Nagpur: In a novel approach to policing, the Bhandara district police introduced a novel concept called Thana Adhiveshan, transforming routine crime review meetings into community-centric events.
The initiative, led by superintendent of police Noorul Hasan, implemented across police stations like Gobarwahi, Karadi, Adyal, Lakhandur, and Tumsar, shifted the entire district police machinery to remote police stations, blending administrative rigour with public engagement.
Unlike traditional crime review meetings held at district headquarters, Thana Adhiveshan took district police brass to remotest corners of Bhandara, such as Gobarwahi on Maharashtra-Madhya Pradesh border.
This strategic relocation not only facilitated a thorough review of law and order but also fostered a stronger local community connect. "The concept revolves around a congregation that is more than just a crime review meeting," said Hasan, a former BARC scientist-turned-IPS officer.
"It's about police presence in far-flung areas, instilling a sense of safety among people and deterring unlawful elements."
The Thana Adhiveshan transformed a routine administrative exercise into a one-day camp operation.

In cases where remote police stations lack space to accommodate large gathering, the event is hosted at a nearby panchayat or nagar parishad building, ensuring logistical feasibility without compromising the initiative's objectives.
The Thana Adhiveshan was held at multiple locations, including Gobarwahi, Karadi, Adyal, Lakhandur, and Tumsar, each event marked by enthusiastic participation from both police personnel and locals. The initiative not only streamlined crime review processes but also bridged the gap between the police and the public. "By addressing grievances on the spot, police made justice more accessible, particularly for those in remote areas who rarely interact with senior officials," Hasan said.
Hasan emphasised that the initiative was designed to make policing inclusive and visible. "When villagers see police in such numbers, it boosts their confidence in the system. At the same time, it ensures our officers remain accountable and connected to the communities they serve," he said.

Dehradun resident Manju Lal filed a complaint on Saturday, alleging that a line in the song -- which links rise in the number of liquor shops to prostitution -- was offensive to all women in Uttarakhand. A case was filed later that night at Patel Nagar police station, and Semwal, who was in Delhi, was summoned for questioning on Sunday. Inspector Chandrabhan Singh Adhikari, SHO of Patel Nagar, said the case was filed under BNS sections 196 (promoting enmity between groups), 353 (statements conducive to public mischief), and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of women). "After questioning, he was served notice under BNSS section 35, under which he must present himself before police when summoned during the probe. He was also warned not to repeat such acts," Adhikari said. The song, titled 'Tin Bhi Ni Thami' in Garhwali, loosely translated as 'Can't handle it for a bit', had first been uploaded three days ago, and then taken down. The case has also triggered a political row in Uttarakhand. State Congress president Karan Mahara accused the BJP govt of silencing dissent through such actions. "The song highlights things which the govt does not want to hear," he said. In response, BJP state spokesperson Manveer Singh Chauhan said, "Due to holistic development under this govt, Congress has got no issues to raise. These songs are part of its agenda of mudslinging."

Luis Leon, an 82-year-old Pennsylvania resident, was unexpectedly deported to Guatemala after visiting a US immigration office to replace his lost green card. Leon had been living in Allentown for decades after being granted political asylum in the US in 1987, following torture under Chilean dictator Augusto Pinochet's regime. He had lost his wallet containing the physical card that confirmed his legal residency, according to The Morning Call report cited by the Guardian. However, upon arrival, Leon was suddenly handcuffed by two Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers and led away without explanation, his wife said. The family said they then heard nothing about Leon's whereabouts, despite numerous attempts to contact authorities. Days later, they received a phone call from a woman claiming to be an immigration lawyer who said she could assist, but she did not explain how she knew about the case or where Leon was being held.
