Birla highlights India's resilient growth at BRICS Parl Forum
Brasilia: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday reiterated India's strong support for a fair and rule-based global trading system — one that genuinely addresses the needs and aspirations of the Global South — at 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brasilia. Addressing the working session on 'BRICS Parliamentary Action in Search of New Paths for Economic Development', Birla appreciated the Parliament of Brazil for successfully organising the event and thanked them for their hospitality.
'Today, the BRICS group has emerged as a formidable force in the global economic landscape. It represents nearly 45 per cent of the population and contributes 40 per cent to the global GDP based on the purchasing power parity. Despite global challenges, BRICS nations have made inspiring progress in the realm of economic development. India believes that to further strengthen this progress, we must enhance trade investment and financial cooperation,' he said.
'We are concerned that representation of developing countries in key international institutions, and such imbalances hinder global equity and sustainable development. Therefore, BRICS countries must collectively make concrete efforts to enhance participation in such institutions,' Birla added.

Bhopal: Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Saturday reiterated complete support and cooperation to Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, saying he believes that his successor would do a better job than him for the growth of the state. Shivraj Singh Chouhan, a former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister, made this statement while addressing a programme in his home district Sehore. CM Mohan Yadav was the chief guest in the programme. "I am not the one who would say I have done this and that. I will be happier if Mohan Yadav do better than me for the people of Madhya Pradesh," Shivraj Singh Chouhan said while addressing a public rally in Sehore. Meanwhile, he also mentioned that his padyatra carried out in his hometown Budhni was presented in a 'wrong way'. He said that some mediapersons had made assessments on their own. "But, let me make it clear that the party's instructions are important. Mohan Yadav is Chief Minister, and I am Union Agriculture Minister," he said. Speaking further, Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that being a public representative, he must come to visit the people of his constituency, and it should not be interpreted otherwise. "But some mediapersons tried to speculate that in another way which was totally wrong," the Union Minister said. During his speech, which lasted nearly 20 minutes, Shivraj Singh Chouhan sounded critical of the media a few times, asserting that his Budhni Padyatra was presented in a wrong way, whereas he was committed to follow the party's instructions. He was referring to a two-day 'Viksit Bharat Sankalp Padyatra' in the Vidisha constituency which was organised in May to highlight the welfare schemes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government. Along with many of his supporters, his family members including son and daughter-in-law had also participated on the second day of padyatra. However, according to sources, within the party, Shivraj Singh Chouhan's march was perceived as his personal endeavour to stay connected with his Lok Sabha constituency and the state where he was Chief Minister for more than 16 years.

Rahul Gandhi alleges 'match-fixing' in Maha polls, says Bihar will be next
New Delhi, June 7 (UNI) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has alleged that the 2024 Maharashtra polls were "rigged" and serve as a "blueprint for rigging democracy", and added that the same "match-fixing will come to Bihar next". Tagging an article written by himself, titled 'Match-fixing Maharashtra', in an English Daily, the former Congress president on X said, "How to steal an election? Maharashtra assembly elections in 2024 were a blueprint for rigging democracy". Giving "step by step" account of his claim, Gandhi said, "First rig the panel for appointing the Election Commission then add fake voters to the roll, inflate voter turnout and target the bogus voting exactly where BJP needs to win and then hide the evidence". He further said, "It's not hard to see why the BJP was so desperate in Maharashtra. But rigging is like match-fixing - the side that cheats might win the game, but damages institutions and destroy public faith in the result". Urging the people to examine the evidence and demand answers, Rahul Gandhi said, "All concerned Indians must see the evidence. Judge for themselves. Demand answers". Gandhi also alleged that like Maharashtra, Bihar too will see the same "match-fixing" in the upcoming state elections, due later this year. India to host BRICS Summit in 2026; forum
Brasilia [Brazil], June 7 (ANI): India will host the next BRICS Parliamentary Forum in 2026, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla announced at the conclusion of the 11th BRICS Parliamentary Forum in Brasilia, where member nations, in a joint declaration, also strongly condemned the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, and called for a 'collectively' global approach with a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism. The Lok Sabha Speaker, during his statement, also highlighted the commitment of BRICS nations to work together on other key issues such as artificial intelligence, economic cooperation, and parliamentary collaboration as well. Birla expressed gratitude to Brazil's Parliament, government, and people for hosting the summit and said, 'The agenda will be set for the Summit in India, and India will ensure a successful and productive hosting of the event.' 'In this final declaration, BRICS countries agreed that we must fight terrorism collectively. They condemned the terrorist incident that took place on April 22 in Pahalgam, Kashmir, India, and emphasised the need to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism through joint efforts. The Hon'ble Prime Minister of India has also called upon all countries of the world to adopt a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism,' Birla added in his statement. On the use of Artificial Intelligence, Birla stated, 'It was agreed that AI must be used, and it is indeed essential. But there must also be transparency and accountability in its use.' Discussions also focused on economic inclusion and ways to enhance trade and cooperation among BRICS nations. Birla reaffirmed India's support for the rule of law, global cooperation, and dialogue on the world stage. He thanked all BRICS nations and expressed confidence that through joint efforts, parliamentary exchanges, and sharing of best practices, meaningful changes can be brought to citizens' lives. 'The ten BRICS countries represented in this year's forum were: India, Brazil, Russia, China, South Africa, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Indonesia. Delegations from the parliaments of these countries actively participated in the conference and played a key role in shaping the joint declaration,' an earlier statement from the Lok Sabha Secretariat said. The Indian delegation to the BRICS Parliamentary Forum was led by Birla and included Deputy Chairperson of Rajya Sabha Harivansh, Rajya Sabha MP Surendra Singh Nagar, Lok Sabha MPs Vijay Baghel, Vivek Thakur, Shabari Bareddy, Lok Sabha Secretary General Uttpal Kumar Singh, Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Modi, and senior officials of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
