Kaizer Chiefs face stiff competition for dazzling Nzengeli

Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly intensifying their pursuit of highly-rated winger Maxi Mpia Nzengeli, but face stiff competition from Moroccan heavyweights Wydad Athletic Club and other African giants.
The 25-year-old DRC international has lit up the Tanzanian Premier League this season, netting five goals and contributing nine assists for Young Africans SC. His form hasn't gone unnoticed, especially at Naturena, where Chiefs are believed to be seriously monitoring his situation.
Nzengeli joined Yanga in July 2023 on a two-year deal from AS Maniema Union. And instantly made his mark by helping the club secure the league title. With back-to-back championships now in sight, the versatile midfielder is set to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign.
His dazzling displays have put him just behind another Kaizer Chiefs target, Azam FC playmaker Feisal Salum, in the assist rankings. Salum has tallied 13 assists this season, while Nzengeli follows closely with nine.
Despite Yanga's hope of renewing his contract, sources indicate the two parties have yet to reach an agreement. 'Talks are ongoing,' a source close to the club revealed, 'but nothing has been finalised.'
With no deal in place and time running out, Nzengeli has become a hot prospect across the continent. Chiefs, who are desperate to bolster their creative options ahead of the 2025/2026 season. They see the Congolese star as a valuable addition to their squad.
A source with intimate knowledge of the negotiations confirmed. 'Naturena has been seen as a possible destination if he decides against staying at Yanga.'
Amakhosi face a fierce battle, though, with an unnamed Egyptian Premier League side and now Wydad AC joining the race for his signature. Wydad's entry adds pressure to Chiefs' ambitions
According to Sportswire , Wydad Athletic Club have already opened exploratory talks with Nzengeli's representatives. The Moroccan outfit recently signed Stephane Aziz Ki from Yanga and are keen to raid the Tanzanian champions once again.
Would Maxi Mpia Nzengeli thrive at Kaizer Chiefs?

Mamelodi Sundowns aim to break their Asian jinx against Ulsan at the FIFA Club World Cup

Teboho Mokoena WITH his international experience representing Bafana Bafana Mamelodi Sundowns' star midfielder Teboho Mokoena will be a key player at the FIFA Club World Cup in Florida, USA. | AFP On Wednesday, Mamelodi Sundowns will embark on their much-anticipated FIFA Club World Cup journey, taking on South Korean heavyweights Ulsan Hyundai at the Exploria Stadium in Florida. As a dominant force in African football, Sundowns carry high hopes for this prestigious tournament. Their impressive track record in recent years displayed not only their skill on the ball but also the class in their squad. With a blend of experienced players and promising talent, the team is well-equipped to cope with the Asian challenge. This clash (starting Tuesday, 6pm, local USA time) marks Sundowns' second appearance at the global showcase. In 2016, they suffered first-round defeats against Kashima Antlers and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors in Japan. This year, however, Sundowns are determined to turn the tide in their favour. Having recently clinched their eighth successive Betway Premiership title, Sundowns head into the tournament with a mix of motivation and urgency. Following a heartbreak in the CAF Champions League final against Pyramids, the team is eager to make a strong impression and shake off the disappointment. Leading the charge for Sundowns will be Brazilian Lucas Ribeiro, who has established himself as the standout player of the Premier Soccer League (PSL), clinching the Golden Boot with 16 goals and providing 13 assists last season. His previous European experience makes him a key player to watch; a stellar performance could see him attract attention from larger clubs looking to secure top talent. Alongside Ribeiro is the versatile Teboho Mokoena, whose leadership in midfield is invaluable to Sundowns' success. Mokoena brings not only a calming presence but also a tactical intelligence that allows him to dictate the pace of the game. His aptitude for set pieces has been proven time and again, making him another player who will be in the scouts' sights throughout the tournament. Both players have demonstrated exceptional form and could prove to be instrumental in breaking down Ulsan's defence. Sundowns' ability to transition quickly from defence to attack positions them as a potent threat that the Korean side must prepare for. Ulsan HD, also eager to make their mark, face Sundowns with their ambitions. After a mixed domestic run, the pressure is on the South Korean giants to perform on the global stage, especially since their last appearance in the Club World Cup back in the 2020-21 season culminated in a disappointing outing. They have struggled lately and are without a clean sheet in their last four games, managing one in seven matches. This statistic may play an essential role in determining the eventual outcome. The match-up marks a long-awaited return to the global stage after they participated in the Club World Cup in the 2020-21 season when they were winless. Now, Ulsan will look to shake off a series of mixed domestic results, and the pressure is on to rediscover their winning form. It will be the first encounter between the two teams. Ulsan will be looking to make history against African opposition, while Sundowns are eager to rewrite their narrative from past encounters against Asian teams. Given the closely matched nature of both squads, the outcome could very well hinge upon moments of individual brilliance, with Sundowns hoping to regain their winning momentum.

'I'd wake up at 2am to play for Bafana'– Kaizer Chiefs midfielder

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Thabo Cele has indicated that he would do anything possible to represent Bafana Bafana. The 28-year-old has made a few appearances for the national team but has not been in Hugo Broos' plans for years. He was recently called to the Bafana Bafana's COSAFA Cup squad but withdrew due to injury. Cele joined Kaizer Chiefs on a free transfer after parting ways with the Russian side, Fakel Voronezh in January. He has been one of the club's good signings this past season, stamping his authority in the midfield. The Kaizer Chiefs midfielder expressed his desire to get back into the Bafana Bafana setup. 'Any opportunity I'm given to represent the country, I'd wake up even at 2 AM to play for the nation. But it's just that I've been struggling with an injury,' Cele said as per FARPost . 'I do watch Bafana games because it's football and I support the national team. I want to be part of that. When we grow up as young boys, we have dreams of representing the country. 'So, this is something I've been fighting for even with the Under-20s and U-23s. Even the soldiers, when they go to fight, wear a South African badge. So we want to be part of that,' Cele said. With positions at Bafana Bafana heavily contested, it would be tough for the Kaizer Chiefs midfielder to break through. Under Nabi, Cele has excelled and might get a call-up if Amakhosi improves next season. Pirates chase PSL winger, while Chiefs seek Mayele's alternative

Orlando Pirates are hopeful they will sign uSuthu star Tshepang Moremi, who recorded ten goal contributions last campaign. The 24-year-old, who is also being monitored by Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs, expressed his desires to partake in soccer's biggest stages, saying, 'I'd say that I am looking forward to keeping on improving. I aim to see myself playing in the Afcon and the Fifa World Cup, so I want to score goals and rack up assists.' Moremi has each of the PSL's big three after his signature, a testament to his skill and potential. 'There has been interest in Tshepang, and it's not only from Chiefs or Pirates,' a source revealed. 'Mamelodi Sundowns are also believed to be interested in him. However, the issue will be with AmaZulu, as they are not ready to release him unless the money is too good.' Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates' bitter rivals AmaKhosi are eyeing a Congolese attacker – and it's not Fiston Mayele. The player in question is Young Africans attacking midfielder Maxi Ngenzeli. 'At the moment the club has not yet signed some of the players who they want nor those they are looking at. It's believed that they are spreading the search wide so that they can get the kind of players they really need this season,' an inside source said. 'Apparently, Maxwell Nzengeli is one player they are also looking at. Coach Nabi knows him already, and the scouts and recruiters are also believed to have liked him and are looking at the possibility of getting him, depending on the conditions around the transfer.'
