Cynthia Nixon loves playing 'juicy characters'

Cynthia Nixon feels she's able to "show so many more colours" in her characters at her age.
The 59-year-old actress is best known for portraying Miranda Hobbes in the Sex and the City series, films and spin-off series And Just Like That..., while she also stars as Ada Brook in hit historical drama The Gilded Age.
Cynthia admits she loves getting her teeth into "juicy characters" and prefers playing those who aren't "always nice".
She told Best UK magazine: "It has always been the same, just very juicy characters.
"I love characters who aren't always nice or who don't always do the right thing.
"I'm excited to be at an age where I feel I am being allowed to show so many more colours and have so many more strings in my bow.
"The characters I am playing now are so different from what I have done before. The rest is about who I'm excited to work with, be directed by and what writers are creating the character and the story."
Cynthia insists it's only "10 per cent curse" that some people will only ever associate her with Miranda.
She explained: "It's a tremendous blessing.
"I am so proud of the show, the films and everything else. I love that people are still watching and that new people are discovering it.
"Miranda gave me so many opportunities. She opened doors for me that never would have been open had it not been for that role.
"The only real downside is if people only think of me as that character, but I have been lucky to be offered different kinds of roles.
Asked if it's at all frustrating, she replied: "No, 90 per cent per cent blessing and 10 per cent curse maybe [laughs]. I am so proud of Miranda, the shows and the films."

Kyle MacLachlan 'would love' to appear in And Just Like That

Kyle MacLachlan "would love" to appear in And Just Like That. The 66-year-old actor portrayed Charlotte York's ex-husband Trey MacDougal in Sex and the City but he turned down an initial approach to come back for the spin-off show because he felt there should be "more" than what the writers pitched. He told Us Weekly magazine: 'Listen, I would love to come back and have fun. 'And what they suggested to me, I said, 'I think there should be more. So I just said, 'I wonder, if the relationship that Charlotte and Trey had demands a little more than their first idea.' " While Kyle - who has his own wine company, Pursued by Bear - didn't give any detail as to what a potential return would have involved, he thinks Trey would be going through a "very interesting" time in his life now. He said: 'It'd be very interesting. I had suggested that Trey has maybe moved to Napa and has a very successful winery and label there — you can see where I'm going with this. "But no, I actually haven't said anything yet. Regardless. The show's doing great. They're all lovely. And I adore them.' While there are no current plans for an appearance in And Just Like That, the former Twin Peaks star is busy working on a new podcast. He said: 'I have a podcast that's going to be dropping in September called 'What Are We Even Doing?' 'I'm interviewing young creatives and getting to know their world, basically, and the creative process that's important to them, how they use social media and coming at it from [the] perspective of an old guy.' Kyle recently joked he would have preferred to play Cynthia Nixon's alter ego, tough lawyer Miranda Hobbes, in Sex and the City. He told Us Weekly: "I would've loved to play Sex and the City's Miranda Hobbes. Alas, I was never asked to audition." Meanwhile, the Flintstones actor is a keen chef outside of work and revealed that while he is mostly made up of coffee and wine and goes to great lengths in the kitchen but his favourite food is just a basic cereal. He said: "My body liquid is made up primarily of coffee and wine. Some say this is alarming, but I'm reframing it as product research. If I'm cooking, my favourite food is lamb. If someone else is cooking, my favourite food is Cap'n Crunch. "If I was reincarnated, I'd come back as my dog, Elvis. Treats, belly rubs and endless hours hearing me talk about coffee and pie?."

Raven-Symone and wife sleep in separate rooms

Raven-Symoné and her wife sleep in separate bedrooms. The 39-year-old actress and her spouse Miranda Pearman-Maday have "many" reasons for having their own space at night, with the That's So Raven star admitting she can understand why her nocturnal habits keep her partner awake if they share a bed. In a preview from their appearance on the Jeff Lewis Has Issues podcast, Miranda, 37, said: 'Honestly, there were many reasons. 'Raven is a crazy sleeper and she would keep me up at night. She kicks and tosses and breathes. I have a big routine.' Raven interjected: 'It's the hair. It's the humidifier. It's the curtains. It's the way she lays in the bed with red light systems on the whole entire body. I'm in the bed, I'm on TikTok, my legs are spread all the way open. Half-naked.' Miranda joked her wife had 'maybe washed her face that day,' but the former Disney Channel star quipped, 'Probably not.' Earlier this month, Raven admitted she thinks becoming a parent is a "narcissistic" thing to do. Speaking on the Tea Time with Raven and Miranda podcast, guest Lena Waithe said: "Whenever someone says to me they want to have a baby, or they want to be a parent, I think my first question is 'Why?' Raven said: "It's a narcissistic act." Lena simply replied: "True." Meanwhile, the former That's So Raven was discussing the notions of labels and communities with Lena, and insisted that leaving "toxic mentalities" behind to embrace the wider world is the only way to "learn" as a person. She said: "When you leave that toxic mentality, you're integrating yourself into the world, and that's better for me. "I love the fact that we are on a planet with so many types of thought processes and so many different types of cultures. We can learn from every single culture, from every single religion, and if you're just stuck in one group all the time, you are never gonna grow. "I have gotten in trouble a lot with things that I have said, but that is ultimately what my brain wants to do. I want to travel to every single country and say 'Oh, you cook chicken better than me, I'm gonna eat your chicken too. Yay me! Y'all know who cooks that fried chicken, it's not just black people. This s*** is delicious. "I do wanna go to Africa and see the beautiful with the red clay on their skin, I wanna go to India and see the beautiful women with yellow clay on their skin. "There's so many ways and people to learn from, and if you just stay in that circle and condemn your people for venturing out, then that is toxic."
