Centre announces Rs 1,490 support price for Totapuri mango farmers
The move comes as a major relief to mango growers who were struggling due to a price crash caused by a bumper harvest. With mango pulp factories offering low prices, farmers were unable to recover their costs. In response, state agriculture minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu undertook an extensive tour of Chittoor district, met farmers and factory representatives, and swiftly raised the issue with chief minister Chandrababu Naidu.
Acting promptly, Naidu directed that mangoes be procured at 8 per kg by pulp factories, and the govt would provide a 4/kg subsidy, ensuring farmers received a total of 12 per kg.
Taking it further, minister Atchannaidu visited Union agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in Delhi to seek support. His efforts bore fruit with the Centre's announcement on Tuesday.
"This is a historic step. No other state has given such a high subsidy. We've ensured that farmers are not pushed into losses," said Atchannaidu, thanking the CM and the Union govt for their timely support. Totapuri mango farmers have expressed gratitude to the state govt, calling the move a lifeline in a tough year.

State govt. yet to submit proposal for IIMPs, says Union Minister
The Kerala government has not yet submitted the proposal for the Integrated Island Management Plans (IIMPs) as per the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) Notification 2019, according to Union Minister of State for Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Kirti Vardhan Singh. He was replying to Ernakulam MP Hibi Eden's question in the Lok Sabha on whether the Centre proposed to implement IIMPs to meet the unique environmental and infrastructure needs of island communities in Ernakulam, thus enhancing their quality of life and safeguarding their ecosystem. Mr. Singh said that the Ministry had approved the Coastal Zone Management Plans (CZMPs) for all coastal districts, including Ernakulam, through a letter dated October 16, 2024. IIMPs are prepared as per the CRZ Notification 2019 and are approved based on the proposal received from the State government. The Government of Kerala is yet to submit the IIMP proposal, he said. The MP had asked whether the government had plans to consider reassessing 13 excluded panchayats in Ernakulam for CRZ-II classification, given their urban-like characteristics and the essential development needs of their residents. It included Alangad, Chendamangalam, Chittattukara, Ezhikkara, Kadungalloor, Karumaloor, Kottuvally, Kunnukara, Puthenvelikkara, Udayamperoor, Vadakkekkara, Kuzhuppilly, and Pallippuram. The Minister said that the CZMP of Kerala was approved by the Ministry through a letter dated October 16, 2024, based on the recommendation of the technical scrutiny committee meeting held on March 1, 2024, and the recommendations of the National Coastal Zone Management Authority at its 47th meeting held on September 23, 2024. Thereafter, the Ministry has not received any further proposal to date for the inclusion of remaining panchayats in Category-II of the CRZ classification, he said.

Nagaland Cabinet to discuss Centre's directive on creation of frontier territory: Minister
The Nagaland government will hold a cabinet-level meeting on Wednesday (July 30, 2025) to deliberate on the Centre's directive to resolve pending issues related to the demand for creation of Frontier Nagaland Territory, Deputy Chief Minister Yanthungo Patton said. The development follows the third Tripartite High-Level Committee meeting held on July 23 in New Delhi, attended by officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), the Nagaland government, and representatives of the Eastern Nagaland People's Organisation (ENPO), which has been demanding separate statehood since 2010. 'We have a cabinet meeting tomorrow, and we will discuss the matter there. We shall also discuss with the ENPO leaders tomorrow,' Mr. Patton told reporters here on the sidelines of an official programme. During the New Delhi meeting, several contentious issues were reportedly resolved, barring a few pending ones from the Nagaland government side, ENPO had said in a statement on July 25. The Centre subsequently directed the state government to resolve the pending issues within a fortnight, it said. ENPO, the apex organisation representing eight tribes across six districts – Mon, Tuensang, Longleng, Kiphire, Noklak, and Shamator – has been demanding separate statehood since 2010, citing 'decades of neglect in governance and development'. In April, the organisation had announced a temporary suspension of its statehood demand and agreed to the Centre's proposal for a certain degree of autonomy under the Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) framework.
