KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- The Communications Ministry, through MyCreative Ventures, will be organising RIUH X ASEAN 2025 in the city from Oct 17 to 26, in conjunction with Malaysia's ASEAN Chairmanship this year.
Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said that the event is set to become Southeast Asia's largest creative showcase, fostering cross-border collaboration and new economic opportunities among ASEAN's creative and entrepreneurial communities.
'This event brings together art, creativity, music, and entrepreneurship from Malaysia and fellow ASEAN nations, reflecting the ASEAN 2025 vision of unity, inclusivity, and sustainability,' he said at a press conference on the RIUH Hangout 2025 here today, which was also attended by Deputy Minister Teo Nie Ching and the ministry's secretary-general Datuk Seri Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa.
According to Fahmi, the highlight of the event is the RIUH X ASEAN Marketplace, which will take place from Oct 22 to 26, featuring over 200 brands and 100 food and beverage vendors from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, and the Philippines.
'The marketplace will also host over 40 stage performances, 30 interactive workshops, and 20 creative activations, serving as an industry networking hub for regional entrepreneurs and creative talents,' he said.
In the lead-up to the main event, a RIUH Gallery pop-up series will begin on Oct 1, taking place at key locations across the Klang Valley, with activities that include indie music showcases, comedy acts, literary and spoken word sessions, and visual art exhibitions, aimed at giving local talents a platform to showcase their work and engage with the public.
In fact, the minister said, FrequenSEA, which will be ASEAN's first dedicated music conference, is also slated to be held on Oct 21-22.
'This conference is expected to attract over 200 participants, including musicians, producers, content creators, and industry leaders, to discuss the future of Southeast Asia's music industry,' he said.
Meanwhile, Fahmi said that RIUH MERDEKA 2025 will debut as a non-stop 30-hour celebration at the parking grounds of the Monumen Alaf Baru in Putrajaya.

Food Bank Malaysia To Screen Classic Films To Mark National Month

ALOR SETAR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Food Bank Organisation (Food Bank Malaysia) will be organising screenings of classic films in an open-air cinema format to enliven the National Month celebrations in this city. Its chairman Mohd Azrul Mohd Razak said that through the screening of classic films, the public can reminisce about history while at the same time fostering the spirit of nationalism within society. 'Various interesting classic films, including those acted by the late National Artiste Tan Sri P. Ramlee, will be screened for the public,' he told Bernama here today. He said the screenings will be held every Friday starting Aug 22 at Warong Jalan Day here, from 8 to 11 pm. According to him, tickets will be sold from as low as RM5 for adults and children aged six and above, while senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PwD) will be given free entry. 'Tickets will go on sale tomorrow through Food Bank Malaysia's social media platforms and are limited to only 30 buyers each week due to the limited seating capacity,' he said. Mohd Azrul further said that all proceeds from ticket sales will be fully channelled to Food Bank Malaysia for charitable purposes, and every ticket purchaser will also be served a complimentary set meal and drink, subject to terms and conditions. 'The programme is also an effort to raise funds to help provide free food to the underprivileged around the state,' he said. Mohd Azrul added that for any enquiries and further information, the public can contact the secretariat through the link

Negaraku II Explores Malaysia's Story Through Art In George Town

By Siti Azila Alias GEORGE TOWN, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- As Malaysians proudly fly the Jalur Gemilang ahead of the National Day, the spirit of patriotism, unity and hope for the future is also finding its voice through art. A year after unveiling negaraku, an exhibition honouring the nation's journey from independence to its future possibilites, art collector Bingley Sim and his wife Ima Norbinsha return with negaraku II, a more expansive sequel that goes deeper into the complexities of Malaysian identity. Running throughout the month (until Aug 31) at Hin Bus Depot, Jalan Gurdwara here, negaraku II showcases compelling works from the private collection of Sim, 62, and Ima, 63, two passionate champions of socially conscious Malaysian contemporary art. Curated by Ivan Gabriel, the exhibition features 35 works from the couple's private collection, with some presented as thematic sets, bringing the total number of individual pieces to about 60, divided into six chapters. In an interview with Bernama, Sim explained that the first chapter titled 'Pejuang-Pejuang' (Warriors), begins with a 1511 masterpiece by Edroger Rosili depicting the Portuguese arrival, a reminder of a history Malaysians must not forget, as their ancestors lived under colonial rule for centuries. He said the second chapter 'Malaysia, Truly Asia' takes inspiration from the well-known tourism slogan, highlighting the country's rich cultural diversity while also addressing the underlying challenges that coexist with its beauty. 'Third chapter 'Pendatang?' (Immigrants?) is quite core in this show because this is something very close to curator Ivan. It explores the migrant roots of many Malaysians, in fact, many of our parents or grandparents, in my case, were actually a migrant and became an immigrant from China,' he said. In Chapter 4 titled 'Sama-sama' (Together), Sim pointed out that it celebrates Malaysia's food culture as a unifying bridge between communities, while highlighting historical connections beyond popular eateries.

PENTARAMA MERDEKA@HOHO Brings National Day Spirit Closer To The People

By Maizatul Jamny Muhammad Rosli KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 17 (Bernama) -- The sight of a brightly decorated double-decker bus weaving through the federal capital last night, blaring patriotic songs and flying the Jalur Gemilang, turned heads as it transformed the city streets into a moving celebration of National Day and Malaysia Day 2025. The unique initiative, known as PENTARAMA MERDEKA@HOHO, is a collaboration between the Information Department (JAPEN) and Elang Wah Sdn Bhd, operator of the KL Hop-On Hop-Off (KL HOHO) service. Now in its second year, the collaboration goes beyond last year's concept by offering a stronger and more impactful programme. Bernama joined the event aboard the decorated bus, which doubled as a mobile stage featuring music, dance, cultural performances and the Jalur Gemilang. The bus made stops at Sungei Wang, River of Life and Pavilion KL. In addition to performances, the mobile stage offered interactive activities such as patriotic quizzes, while Jalur Gemilang flags were distributed to the public at each stop. The programme stood out for its ability to deliver patriotic messages amid the city's bustle without requiring people to gather at a specific venue, creating a fresh and inclusive experience for city dwellers and tourists. R. Thinesh, 25, who watched the show at Sungei Wang, said he was surprised but delighted to see patriotic performances on the streets, describing the effort as creative and impactful. 'I heard music from afar and then saw a bus decorated with Malaysian flags, with people singing and dancing to Merdeka songs. It was exciting because I didn't have to go anywhere else, the performance came to me,' he said.
