JDT ready for Selangor clash
Head coach Xisco Munoz, who will make his debut with the Southern Tigers tomorrow, believes his team are mentally and tactically prepared to rise to the occasion after a good pre-season in Spain.
The 44-year-old Spaniard said JDT owner Tunku Mahkota Ismail played a key role in smoothing the team's preparations ahead of their title defence.
'The most important also is we need to understand it's our first game at home, we need to connect with the fans, we need to connect with our style and we need to give our best.
'I think we are in a good way. We made very good pre-season (preparations) and we need to continue to improve a lot of things but we are in a good way,' Munoz told the pre match press conference here, today.
JDT enjoyed a promising pre-season in Spain, which included credible draws against Spanish side Levante UD and English League One outfit Cardiff City.
Meanwhile, JDT captain Natxo Insa also admitted that a quality pre-season has helped strengthen the 11-time consecutive Super League champions and put them on the right track to defend their title.
'I think we had a really good pre-season in Spain. We faced some strong teams and tomorrow we're aiming to give our best because we know how important it is to start the season with the right momentum. We need to carry forward the energy we've shown since pre-season into the match,' the 39-year-old midfielder said.
JDT have lifted the season-opening silverware nine times, including seven consecutive editions between 2018 and 2024.
The clash between JDT and Selangor is seen as a long-awaited rematch after last season's Charity Shield encounter was cancelled following Selangor's last-minute withdrawal.
Selangor were forced to pull out of the fixture due to a series of criminal incidents and threats involving several players, most notably the acid attack on winger Mohamad Faisal Abdul Halim on May 5.
As a result, JDT were awarded a 3-0 'walkover' victory and three Super League points - BERNAMA

Away game to start season

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah FC's first game in the new Super League season scheduled on August 19 has now been postponed till August 29 due to the Sabah Masters Athletics Championship, which is being held at Likas Stadium this weekend. As a result, Sabah FC season opener will now be an away game against Kuala Lumpur FC on August 13. Advertisement A home game to kick- start the season is always the best tonic for any team to register their first win with the support of their fans. Anyway, playing away doesn't mean that you are going to lose, but it is always going to be a difficult game as the host will have the backing of their home crowd and the pressure will be high for the visiting team. However, I believe with a positive mindset and strong confidence, we should be able to perform well and get a good result. After all, Sabah FC are not a new team. Most of the players have been with the team for at least two years and more. The comradeship of the players is definitely there and so is the bonding. Advertisement The old guards Saddil Ramdani, Telmo Castanheira, Park Taesu and Ko Kwang-min are no longer in the picture. The new faces to replace them are striker Ajdin Mujagic from Bosnia Herzegovina , midfielder Dean Pelekanos from Australia and defender Dane Ingham from New Zealand as well as naturalised national player Fergus Tierney. It will be interesting to see how well these players have blended into the team. I guess the first game against Kuala Lumpur will give us the answer. Darren Lok now has a new partner upfront with Ajdin and Fergus, who is one of the players in the National Under-23 squad. He is young and hungry and have a bright future. I just hope the new look strike force will make an immediate impact on the team and get us the goals. Jafri Chew, who seldom started the games past few seasons, is an asset and may have more playing time to contribute this season. With the absence of Telmo, I am certain Stuart Wilkin will have to take the lead in the engine room and hopefully his partnership with the new imports will be able to perform well. Centreback Gabriel Peres who missed the last few matches towards the end of last season due to injuries is now back with the team. I am sure the coaches are relieved to see his presence as he not only helped the team in defence but also managed to score goals. Let's hope the team can bring home the three points. Kuching City Crush KTRW 4-0 as PDRM and DPMM Draw 2-2
KUCHING City FC delivered a commanding performance with a 4-0 victory over Kelantan The Real Warriors (KTRW) in the Super League at the State Stadium in Kuching. Cameroonian striker Ronald Ngah Wanja was the standout performer, netting twice in the sixth and 71st minutes. Timor Leste's Joao Pedro added to the tally with a 17th-minute strike, while Muhammad Ramadhan Saifullah Usman sealed the win in stoppage time. KL City FC starts Super League season with 3-0 win over Immigration FC
KL City FC kicked off their 2025/2026 Super League campaign with an impressive 3-0 victory over Immigration FC at Batu Kawan Stadium. Head coach Risto Vidakovic hailed the win as a promising start despite limited preparation time with new squad members. 'We just brought many players together in a very short time. It is not easy to expect something special today. 'But of course, I am very happy with the result,' Vidakovic said during the post-match press conference.
