Minus sporadic scuffles, ZPTC polls end peacefully in Kadapa district, YSRCP demands Re-election at Pulivendula
While a polling percentage of close to 75 was reported at Pulivendula, officials stated the polling percentage at the Vontimitta ZPTC elections were around 72% with many more voters waiting in the queue lines even as the deadline for voting ended sharp at 5 pm on Tuesday. Officials assured that all the voters in the queue lines will get their opportunity to vote.
Both at Pulivendula and at Vontimitta, the contest narrowed down to a close votes battle between the TDP and the YSRCP.
While the TDP fielded M Latha Reddy, the YSRCP fielded Hemanth Reddy at Pulivendula ZPTC. And at Vontimitta, TDP fielded Muddu Krishna Reddy, while the YSRCP fielded Iragam Reddy.
Earlier when polling began sharp at 7 am on Tuesday, voters queued up to the 15 odd polling stations across Pulivendula and 30 odd polling stations across Vontimitta to cast their votes through the ballot format.
And as the polling progressed, minor scuffles broke out between the TDP and the YSRCP activists both at Pulivendula and at Vontimitta.

Alert police personnel under the supervision of Kurnool range DIG Koya Praveen and Kadapa SP EG Ashok Kumar intervened quickly and set things right on time to ensure there was no disruption to the polling process.
High drama prevailed earlier in the day when the district police wing arrested Kadapa MP YS Avinash Reddy and placed YSRCP leader SV Satish Reddy and TDP MLC Bhumireddy Ramgopal Reddy under house arrest as a precautionary measure.
While the police tried to shift Avinash Reddy, scores of YSRCP followers waylaid the police vehicle and freed the Kadapa MP near Yerraguntla. The YSRCP activists led by Avinash Reddy staged protests and demanded a Re-election at Pulivendula.
Speaking to reporters, Kadapa MP alleged that more than a thousand TDP activists were brought to Pulivendula by Kamalapuram TDP MLA Putha Chaitanya Reddy, C Bhupesh Reddy and Jammalamadugu BJP MLA C Adinarayana Reddy for rigging at E Kothapalli, Nallapareddy Palli and several other polling stations.
'Instead of preventing the ruling party ministers and MLAs from resorting to rigging and other undemocratic acts aimed at derailing the entire election process, the police dept pledge support to the ruling party by targeting the YSRCP activists instead', Avinash Reddy rued and demanded a Re-election at Pulivendula.
Meanwhile, state minister Mandipalli Ramprasad Reddy, who closely monitored the progress of polling at Vontimitta and Pulivendula, asserted that the state govt and the EC upheld the democracy by ensuring free and fair elections at both the ZPTC seats in Kadapa district. He dismissed the YSRCP accusations as lame excuses aimed to cover-up their defeat in both the ZPTC seats.
And as the polling procedures got completed by the end of the day, the ballot boxes were shifted to the strong rooms at Kadapa, where they will be preserved in tight security until the counting day on Aug 14.

India's next gen coal-fired power projects in limbo; Approvals pending over a year after Budget announcement
The 800 MW NTPC-BHEL advanced ultra super critical (AUSC) coal fired project is yet to get requisite approvals from the centre despite being announced in Budget 2024-25. According to submissions by the Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI) before the Parliamentary Committee on Public Undertakings (CoPU), follow-up meetings were held at NITI Aayog in August and December 2024 subsequent to the budget announcement. 'A draft Public Investment Board (PIB) note for approval was also submitted to the Power Ministry by NTPC with project details in March 2025,' MHI said. But there has been no progress since. 'The final approval from the Government is still awaited which is crucial for the project to move forward,' the Parliamentary Committee said. The AUSC project aims to replace aging subcritical coal plants with more efficient and environmentally friendly alternatives. The technology, developed jointly by BHEL , NTPC, and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), completed its R&D phase in December 2020. According to MHI, the proposed Technology Demonstration Plant (TDP) is to be located at NTPC Korba in Chhattisgarh and implemented by NTPC BHEL Power Projects Private Limited (NBPPL). Expressing concerns over the delay, The CoPU expressed concern over the delay, calling the ministry's response 'interim' and urging the Ministry of Heavy Industries to 'vigorously follow up' with the Ministry of Power and other relevant departments to secure final approval. The committee emphasized the importance of the AUSC project in improving the efficiency and environmental performance of India's thermal power fleet, especially as over 130 GW of coal-based capacity is expected to cross 30 years of age by 2047. The report also highlighted broader issues facing BHEL, including procurement restrictions, delays in board appointments, and gender representation in the workforce. The committee reiterated its call for time-bound action and greater inter-ministerial coordination to ensure strategic projects like AUSC do not languish despite policy support.

Jagan alleges Chandrababu-Rahul ‘hotline'
Vijayawada: YSRCP president Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, alleging that he maintained a 'hotline' with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi through Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. Addressing a press conference in Vijayawada, Jagan questioned Rahul Gandhi's silence on the YSRCP's 'vote chori' allegations after the 2024 elections. 'When there was a 12 per cent variation between votes polled and votes counted last year, why didn't you join us in demanding justice?' he said, responding to Rahul's recent remarks on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. The former CM alleged that Congress spokespersons target only him while ignoring alleged corruption in the TDP-led coalition government. 'Belt shops, permit rooms, liquor sales above MRP-these flourish unchecked because Chandrababu Naidu is in constant touch with Rahul Gandhi. Otherwise, why the selective criticism?' he remarked. Turning to Monday's by-elections for Pulivendula and Ontimitta Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs), Jagan demanded fresh polling under Central forces, calling the exercise 'a mockery of democracy' and 'the most atrocious and undemocratic election in history.' He alleged that YSRCP agents and sympathisers were forcibly removed from polling stations, their authorisation forms torn, and their slips snatched. 'This was the real 'vote chori',' he said, claiming that TDP leaders, including MLAs from outside, took control of booths under police protection while genuine voters were blocked. Jagan accused the police of acting like 'TDP agents', allowing party cadre to move freely while detaining YSRCP leaders. He cited the house arrest of the Pulivendula ZPTC candidate and the arrest of MP Y.S. Avinash Reddy, who was outside the election area. He also displayed video clips allegedly showing TDP workers casting votes and locals expressing anguish at being denied their franchise. According to Jagan, 700 police personnel were deployed for just 15 booths with around 10,600 voters—not for security, but to 'terrorise' the electorate. The jumbling of polling booths, he alleged, was done to confuse voters and discourage turnout. He charged that the State Election Commission ignored YSRCP complaints, refused to release CCTV footage, and failed to act on reports of violence and bias. 'This cannot be called an election,' Jagan declared. 'It sets a dangerous precedent that destroys the democratic spirit.' The YSRCP chief confirmed that his party's candidates would move court to seek cancellation of the polls.

Tribal freedom fighters museum in ASR district to be ready by year end
1 2 Visakhapatnam: The tribal freedom fighters museum at Tajangi Dairy Farm near Lammasingi in Alluri Sitarama Raju district is expected to be ready by the end of the year. The museum's construction, which began four years ago on 22 acres of land allotted by the state govt, was delayed due to a court case. The previous govt had allegedly diverted the funds given by the central govt, leading to a delay in the completion of the project. The construction of the museum was to be completed in two years, but the court case prolonged the process. The TDP-led NDA govt in state has taken up the project as a priority and has removed the legal hurdles. The high court cancelled the stay given earlier, and the authorities are speeding up the works. The central govt had allotted Rs 15 crore for the museum, while the state govt allotted Rs 20 crore. The central govt released Rs 7.5 crore as the first instalment, which was allegedly diverted by the previous govt. The NDA govt has already announced that there is no shortage of funds and has sent the principal secretary of the tribal welfare department to the construction site twice. The works are being supervised by a senior employee from Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya in Bhopal, who was appointed on deputation. Tribal welfare deputy executive engineer, G Raghunatha Naidu, said that they have set a target to complete the works by the end of December. According to the authorities, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to inaugurate the museum. The museum is expected to showcase the history and culture of the tribal communities in the region and will be a significant tourist attraction.
