Prosecco-fuelled woman banned from driving after crashing husband's £200k Ferrari

Claire Taddei admitted crashing the Ferrari 458 Spider, belonging to husband Dom, while driving her friend home late at night when she was over the limit. A woman has been banned from driving and fined after she smashed her husband's £200,000 Ferrari following a Prosecco-fuelled booze up. ‌ Claire Taddei, 47, admitted crashing the Ferrari 458 Spider, belonging to husband Dom, while driving her friend home late at night when she was over the limit. ‌ The mortgage firm boss ploughed the flash sports car into another motor while more than twice the legal limit, causing £50,000 worth of damage. ‌ The smash happened on Market Square in Melrose, Roxburghshire, in February. Police were alerted around midnight when Taddei, a chief financial officer, crashed the car and an eye-witnesses took a video of her staggering out. She failed a roadside breath test and was arrested and charged before being taken to hospital with suspected concussion. She pled guilty yesterday at Selkirk Sheriff Court to driving while over the limit. The court heard that the mum of four had walked to a friend's house at 8pm with another pal to celebrate their new job. ‌ Taddei's lawyer, Laurelle Johnstone, said her client 'shared two bottles of prosecco and her other friend had a bottle of wine.' Johnstone added: 'The friend she walked there with became intoxicated and they left around 10.30pm to walk home. Her friend began to fall over after around 10 minutes. By that time, it was wet and dark and they had two dogs with them. ‌ '[Taddei] was concerned about them walking over a pedestrian bridge over the river and then her friend fell again. At that time, Ms Taddei panicked. She tried to call her mum and dad but they had also been drinking but offered to let her friend stay the night. 'When she tried to get her friend up to do that, she wasn't cooperative. Her friend had a son and was anxious to get home. ‌ 'No one was able to assist and [Taddei] got herself in a state of panic. She ran home with the dogs to get her car. She put her friend in the recovery position on the grass and drove her husband's car. 'She had driven it only once. It's a Ferrari and is particularly responsive. 'She drove back and only got one mile down the road before colliding with another vehicle. When the car stopped, she became aware of six or seven people who came out of a pub. They were hurling abuse at her and she felt vulnerable.' Johnstone told the court that due to Taddei being intoxicated, her insurer wouldn't cover the damage to both vehicles. She has already shelled out £50,000 for repairs to the Ferrari. Sheriff Sinclair fined Taddei £900 and told her that her driving ban would be cut from 12 months to nine if she does a drink-driving course.

Drugs campaigner Peter Krykant praised as a 'lifesaver' as he is laid to rest

'Peter's death is a great tragedy to all those who knew and loved him. He undoubtedly saved lives and his legacy is evident.' Drugs campaigner Peter Krykant was praised as a 'lifesaver' as he was laid to rest yesterday. ‌ The dad of two, whose drugs consumption van in Glasgow made headlines around the world, had battled his own addiction issues and suffered relapses before his sudden death. ‌ Krykant, 58, set out to force a change in the way addicts are treated in Scotland and the rest of the UK, personally financing a mobile service to allow people to inject drugs safely. ‌ His efforts are recognised to have played a huge part in liberalising drugs policy in Scotland, where greater emphasis is now placed on the health of those in addiction. After his funeral at Falkirk Crematorium, which was attended by several prominent politicians and drugs policy activists, Krykant was praised by MSP Paul Sweeney, who had helped staff the mobile drug service prior to be elected to his current seat. Sweeney said: 'Peter's death is a great tragedy to all those who knew and loved him. He undoubtedly saved lives and his legacy is evident.' ‌ Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Celebrant John Fox told gathered family and friends: 'The tragedy is that Peter cared so much about the cause of safe consumption and harm reduction to improve the lives and experiences of people who use drugs. "Yet he was not able to address his own mental and physical health and to find his way out of addiction and back to the safe stability of his loving family and friends.' Krykant's crusade, which defied UK law, operated in full sight of police in Glasgow for 10 months after he set it up in 2020. A state-backed safe consumption centre has since been established in Glasgow. He converted an ambulance for addicts to use in Glasgow and discussed the service in a meeting with former First Minister Nicola Sturgeon.

Man appears in court over gangland salon fire after locals flee from torched building

Jordan Steele, 38, appeared in court charged with firearm offences after a beauty salon was torched in the gangland war. A man has appeared in court after a beauty salon was torched in a gangland f eud causing locals to have to flee their homes. Belle Cheveux, on Albert Street in Leith, burst into flames during the early hours of Thursday, March 6. It was one of the first targets in the gangland war that has been raging across Scotland in recent months. Jordan Steele, 38, of Edinburgh, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday, July 21, in connection with the incident. He was charged with firearms offences, including possessing a firearm without authorisation. Steele made no plea and was granted bail. His next appearance has not yet been confirmed. Another man has previously appeared in court also in connection with the incident in June. Owen Logan, 26, was arrested in a police raid as part of Police Scotland's Operation Portaledge investigation. Logan made no plea to a single charge of wilful fire-raising and was remanded in custody. A number of incidents have since taken place in Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas in recent months, with private homes and business premises targeted. Dubai based Mr Big, Ross McGill, has been waging war on Mark Richardson's mob and the Daniel clan since March after he was ripped off in a £500,000 cocaine deal when the buyer used fake bank notes. In the most serious of incidents, there was an attempted murder of one of Richardson's top associates. David McMillan, 54, was allegedly attacked with machetes outside his house on Pitcairn Grove in Edinburgh on Thursday, May 22. Three more arrests were made by cops probing a gangland war over the weekend, bringing the total number of Operation Portaledge arrests to 55. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community!
