Watch: Lions highlights from the preseason matchup with Miami

Yahoo11 hours ago
The Detroit Lions opened up the home preseason docket with a visit from the Miami Dolphins. The Lions didn't play starters in the game, but it was still an important matchup for a lot of players fighting for roster spots or higher places on the Detroit depth chart.
The Dolphins prevailed in Ford Field, 24-17, when No. 3 QB Hendon Hooker threw an interception in the red zone with the Lions threatening to score with under a minute to play.
In between the barrage of penalties committed by both teams, a few Lions plays proved highlight-worthy.
The Lions got on the board with a touchdown pass from Kyle Allen to Jackson Meeks, going for it on 4th down in the Miami red zone. Check out the pass protection pick-up from No. 13, RB Craig Reynolds:
Isaac Ukwu preserved the score with a fantastic sack on Dolphins QB Zach Wilson on fourth down deep in Detroit territory. Miami risked it, and Ukwu made sure they got no biscuit...
The Lions seized the lead with a strike from Allen to rookie wideout Isaac TeSlaa. This is a very similar catch to the touchdown TeSlaa snagged a week earlier in Atlanta:
Rookie wideout Dominic Lovett cracks the highlight reel on special teams. Nice heads-up play by Lovett to recover the muffed punt (which cannot be advanced by rule):
That led to a Jake Bates field goal to put the Lions up 17-14 in the third quarter.
Earlier in the game, second-year RB Sione Vaki also made a great special teams play. Vaki extricated the ball from Dolphins punt returner Dee Eskridge. Miami recovered, but this is a great example of the special teams excellence Vaki brings to Detroit:

The Premier League returns, Isak runs away and West Ham fraudulence

Just like the Premier League, our weekly feature on the best football posts from social media is back! That said, some fans are less excited about the top flight's return than others. This prediction did not go the way this Wolves supporter had in mind. Read – Tell you what, though; Sunderland are very happy to be back in the big time right now. The early signs are not looking great for West Ham, mind you. Unfortunately, we will have to go through this season without one of the most chaotically entertaining players in the game after Liverpool sold Darwin Nunez. Liverpool are hoping to replace Darwin with Alexander Isak, who has decided to move out of Newcastle before a transfer has even been completed. Read – Hell hath no fury like a football fan whose club has sold one of their players to a rival. Everton pulled off one of the deals of the summer by signing Jack Grealish on loan. Read – The winger is following the path laid by some of the true greats of the game. It's a move that signals the Barclays is well and truly back. Surely someone at Chelsea has at the very least floated this idea? Read – The Alejandro Garnacho updates from Fabrizio Romano are just empty calories at this point. This is both nonsense and makes complete sense at the same time. So how has Gameweek 1 of Fantasy Premier League been for you so far? Read – This is some great taunting from West Brom following their win over Wrexham. That's a defeat, alright. Read – See Also – Follow The Football Faithful on Social Media: | | | |

Sure, These Comics Can Make You Laugh. But Can They Hit a Jump Shot?

It took a moment for Dan Yang to register exactly whose fist he had bumped one Sunday afternoon earlier this year. Mr. Yang, a comedian, was lacing his sneakers before his weekly pickup basketball game, nonchalantly greeting the other players as they entered the gym. He extended a pound to Ben Marshall, a writer and performer for 'Saturday Night Live,' then did the same to a newcomer in a Hawaiian shirt shuffling a few steps behind. 'But I did a double take,' Mr. Yang said, 'because it was Adam Sandler.' Whether he knew it or not, Mr. Sandler had joined these hoopers in their happy place: a musty, subterranean gym where New York's buzzing comedy scene and pickup basketball underworld collide. This weekly, invitation-only session, known simply as the Sunday Game, is populated almost entirely by professional funny people from all corners of the comedy landscape — stand-up comedians on their way up, comics past their primes and, as in the case of Mr. Sandler, industry A-listers.
