American Idol fans stunned as Carrie Underwood wears finale dress 20 years later to reveal top 10 contestants
Carrie Underwood stunned fans at the start of Monday's new episode of American Idol by donning a familiar dress from two decades ago.
The 42-year-old singer emerged victorious over Bo Bice almost exactly 20 years ago in late May 2005, with Underwood bringing a piece of that episode to Monday's new episode.
When host Ryan Seacrest mentioned that her outfit looked familiar, she confirmed that it was in fact the same orange dress she wore in the Season 4 finale.
'Yes, this is my finale dress. Yes. The old girl's held up pretty good,' Underwood told the crowd at the start of the episode.
Fans were just as stunned as Seacrest, with many taking to social media during the episode.
Franky (@RKOBlackSwan) tweeted, 'OMG. The judges are coming out to Inside Your Heaven and she's wearing the same dress as when she won. Hot!
Abbey Jones (@AbbeyJones11) simply tweeted, 'Carrie's dress!!!!!,' recognizing the orange dress from two decades earlier.
Molly (@MollyVegas) shared an image from the Season 4 finale 20 years ago, adding, '@carrieunderwood IS WEARING THE DRESS!!! #AmericanIdol.'
Kelly (@KellyHart278) @carrieunderwood is wearing the dress she was wearing when she won @AmericanIdol she is my favorite American Idol winner.'
Sara Jackson (@AFanOfTheDbacks) added, 'Carrie underwood is wearing the same dress as she did when she won American idol. #AmericanIdol

Amid his resurgence, Lionel has penned a tell-all memoir about his legendary nearly six-decade-long career, which is set for release for a September. The memoir, titled Truly, will be an 'intimate, deeply candid memoir,' according to its publisher HarperOne. The Endless Love singer 'seeks to inspire all who doubt themselves or feel their dreams don't matter by chronicling lessons learned in the course of his most unlikely of success stories,' a press release stated. Richie went 'from a painfully shy, tragically late bloomer grappling with ADHD to his dramatic transformation into a world-class entertainer and composer of love songs that have played like the soundtrack of our lives.' Lionel is also the father to daughters Nicole and Sofia Richie. Richie explained that he considers himself 'the reluctant hero of my own story,' per People. The memoir will begin when Richie was a college student at the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama at the height of the civil rights movement, then explores his time as a member of The Commodores before taking a look at the superstardom that came his way as a solo artist in the 1980s. 'I travel the world, and all people really want to hear is, "I love you,"' Richie said in a statement. 'I love you is forever. And the day we realize we come as different tribes, but we all represent the global family of mankind … the day that happens, we will clearly be united, together, as one.' 'Lionel Richie is not only a music legend who has long been a multicultural and generational bridge, he has witnessed monumental shifts in history and entertainment while working with some of the most significant talents of our age,' Judith Curr, president and publisher of HarperOne Group, said. She added, 'We are thrilled to not only be providing his fans and friends with a nuanced, detailed, emotional telling of what his life has held, but his view of the world — what has changed and what has remained the same, the difficulties and the causes for celebration.' The Lady hitmaker will detail what he calls his 'darkest period' – his father's death, two bitter divorces and an injury to his vocal chords that nearly stripped him of his voice. He also write about how the changes in the music industry challenged him, which ultimately led him to become a judge on American Idol. 'Richie will share how he lived to tell this story – and through divine intervention, soon took off to higher heights, with one of the greatest rejuvenation stories ever told," the publisher said. Richie's memoir will be released on September 30, 2025 and is available for pre-sale now.

"Surprise! We've got another new life around the farm," she penned in the caption of a sweet snap. She showed off an adorable lamb, and she's since been sharing photos from her Nashville estate - including a full chicken coop. Carrie showed her 13.4million followers what she meant, as she photographed all the chickens standing proudly on top of the coop. It's not the first peek we've had inside Carrie's Nashville home. Earlier this month, the singer took to social media as she gave fans a behind the scenes look at her kitchen. She added: "Charlie approves" Carrie's peek at the hens comes after viewers of American Idol slammed the country music icon and former Idol winner for her reaction as Jamal Roberts was announced as this year's champion. CARRIE LOOKED 'UNHAPPY' During the live broadcast of the finale, fans noticed something odd about Carrie's body language and how she failed to stand up when Jamal crooned his song a final time after winning. Reacting to Carrie not standing up when Jamal won, one fan speculated that she might have been asked by show bosses to stand. "Not Carrie Underwood sitting down and probably being told to stand up when Jamal won," said one person on X. Another added: "Carrie underwood is not happy that Jamal won America Idol." "Carrie hating until the very end I see. CONGRATULATIONS JAMAL," penned a third. A fourth then said: "Carrie Underwood's face when Jamal won!" 5 Carrie gave a look inside her kitchen Credit: Instagram/carrieunderwood
