
Centre okays Rs 100 crore to extend MMTS from Ghatkesar to Yadagirigutta
In a letter addressed to the MP on Wednesday, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh recalled the issue raised on April 3, 2025, and clarified that the proposed 33-km third railway line between Ghatkesar and Yadadri was originally sanctioned in 2016 under the MMTS on a cost-sharing basis with the state government. However, the project could not move forward due to the non-deposit of the state's share of funds.
The estimated cost of the project remains Rs 412 crore. The latest budgetary provision of Rs 100 crore marks a significant step towards reviving the long-delayed infrastructure project, aimed at improving connectivity to the temple town of Yadagirigutta.
In a statement, MP Kiran Kumar Reddy thanked Ashwini Vaishnaw for sanctioning the funds.

On Wednesday, July 30, 2025, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed the Lok Sabha in a written reply that the construction of Rishikesh-Karnaprayag railway project is underway with the completion of 13 main line tunnels and nine escape tunnels. He also added that to increase progress of works, eight Adits have also been identified in various tunnels. 'So far, 13 main line tunnels and 9 escape tunnels have been completed. To increase progress of works, 08 Adits in various tunnels were also identified. These adits created additional work faces of tunnel excavation expediting early completion of long tunnels. Works of all 8 Adits have also been completed,' Vaishnaw said. The Union Minister further said that tunneling works of 199 km has been completed. 'Accordingly, tunneling of 199 Km against total scope of 213 Km has been completed. For the first time in Indian Railways, Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) was deployed in the Himalayan Geology for faster execution of works of longest tunnel (T-8) which is 14.8Km long. B Breakthrough of this tunnel through TBM has been achieved. Villagers block highway as private buses skip stops in Dharmapuri; RTO warns of permit cancellation
DHARMAPURI: Residents of Somanahalli and Periyampatti are distressed that private buses bypass their villages by using the national highway. Late on Tuesday, residents stopped over seven buses in Periyampatti in protest, demanding an explanation. Private buses going to Krishnagiri or Hosur have two designated routes. One runs along NH 44, where buses have to pass through Periyampatti, or another route that accesses NH 844, making a detour via Pulikarai and Palacode to reach Hosur. However, over the past year, many private buses have been failing to follow the designated route, leaving commuters stranded. On Tuesday, residents of Periyampatti waylaid over seven buses, disrupted traffic for over two and a half hours, and staged a protest blocking NH 44. A few days ago, residents of Somanahalli also staged a similar protest, blocking NH 844 by seizing two buses. Meanwhile, the Regional Transport Office has issued fines of up to Rs 1 lakh each to private buses. Speaking to TNIE, P Manivannan from Mallupatti, a retired postal employee, said, "The private buses here are crucial for labourers from the surrounding 20 villages, as most people here work in Hosur or Bengaluru. We have about five private buses arriving here daily, but since the opening of NH 844, which connects Dharmapuri-Royakottai and Hosur, the buses do not stop here. This has resulted in hundreds of labourers being left stranded and a loss of livelihood. Workers are forced to spend Rs 100 to Palacode by hiring private autos to access the nearest bus stand from where they can go for their daily wage work."

Will revive Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar project if voted to power: EPS
SIVAGANGAI/ RAMANATHAPURAM: Blaming the DMK government for stalling the Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar project initiated by the AIADMK during their regime, party General Secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami assured during his political tour at Manamadurai in Sivaganga on Wednesday that he would revive the scheme if their came to power in the upcoming elections. Addressing the gathering at an event in Thevar statue junction, Palaniswami said that the DMK government halted the Rs 16,400 crore Cauvery-Vaigai-Gundar Link project to provide surplus water for agricultural purposes because it was started during the our period, and if this project works would have continued, 60% of the work would have been completed by now. However, this scheme would be revived if the AIADMK returns to power. Slamming Chief Minister M K Stalin, he said that Stalin relies more on alliance politics than on people's mandate. He also raised concerns about the law and order situation under the DMK regime, alleging an increase in crimes such as murder, theft, and sexual harassment. Also mocking Stalin's prediction of winning over 200 seats in the 2026 assembly elections, he said, 'The AIADMK, which serves the people will win over 210 seats to form the majority government in the 2026 polls.'
