Glynllifon students honoured for success at annual Prize Day
This year, Winston Evans clinched the prestigious Glynllifon Student of the Year title, walking away with the Cwpan Goffa John Tudor CBE.
He was also the winner of the Level 2 Agriculture course.
Farm, Forestry and Innovation Manager, Rhodri Owen, praised Winston's 'total dedication and enthusiasm,' adding that he 'excelled' in all areas of work and had 'strong potential for success in the future.'
Mr Owen added: "He is a true individual who is ready to work in all weathers, and farm staff are extremely grateful for the hard work he has done over the past year."
Winston is set to return to Glynllifon in September to further his studies in Level 3 Agriculture.
Other notable winners at the ceremony included Will Aaron Lloyd, who was awarded the 'Special Contribution' Madryn Glynllifon Alumni Cup, and Mark Webster who was named Welsh Baccalaureate Learner of the Year.
A special presentation was made to Glynllifon's rugby team, who won the North Wales under-18s Cup, beating Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor 38-7 in the final.
Team captain Huw Watkins accepted the cup on behalf of the team who also finished second in the inaugural Welsh Agricultural Colleges competition in Aberystwyth earlier in the season.
The guest speaker of the day, former president of the Farmers' Union of Wales, Glyn Roberts, handed out the prizes.
Rhys Jones director of sponsors OBR Construction said: "It is fantastic to see so many learners going on to further study or moving on into work."

US appeals court revives antitrust lawsuit over Puerto Rican baseball league
July 22 (Reuters) - Puerto Rico's top baseball league must face claims that it conspired to suppress competition in the popular sport on the island, home to many current and former stars of Major League Baseball, a federal appeals court ruled. The 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in a ruling, opens new tab on Monday revived part of a lawsuit that was filed in 2022 against the league and others by a former owner-operator of a franchise in Puerto Rico's professional baseball league, Liga de Béisbol Profesional de Puerto Rico. The Boston-based appeals court, which hears federal cases from Puerto Rico, said that former owner Thomas Axon could pursue a narrowed antitrust and civil rights lawsuit against the league and others. The appeals court upheld the dismissal of U.S. federal antitrust claims, but allowed antitrust and fair competition claims under Puerto Rican laws. In a statement, Winston & Strawn's Jeffrey Kessler, a lead attorney for the plaintiffs, welcomed the 1st Circuit's order allowing the case to proceed and said they were weighing their options over the dismissal of the federal antitrust allegations. Francisco Colón-Ramírez, a lawyer for the baseball league, did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Axon in the lawsuit said rival teams had worked to block his efforts in 2019 to restore his franchise through major new broadcast initiatives, better salaries, enhanced sponsorships and expanded merchandising. He alleged that the baseball league seized his investor-operator interest without compensation or due process, and moved to box him out of the league. The league and other defendants have denied any wrongdoing. In dismissing the lawsuit, U.S. District Judge William Young in 2023 pointed to the 'baseball exemption' of federal antitrust law. The U.S. Supreme Court in a 1922 case concluded antitrust law does not apply to the business of baseball. In the latest in a string of legal challenges involving the baseball exemption, Axon's lawyers argued it only applies to Major League Baseball and its direct affiliates, and not to the Puerto Rican league. Young disagreed. The 1st Circuit panel — Chief Judge Barron, joined by Circuit Judges O. Rogeriee Thompson and Gustavo Gelpí — suggested the exemption is out of touch with the modern realities of baseball. But the Supreme Court, the panel said, has declined so far to overrule it. Coleg Glynllifon win North Wales Under-18 Rugby Cup
Glynllifon were crowned North Wales Cup champions after beating Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor 38-7 in the final, while Coleg Menai reached the final of the North Wales Bowl. Mr Coles, rugby engagement officer, said: "I'm incredibly proud of the performances of the Grŵp Llandrillo Menai teams in the North Wales Cup and Bowl this year. "A huge amount of work has gone on in the background, and to have Coleg Menai competing in the Bowl final whilst Coleg Glynllifon and Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor went head to head in the Cup final is testament to this. "The engagement from the players across the Grŵp has been excellent, with some fantastic rugby played throughout the year. "The programme has added significant benefits both to our learners but also to North Wales U18 rugby as a whole. "Congratulations to Coleg Glynllifon as deserved winners and U18 North Wales Champions." The cup final took place in Dolgellau on a sunny day, with Glynllifon starting strongly and building an early lead. Tries from Bedo Jones, captain Huw Watkins, and Robert Meurig Jones, all converted by Jones, put Glynllifon firmly in control. Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor responded with a try from Joseph Wall, converted by Euros Williams, captain, but Glynllifon continued to dominate after the break. Further tries from Elis Anderson and Robat Jones, both converted by Bedo Jones, along with a penalty kick, sealed the 38-7 victory. Huw Watkins, captain of Glynllifon, said: "It was a brilliant season. "Everyone was very committed and played with a lot of heart. "I enjoyed playing with my mates, and winning the North Wales Cup." Euros Williams, Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor's captain, said: "Overall it was a good season with the college. "We gave some good performances but struggled to maintain our main and strongest team, but we never let the college down. "We played with a lot against us in the final with not our strongest team out, but everyone showed heart and courage to finish the game." Glynllifon's cup win capped a strong year that began with a second-place finish at the inaugural Welsh Agri-Colleges 10s tournament in Aberystwyth. Their cup campaign saw victories over Ysgol Syr Hugh Owen, Ysgol Brynrefail, and Ysgol Tryfan, earning them a home semi-final. A walkover in the semi-final, after Ysgol Eirias conceded, sent them into the final, where they secured the title. Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor also impressed, notching wins over Ysgol Dinas Bran and Ysgol Bro Caereinion before a narrow defeat to Ysgol Godre'r Berwyn. In the semi-final against the same opponents, a drawn result meant Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor progressed to the final as the away side.
