Smith was averaging just 6.7 points and 4.9 rebounds across 18 games with the Wings— career lows for a player who once dazzled as the No. 2 overall pick by the Indiana Fever in 2022.
She and Carrington, who had been teammates at Baylor in the 2020-21 season, were finally reunited in Dallas this year, sharing both the court and their relationship openly. Carrington reacted in her own quiet way, simply posting a broken-heart emoji on X.
Later, she followed up with shared photos of her and Smith on and off the court, accompanied by mending heart and infinity emojis.

he couple had built hopes around this shared WNBA chapter, especially after both were acquired in the offseason by Dallas. But those dreams were short-lived. 'I love you wifeyyyy take care of tha kidsss,' Smith added in a repost of Carrington's images, a tender message layered with pain.
Yet, in the midst of heartbreak, Smith turned to optimism. 'On another note tho if I could've chose anywhere to go it would've been Vegas so hella excited 4 this new opportunity wit my goat,' she wrote in a follow-up post. The "GOAT" in question is widely assumed to be three-time WNBA MVP and two-time champion A'ja Wilson, who anchors the Aces. Las Vegas is currently fighting to stabilize their season and regain their championship form.
