The incident reportedly occurred during a commute from Marathahalli to JP Nagar 7th Phase around 8.24 pm on June 11.
The woman, Janhavi, shared a video of the confrontation on Instagram, which has since gone viral. In her post, she narrated the incident to raise awareness and urged the app-based aggregator to take action. What began as a routine commute, she said, quickly turned into a 'disturbing experience and nightmare.'

According to her account, the driver behaved suspiciously throughout the ride. "He was staring at me repeatedly through the rearview mirror in an uncomfortable, almost creepy way," Janhavi wrote. Sensing something was off, she alerted a friend via Snapchat, also noting that her phone battery was low.
To avoid being left without communication, she requested to pay the fare early. The driver allowed her to do so and even offered to charge her phone, which she handed over, a decision she later regretted.
The incident escalated around 9.40 pm when, just a kilometre away from her destination, Janhavi briefly stepped into a shop to buy coffee powder after a call from her mother. Upon exiting the store, she claims she caught the driver red-handed, trying to unzip her handbag, which had been left inside the auto.
'I saw him struggling to open the front zip of my bag. He didn't realize I was standing right behind him, watching everything,' she wrote.
When confronted, the driver allegedly claimed he was trying to move the bag for safety and later attempted to blame a nearby passerby for the attempted theft. Janhavi said she clarified the situation publicly and even involved the bystander to verify what had actually happened.
She recorded the confrontation on video, took note of the auto's registration number, and has filed a complaint with the app.
'This is NOT just about money. This is about trust, safety, and dignity. I shudder to think what could have happened if I hadn't returned in time,' she added in her post, tagging Rapido and urging the platform to take strict action against the driver and tighten background checks.
HT.com has reached out to Rapido for a statement and is currently awaiting a response.

Promising to get ‘lost love' back, gang cheats teen girl of Rs 16.18 lakh in gold, cash; 2 held

'As per the complaint, a thief entered her residence on August 1 through a half-opened door and stole 129 grams gold and cash, cumulatively valued at Rs 16.18 lakh. A parallel probe by the Crime Branch led to the questioning of the woman's teenage daughter,' the official said. The probe into the case began after a theft of Rs 16.18 lakh was reported at the Pydhonie residence of a 52-year-old woman, the official said. Mumbai, Aug 9 (PTI) Two persons were arrested from Rajasthan for allegedly duping people by promising to solve their relationship problems, including getting back lost love, a Mumbai police official said on Saturday. The teen girl told police her relationship with a man had gone sour as her parents were opposed to it, the official said. 'She came across one Irfan Khanji on Instagram who promised to get lost love back in 24 hours. The teen contacted a number given on the Instapage, and a person posing as a maulvi started speaking to her. He told her a ritual needed to be performed for which he must be given a silver pot, gold items etc,' the official said. After the teen girl agreed, two persons came to Mumbai and took these items and cash, totaling Rs 16.18 lakh, from her, he said. 'Based on the information provided by the girl, a probe began and two accused, identified as Vikas Meghwal (22) and Manoj Nagpal (30), were held from Gangapur in Rajasthan,' he said. 'The gang was cheating youngsters by claiming to set right issues in their relationships in 24 hours. Using this modus operandi, they have also duped people in Delhi and Haryana. Further probe is underway,' the official added. PTI DC BNM This report is auto-generated from PTI news service. ThePrint holds no responsibility for its content.

Trump to lay out his plan for reducing crime in Washington

President Donald Trump said he will lay out his administration's plan to reduce crime in the nation's capital, even as violent incidents in the District of Columbia are at a 30-year low. Trump said in a social media post that he will have a news conference on Monday that 'will, essentially, stop violent crime in Washington, DC.' Trump on Thursday directed an increased presence of federal law enforcement around Washington, DC, a day after threatening the federal government could seize control of it. That move came a day after a former member of his so-called Department of Government Efficiency was injured during an attempted carjacking in DC. The city, which has voted overwhelmingly for Democrats for decades, has also been seeking to end all federal control of the city, a movement known as 'home rule.' Violence has been dropping in the District for two years, according to local police data. As of Jan. 3, violent crime in DC in 2024 was at a 30-year low, according to the US Justice Department. Trump's powers to 'take over' the capital city are limited. Partial home rule was established by Congress in 1973, which allows residents to elect their own mayor, who appoints the police chief. Residents also elect a District council that can pass local laws. But those laws can be overturned by Congress, which approves the city's budget. Trump can't override the home rule law without Congress, but he can assign federal agents to conduct law enforcement operations inside the city and has done so before, acting independently of the Metropolitan Police Department. He has also said that he is considering deploying the National Guard in the city. The president has often, without evidence, cast cities around the country as crime-ridden, and has increased those complaints about DC since the former staffer was attacked. Trump said on his Truth Social platform earlier this week that he wants to 'federalize' the city if local officials don't do more to address crime. Trump has issued executive orders this year that created a panel to coordinate efforts to improve safety and address graffiti and vandalism in the city, along with one that ordered a crackdown on homeless encampments on federal lands.

Congress and BRS share a protection bond: Bandi Sanjay Kumar

Accusing the BRS and Congress of shielding each other's 'corruption' and 'acts of deception', Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Bandi Sanjay Kumar has alleged that the two parties are having a mutual understanding to defend each other from 'wrong-doings' as part of a 'protection bond.' He was speaking to mediapersons in Karimnagar after participating in Raksha Bandhan festivities on Saturday. Mr. Sanjay reiterated his demand for a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) into the phone tapping during the previous BRS rule, saying the scope of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) currently probing the case is very limited. The phone tapping was done under the K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) government in violation of the regulations of the Telecom Regulatory Authority, he said, saying, 'This is entirely a matter under the jurisdiction of the Centre. The accused extorted hundreds of crores of rupees from political leaders, businessmen and film actors through phone tapping, he charged. Where did that money go? he asked, saying finding an answer to that is beyond the capacity of SIT officials. Responding to a query, he said, 'We do have trust in the SIT officials. But we have no trust in the Congress government. In cases like irregularities in Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Scheme, power purchase agreements and the Formula E Race, and other scams surfaced during the previous BRS rule, the current Congress dispensation in the State is only delaying under the pretext of investigation without taking any action.' He further alleged that the phones of several politicians including the present Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy were also tapped by the previous BRS government. Can the SIT issue a notice to the Chief Minister and summon him for questioning? Mr Sanjay asked. It is imperative to hand over the phone tapping case to the central investigative agencies to complete the investigation quickly without delays, he insisted. Replying to a question, he said, 'The phones of the ministers, MLAs and MLCs were tapped. If BRS MLAs have any self-respect, they should leave that party.' 'BRS MLC Kalvakunta Kavitha should be served notices and questioned in the phone tapping case,' he said in reply to another query. On BRS working president K T Rama Rao (KTR)'s reported statement to issue a legal notice to him, Mr Sanjay said, 'I am ready to swear before God on phone tapping. Will KTR be ready to accept my challenge?'
