fans are ready to celebrate August's 'salt air' with a special track. Across her decades-long career, the pop sensation has captured notable dates, seasons, and months in her lyrics. So, let's explore how she immortalized the eighth month of the year with her iconic words, 'salt air, and the rust on your door.'
Fans trend 'Taylor Swift Salt Air' as August begins
Since Taylor Swift released 'Folklore' in 2020, fans have embraced August with the song of the same name. The track's wistful nostalgia resonated instantly with fans as they praised the 35-year-old's evocative lyrics: 'Salt air, and the rust on your door / I never needed anything more / Whispers of, 'Are you sure?' 'Never have I ever before.''
Every year, Swifties commemorate the beginning of August using the song or the lyrics in their social media posts. While gushing over the track's emotional appeal, a fan explained how everyone collectively fell in love with the sentimental lyrics.
The fan posted on Reddit, 'It's ('August') just SO transcendental…lyrically, musically, vocally, production-wise… all of it. My favorite of the love triangle songs.' The user noted that 'the beautiful vocals over the ethereal instrumentals' make the song all the more enchanting.
For the unversed, the 'Cruel Summer' singer wrote her first pandemic album, 'Folklore,' from a fictional point of view. Listeners have identified three main characters in the project. So, various songs of the album depict the characters' perspectives and feelings.
In 'August,' Swift features a narrator who was mesmerized by her summer fling, knowing very well that the romance might not have a happily ever after. Fans opine that the song's portrayal of 'relatable' pain made it resonate with millions of listeners.
Another fan further stated that the track 'feels like the month of August, the fun of summer slipping away, blissful and temporary relationships, and the threat of real life around the corner.'
In other news, August for Taylor Swift fans could be more than just a nostalgic month in 2025. Many Swifties are convinced that an announcement regarding TS 12, which will be the pop star's 12th studio album, will be dropping soon.
The singer has reportedly shot a new music video in Los Angeles recently. She has also been dropping subtle Easter eggs, using words like I and D twelve times in her recent Instagram stories.

Taylor Swift gets VMA nomination for artist of the year. See her competition

Despite not releasing any new music in the past year, pop superstar Taylor Swift has clinched a nomination for MTV's Video Music Awards. And it's artist of the year. The singer has some fierce competition: Bad Bunny, Beyoncé, Kendrick Lamar, Morgan Wallen, The Weeknd and Lady Gaga, who leads the pack with 12 total nominations. Last year, Swift took home seven VMAs, pushing her career total to a record-setting 30. Though he didn't attend the New York award show, she thanked boyfriend Travis Kelce for his support. "When I'd finish a take, I'd always hear someone cheering from across the studio," she said during her acceptance speech when "Fortnight" was crowned video of the year. "Everything this man touches turns to happiness and fun and magic." Swift wore a plaid corset and skirt by Dior, thigh-high boots and fingerless gloves that stretched past her elbows. She later swapped outfits, stepping into a custom bejeweled Monse minidress featuring a spaceship on the front in a possible nod to her song "Down Bad," which compares love bombing to being abducted by aliens. When are the VMAs? The VMAs will be broadcast live from New York's UBS Arena at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT Sept. 7 on CBS and Paramount+. Fans can vote in 19 categories by visiting Repeating history Swift's relationship with the VMAs is as glittering as it is dramatic, spanning more than 15 years of wins, performances and pop culture flashpoints. Her first nomination came in 2008 for "Our Song." A year later, she earned her first Moon Person for "You Belong With Me" — a moment famously interrupted by Kanye West. Swift had just begun her acceptance speech when West stormed the stage, declaring, "Yo, Taylor, I'm really happy for you, I'ma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time." The moment became an instant cultural inflection point. That same night, Swift delivered a poised performance of "You Belong With Me" outside Radio City Music Hall. In 2010, she returned to the VMA stage with "Innocent," a poignant ballad she later confirmed in New York Magazine was written about West. She performed "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together" in 2012. Two years later, she debuted her "1989" era with a high-energy rendition of "Shake It Off." When her dancers encouraged her to jump from a platform mid-performance, she quipped, "I don't care if it's the VMAs, I'm not jumping off there. People are getting bit by snakes — it's dangerous." In 2015, Swift performed "Bad Blood" in a mashup with Nicki Minaj after a brief public feud, hinting at reconciliation. That same night, she presented West with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award, a gesture that appeared to close the loop on their rocky history. But just a year later, their relationship fractured again after West released "Famous," including the line, "I feel like me and Taylor might still have sex. Why? I made that b**** famous." Swift denied approving the song. Kim Kardashian, then West's wife, released edited videos on Snapchat that painted Swift as dishonest, a narrative that years later was disproven when the full footage revealed Swift was telling the truth all along. In 2017, Swift premiered the snake-laced, Easter egg-heavy music video for "Look What You Made Me Do." She returned to the stage in 2019 with a technicolor performance of "You Need to Calm Down" and "Lover." At the 2022 VMAs, Swift celebrated the 13th anniversary of her first win by announcing her next album, "Midnights." She stunned in a sparkling Oscar de la Renta gown and later took home the award for video of the year, her third in that category. Feeling nostalgic? 24/7 music videos return to MTV ahead of the 2025 VMAs In 2023, she ruled the red carpet in a black Versace gown with gold accents and a thigh-high slit. Throughout the night, the cameras cut to the singer-songwriter dancing in the crowd with "Karma" collaborator Ice Spice. NSYNC reunited on stage to present her with the best pop video award for "Anti-Hero." Don't miss any Taylor Swift news; sign up for the free, weekly newsletter This Swift Beat. MTV Video Music Awards are back: See who made the nominations list

The 2025 VMAs are shaping up to be a night of musical "Mayhem." MTV revealed the nominees for its annual Video Music Awards show, a poptastic spectacle that brings together the biggest artists of the year to celebrate the top songs and music videos chosen by fans. This year's ceremony will air live from New York's UBS Arena on Sept. 7 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS. Pop icon Lady Gaga, who roared back to music this spring with her acclaimed album "Mayhem," leads the nominations with 12 nods, including video of the year, artist of the year and best album. Gaga's "Die with a Smile" collaborator Bruno Mars follows closely behind with 11 nominations. Other top nominees include hip-hop juggernaut Kendrick Lamar, Blackpink singer Rosé, pop princess Sabrina Carpenter, "Wicked" star Ariana Grande, R&B crooner The Weeknd, alternative pop singer Billie Eilish and British pop star Charli XCX. VMAs 2024 winners: Taylor Swift has a big night as Chappell Roan wins best new artist Pop titan Taylor Swift, the most decorated solo artist in VMAs history, also nabbed a nomination for artist of the year, despite having not released a new music video this year. In 2024, Swift took home a slew of prizes including video of the year, artist of the year, best collaboration ("Fortnight" with Post Malone), best pop and best direction. Last year's VMAs were filled with career milestones and knockout performances. Electropop songstress Chappell Roan was crowned best new artist and dominated the stage with a medieval-themed number set to her breakout hit "Good Luck, Babe!" Meanwhile, Carpenter won her first moon person for song of the year ("Espresso") and performed a cheeky medley number that saw her lock lips with an alien dancer. Fans can vote in 19 gender-neutral categories by visiting through Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. ET. Voting for best new artist will remain active into the Sept. 7 ceremony. Nominations for social categories will be announced at a later date. MTV VMAs snubs: Lisa collaborations with Rosalía and Tyla should have been nominated

The MTV Video Music Award nominations are out, in a comprehensive list featuring 33 first-time nominees. Not many artists will have something to complain about. Pop juggernauts Taylor Swift and Beyoncé were both nominated for artist of the year, despite not releasing any music videos during the eligibility period from June 20, 2024, to June 18, 2025. And Bruno Mars received 11 nominations, the second most behind Lady Gaga, and they're all for collaborations he did for other artists. However a few standouts in music videos couldn't seem to get on the award show's radar. "All The Way," a cross-genre track from rap breakout BigXthaPlug and rising country singer Bailey Zimmerman, got no love despite standing at over 32 million views. The same goes for R&B songstress Mariah the Scientist, whose breakout hit "Burning Blue" stands at 21 million views notched in the three months since its release. Here are the most notable snubs for the 2025 MTV VMAs, which will air live at 8 p.m. Sept. 7 from New York's UBS Arena. Lisa featuring Rosalía 'New Woman' and Lisa featuring Tyla 'When I'm with You' Lisa boasts a nomination at this year's award show for her Doja Cat and Raye collaboration "Born Again." But the Blackpink star only managed to receive one nomination in the best K-pop category despite several hit videos, including two that could have at least gotten a mention in the best collaboration conversation: "New Woman" with Spanish sensation Rosalía and "When I'm with You" with South African star Tyla. "New Woman" brought together two major women in music for a high-concept video debuting with more than 40 million views in its first week. "When I'm with You," with its sensual, dance-heavy treatment, also did extraordinarily well on views, at upwards of 21 million. Given the praise for Rosé and Bruno Mars megahit "Apt.," it appears the category only had room for one Blackpink breakout. More: Taylor Swift gets VMA nomination for artist of the year. See her competition The Weeknd 'Dancing in the Flames' The Weeknd is not hurting for nominations, but hear us out. Yes, his Playboi Carti-assisted hit "Timeless" received three nominations, including video and song of the year, and "Hurry Up Tomorrow" got a nomination for best long-form video. But that leaves another hit from this album, "Dancing in the Flames," without any love, despite a dramatic video treatment that sees the crooner get hit by a semitruck and miraculously recover. The video was heavily noted as being shot on the iPhone 16 Pro and has 70 million views on YouTube. Kesha 'Boy Crazy' and 'Joyride' Kesha is in her comeback era, but MTV has yet to welcome her back with open arms. Though the "Die Young" hitmaker just released the provocative self-directed treatment for "Boy Crazy" in June to modest viewership, the video has been widely shared on social media for its feminist message. The video follows the buzz around "Joyride," released in November 2024, another campy, action-packed video featuring gunfire and a car-track-helicopter chase through the desert, which also flew under the radar.
