivities during the day, said people need not beg for funds as they are sincerely paying all their bills and taxes.
He announced that if the BJP is voted to power in the state, the situation would be different. 'Funds would be allocated for Bonalu and all other Hindu festivals, ensuring that every Hindu feels proud of these celebrations,' he declared.
The MoS urged the residents of the Old City who had left their homes due to terrorist bombings and 'Jihadi gangs' during the UPA regime to return to their own houses. 'People of the Old City, I appeal to all of you.

New Delhi: The People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has expressed outrage over the decision of the Jammu and Kashmir Government's home department headed by lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha to forfeit 25 book titles in an omnibus order under Section 98 of the BNSS, for 'promoting secessionism' and 'inciting violence against [the] Indian state' in the Union territory. In a statement issued by its national president Kavita Srivastava and general secretary V. Suresh, the PUCL termed the notification 'an arbitrary and brute exercise of power by the state uncanalised by the discipline of the Constitution'. 'What the state is seeking to tell the citizens is that any opinion which is not the opinion of the state cannot be tolerated. This is a form of totalitarian thinking which is unacceptable in a constitutional democracy,' said the PUCL statement. 'By the mass forfeiting of books, the Jammu and Kashmir government is utilising a colonial, British-era law (Section 95 of the colonial, British era, CrPC finds its Bharatiya or so-called decolonial avatar, as Section 98 of the BNSS) which was designed to suppress demands for Indian independence. This law has been used by the British to ban canonical texts like Hind Swaraj by Mahatma Gandhi,' the statement added. PUCL said that among the 25 books forfeited are books by Anuradha Bhasin, Sumantra Bose, Tariq Ali, A.G. Noorani, Arundhati Roy, Ather Zia and a host of others, books that give a flavour of the realms traversed covering history, memory, poetry and politics. 'These books represent a vibrant intellectual culture of thinking and writing about Kashmir. These viewpoints may be deemed unacceptable by the Indian establishment, but they are viewpoints which are protected speech under the Indian Constitution. The forfeiture notice is an attempt at stifling collective memory and preventing thought in Kashmir,' said the PUCL statement. 'By clamping down on these books, the attempt to stifle the very heart of intellectual life: which is to seek knowledge and form opinion by gathering thought from all, including contrarian, sources,' it added. 'The forfeiture notification is illegal and unconstitutional' The PUCL said that the Jammu and Kashmir government must appreciate that there may be viewpoints they disagree with, but a constitutional democracy is based on the fact that dissenting opinions exist and should be respected. 'What is not apparent from a reading of the Government notification is a reasoning as to the grounds for forfeiture. What the notification has is a bald, bare and sweeping assertion with no reference to how any of the twenty-five books have contributed to 'radicalisation of youth in J&K include distortion of historical facts, glorification of terrorists, vilification of security forces, religious radicalisation, promotion of alienation, pathway to violence and terrorism etc,'' said the PUCL statement. 'When there is an omnibus forfeiture order of 25 books, without any specific reference to the content of any of the books, prima facie it appears that the exercise of the power of forfeiture is not a justified exercise of power under Section 98 of the BNSS and will not come within the reasonable restrictions under Article 19(2) of the Constitution,' it added. The PUCL said that Section 152 of the BNS which is the so called decolonial law, strikingly goes even further than Section 124-A (sedition) of the IPC in its criminalisation of speech. It demanded an immediate withdrawal of the forfeiture notice of 25 books by the Jammu and Kashmir government and also called for the repealing of Section 152 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. Kerala woman claims fake voters registered to her house A woman in Kerala has claimed that nine 'fake' voters were registered against her address in Thrissur. As per an India Today report, the woman has claimed that she was the only person in her household who votes in Thrissur city. Her family, which includes four adults and two children, are registered to Poochinipadam village. Speaking to reporters, she learnt of the nine new names when she was approached for verification. 'We don't know any of them [nine additional names]. We have been living here for four years. It's not right to add names to our address without our consent," she told India Today, adding that she had filed a complaint with the district collector. LS passes Indian Ports Bill, 2025 amid unprecedented ruckus by Oppn
New Delhi: The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Indian Ports Bill, 2025 by voice vote, replacing the colonial-era Indian Ports Act of 1908, even as sustained sloganeering and protests from Opposition benches drowned out much of the debate. The Bill, moved by Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, seeks to consolidate and modernise the legal framework governing India's ports, with an emphasis on cooperative federalism and strategic maritime development. The House reassembled at 3 PM with Jagdambika Pal in the chair, who invited Sonowal to move the Bill for consideration. The Minister outlined the Bill's objectives, stating that it would facilitate ease of doing business, ensure optimal utilisation of India's coastline, and empower State Maritime Boards for effective management of non-major ports. He also highlighted the Bill's provisions for managing pollution, disaster response, port safety, navigation, and data governance, while aligning domestic regulations with India's international obligations. A key feature of the legislation is the statutory establishment of the Maritime States Development Council (MSDC), which has existed since 1997 through executive notification. The Bill expands MSDC's mandate to include major ports under central control, enabling a consultative and collaborative framework between the Centre and coastal states. The minister Sonowal said the Council would advise on long-term planning, issue non-binding guidelines, and foster structured growth across the port sector. Despite the Minister's address, proceedings were repeatedly interrupted by Opposition members who stormed the Well of the House, shouting slogans such as 'We want justice.' The Chair made multiple appeals for order, assuring members that everyone would be given a chance to speak, but his voice was largely drowned in the din. Participating in the debate, BJP MP Dilip Saikia (Darrang-Udalgudi, Assam) described ports as 'engines of employment' and urged Opposition members to engage constructively. He noted that port capacity had increased by 87 per cent over the last decade under the Modi government, and said the Bill would open new gateways to Southeast Asia, enhancing regional connectivity and trade. TDP MP Sribharat Muthukumilli (Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh) also spoke in support of the Bill, emphasising its potential to strengthen coastal infrastructure and empower state-level port authorities. BJP's Darshan Singh Choudhary (Hoshangabad, Madhya Pradesh) echoed similar sentiments, calling the legislation a timely intervention for maritime reform. The Bill includes provisions for adjudicatory mechanisms to resolve port-related disputes and mandates conservation measures to protect port ecosystems. It also addresses emergency preparedness, security protocols, and compliance with international maritime instruments. In passing the Bill, the government signalled its intent to recalibrate Centre-State relations in port governance, especially in light of shifting political equations following the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The consultative framework embedded in the legislation is seen as a response to coalition compulsions and the need to accommodate regional aspirations, the minister said and urged the house to pass the Bill. Following the passage of the Bill by voice vote, the Chair adjourned the House till 4:30 PM.
