"The Last Of Us" Included A Stunning Performance From Isabela Merced This Week, And Everyone Has The Same Perfect Reactions

Buzz Feed05-05-2025

🚨 There are massive — and I mean MASSIVE — spoilers ahead for The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 4! 🚨
Hi. Yes. Hello. The Last of Us began its journey into Seattle this week with Season 2, Episode 4 — titled "Day One," directed by Kate Herron and written by Craig Mazin — which notably featured some of the biggest developments for Ellie (Bella Ramsey) and Dina's (Isabela Merced) relationship.
After arriving in Seattle, Ellie and Dina start out trying to find Abby (Kaitlyn Dever) and her friends. Looking around and staying clear of the W.L.F. leads to one of the most beloved game moments when Ellie and Dina hide out in a music store, and Ellie plays her "Take on Me."
And while that moment is jaw-droppingly beautiful, the episode quickly shifts to some of the most anxiety-inducing moments so far this season, when Ellie and Dina come across a bunch of dead W.L.F bodies, whom they think have been killed by the Seraphites, and they must escape the W.L.F who chase them deep into the underground transit system of Seattle where there is a hoard of infected waiting for them.
It's here that Dina and Ellie's relationship is truly tested when Ellie gets bit in order to save Dina's life, which launches us into arguably one of the best moments of the entire season, when Dina learns that Ellie is immune.
And in an incredible departure from the game, this is where Dina and Ellie FINALLY get together, with Dina revealing that she's pregnant — yeah, it's very much stressful all around now — before her and Ellie have sex for the first time and she reveals that she loves Ellie.
Oh, and on top of all of this, Jeffrey Wright makes his long-awaited debut as Isaac, who he also played in The Last of Us Part II.
So, naturally, fans — like me — took to Twitter to voice their opinions over this latest episode, make some incredible jokes, and give A+ commentary about "Day One." So, here are some of the best tweets about The Last of Us Season 2, Episode 4:

Advertisement 'I couldn't believe it,' Arnold began. 'I said to myself, 'I'm watching your show, and I'm watching your butt sticking out there.' And all of a sudden, I see the weenie.' 'What is going on here? This is crazy,' he continued. 'Then I said to myself, 'Well, Arnold, hello. You did the same thing in 'Conan' and 'Terminator,' so don't complain about it.' But it was a shock to me that you were following in my footsteps so closely.' 9 Patrick Schwarzenegger as Saxon Ratliff in Season 3 of 'The White Lotus.' HBO Advertisement Patrick, who portrayed privileged finance bro Saxon Ratliff in Season 3 of 'The White Lotus,' got naked in the very first episode of the season. He previously discussed watching the scene with his famous family, including his mom, Maria Shriver, and how his divorced parents had 'different reactions to seeing me completely nude.' 'My dad thought it was hilarious,' the 'Gen V' actor told 'Today' in March. 'My mom didn't even really understand what was happening.' 9 Patrick portrayed privileged finance bro Saxon Ratliff on Season 3 of 'The White Lotus.' HBO Advertisement Arnold previously commented on his son's 'White Lotus' nude scene in February shortly after attending the Mike White-created show's Season 3 premiere. 'I could claim to be surprised to find out he has a nude scene,' the 'Conan' star wrote on Instagram at the time, 'but what can I say – the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.' Elsewhere in the father-son duo's 'Actors on Actors' interview, Patrick discussed navigating Hollywood as a nepo baby. 9 Patrick also discussed navigating Hollywood as a nepo baby during the 'Actors on Actors' interview with his famous father. 'Mike was worried about, if he cast me, what other people would think,' he continued. 'Which they did – they did care about that; people said I got the role because of you and mom.' The 'Scream Queens' star then revealed that he considered using a stage name early in his career to distance himself from his celebrity parents. 9 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree,' the 'Conan' star previously said of his son's 'White Lotus' nude scene. Peggy Sirota for Variety Advertisement 'There were times earlier in my career where I was wondering, does it make sense to go under an alias?' Patrick said. 'It took a while for me to get to a point where I was less worried about living in your shadow versus wanting to do it the way I thought I should do it.' Later in the interview, Patrick said it 'makes sense' that he would follow the same career path as his well-known father. 'We talked about this idea of nepotism,' he said, 'but when you grow up and your parents do a specific job, it makes sense that you go and work in that world.' 9 Patrick said that it 'makes sense' that he would follow the same career path as his famous father. Peggy Sirota for Variety Advertisement Arnold agreed and added that his breakout star son 'never asked' him to do anything that would give him a leg up in Hollywood. 'You have never asked me to call a studio or to call an agent,' the 'Batman & Robin' star revealed. 'You never asked me for advice when it comes to acting itself.' 'You're a rare breed,' Arnold concluded, 'and I'm very, very proud of you.' Besides Patrick, Arnold and Shriver also share children Christopher, 27, Christina, 33, and Katherine, 35. ‘The Gilded Age' Season 3 Trailer: A New Generation Rises as Carrie Coon Tries to Secure Her Status in High Society

'The Gilded Age' is ushering in a new era. The third season of the beloved HBO series marks the start of Bertha's (Carrie Coon) reign. She already has secured her status as the patron saint of the Metropolitan Opera: Can she now have the approval of the old money elites? The Season 3 logline reads: 'Following the Opera War, the old guard is weakened and the Russells stand poised to take their place at the head of society. Bertha sets her sights on a prize that would elevate the family to unimaginable heights while George risks everything on a gambit that could revolutionize the railroad industry — if it doesn't ruin him first. Across the street, the Brook household is thrown into chaos as Agnes refuses to accept Ada's new position as lady of the house. Peggy meets a handsome doctor from Newport whose family is less than enthusiastic about her career. As all of New York hastens toward the future, their ambition may come at the cost of what they truly hold dear.' David Gauvey Herbert Reveals ‘Ren Faire' Director Lance Oppenheim's Disarming Methods

On June 5, the IndieWire Honors Spring 2025 ceremony will celebrate the creators and stars responsible for some of the most impressive and engaging work of this TV season. Curated and selected by IndieWire's editorial team, IndieWire Honors is a celebration of the creators, artisans, and performers behind television well worth toasting. In the days leading up to the event, IndieWire is showcasing their work with new interviews and tributes from their peers. Ahead, journalist and 'Ren Faire' executive producer David Gauvey Herbert shares the story of his first meeting with Magnify Award winner Lance Oppenheim, and what he observed working alongside him on their critically acclaimed HBO three-part docu-drama. More from IndieWire The Cast and Crew of 'St. Denis Medical' Found Joy and Warmth in the Show's Hospital Setting 'The Gilded Age' Season 3 Trailer: A New Generation Rises as Carrie Coon Tries to Secure Her Status in High Society Several years ago, after a brief Zoom courtship, I met Lance at Frank's Wine Bar in Carroll Gardens and ordered him his first-ever martini. The waitress considered carding him, but then took me, I think, for a responsible, much older brother. 'Oh wowww,' he said upon tasting the cold gin, but in a pitch better suited to a young couple entering a roomy master bathroom on 'House Hunters.' I was taken with his charms and talent, and I soon pitched him on a succession crisis at America's largest Renaissance festival, just outside Houston, Texas. But on set, with prospective subjects, this endearing young ingenue became a bumbling neurotic. It was maddening to watch. He overshared about his ex-girlfriend, his Florida home, his internet addictions. 'Put these people at ease!' I wanted to yell. 'Stop acting like you're in therapy.' But I was coming from print magazines, and I hadn't yet encountered the Lance Method. This wasn't journalism, it was jiu jitsu. He pressed and pulled until he found a way to drop you onto his sweaty mat, and forced you to surrender to his impish charisma and good nature. A popcorn vendor would enter a three-minute conversation with Lance, and then blink to find he'd just finished a three-year collaboration. Lance ran the set with this same inverted logic. The crew wasn't a crew. It was a writer's room, a chaotic docu-democracy that resulted in long days, frayed nerves — and a profound devotion to the work. They labored through 110-degree heat, a scurvy-inducing lack of fresh produce, and an Airbnb owner who responded to complaints about a fishy fridge by showing up with a rifle. Lance's ability to foster this collective fellowship — bordering on collective insanity — would have served him well in Jonestown. We're lucky to have him in Hollywood instead. I may have introduced him to martinis and, later, his wife, but Lance returns favors. He's criminally generous with his Rolodex. But mostly, he nudges me to think bigger. It was 1 a.m. and still a million degrees in Grimes County, Texas. I was grousing about the time, the many hours we'd put in that day, my feet. 'If we're not pushing past our limits,' he asked, 'then what are we doing?' In an industry that can walk in endless circles of mediocrity, Lance has his compass set in a different direction. I'm grateful to have marched alongside him.
