328 million e-invoices processed by LHDN so far

GEORGE TOWN: The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has validated more than 328 million e-invoices since the country began its move towards a digital tax system last year. LHDN's e-invoicing director Rasyidah Che Rosli said the numbers came from about 35,000 taxpayers who submitted their records through the new system.
Advertisement 'These are from users in Phases 1 and 2. Some smaller taxpayers have also joined voluntarily ahead of their mandatory dates,' she said, speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event by CTOS in Bayan Lepas today. LHDN is phasing in e-invoicing by company size, with Phase 1, which started on Aug 1 last year, covering large businesses with annual sales of over RM100 million. Phase 2, which started on Jan 1, covers companies with sales of between RM25 million and RM100 million. Phase 3 (RM5 million-RM25 million turnover) starts on July 1 and Phase 4 (RM1 million-RM5 million) on Jan 1, 2026. The smallest firms (below RM1 million) will come on board by July 1, 2026. The e-invoicing system, part of the government's plan to improve tax compliance and reduce fraud, is meant to help LHDN keep a better record of business deals and make it easier for taxpayers to fill in their tax forms. E-invoices, which let businesses report sales immediately or on a monthly basis, are sent in real time or in monthly groups. SEPANG: The government can consider another one-off RM100 payment for students to cope with rising costs, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The Prime Minister and Finance Minister said the request will be weighed during preparations for next year's budget. He was responding to a Multimedia University student who asked for a repeat of the RM100 one-off aid given earlier this year. 'We can take this into consideration in the budget,' Anwar said during a dialogue at the university in Cyberjaya yesterday. He said prices of fuel, noodles, chicken, eggs and sugar in Malaysia remain lower than in many countries, and added that the cost of living is a constant concern and the government is working to address it alongside poverty eradication. Anwar said that student aid must be balanced with other societal needs. 'I accept this request and we will consider it in next year's budget,' he said. He added that flood mitigation in Kelantan also requires funding, Johor seeks high value industries while Kedah faces grinding poverty. Anwar added that requests for assistance arise everywhere and the government will provide what it can. He said the recent civil service pay review prioritised the lowest grades. 'That is why we did not raise the salaries of ministers and deputy ministers,' he added. He said better governance and anti-corruption efforts will free up more funds for the people. 'Recently, enforcement agencies seized between RM4bil to RM5bil from corrupt and misappropriated funds,' he said. Anwar then said that these funds can be returned to the people.

2026 Budget: RM250m sought for national unity initiatives, tax breaks proposed
KUALA LUMPUR: The National Unity Ministry mooted a RM250 million allocation under Budget 2026 for five key initiatives to boost community development and foster national unity. Its minister, Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang, also suggested that the Finance Ministry and the Inland Revenue Board (IRB) consider tax relief schemes for companies that host unity programmes at the community level. "These suggestions are to encourage strategic partnerships to strengthen national unity. "We will also propose increasing allocations for the Neighbourhood Watch Areas (KRT) from RM6,000 to RM10,000 annually," he said in his speech during the ministry's 2026 Budget dialogue session with over 100 stakeholders. He proposed that RM100 million would be allocated for unity, volunteering and boosting the national spirit, and another RM100 million towards harmony and welfare to create more progressive Neighbourhood Watch programmes. He also said that the ministry plans to request RM10 million to acquire and preserve historical items for the coming generations.
