(Reuters) -Poland's biggest game developer CD Projekt said on Wednesday that the next "big" game set in the Cyberpunk universe, "Cyberpunk 2", has entered the preproduction phase.
"Cyberpunk 2", on which 96 developers were working at the end of April, is a sequel to "Cyberpunk 2077" which debuted in December 2020 and has sold more than 25 million copies so far.
Total sales of Cyberpunk's "Phantom Liberty" expansion have meanwhile surpassed 10 million copies, CD Projekt said.
The company's first-quarter net profit fell 14.1% year-on-year to 86.0 million zlotys due to paying more tax than in the year earlier period, missing analysts' expectations of 95 million zlotys, as compiled in a Reuters poll.
Revenue for the period was flat at 226.3 million zlotys.
"Cyberpunk 2077" will also be available on the Nintendo Switch 2 when it launches on June 5.

Meta aims to fully automate advertising with AI by 2026, WSJ reports

REUTERS/Francis Mascarenhas/File Photo (Reuters) -Meta Platforms aims to allow brands to fully create and target advertisements with its artificial intelligence tools by the end of next year, the Wall Street Journal reported on Monday, citing people familiar with the matter. The social media company's apps have 3.43 billion unique active users globally and its AI-driven tools help create personalized ad variations, image backgrounds and automated adjustments to video ads, making it lucrative for advertisers. A brand could provide a product image and a budget, and Meta's AI would generate the ad, including image, video and text, and then determine user targeting on Instagram and Facebook with budget suggestions, the report said. Meta also plans to let advertisers personalize ads using AI, so that users see different versions of the same ad in real time, based on factors such as geolocation, according to the report. The owner of Facebook and Instagram, whose majority of revenue comes from ad sales, did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment. Social media firms such as Snap, Pinterest and Reddit are increasingly investing in AI and machine learning tools to attract advertisers in an intensely competitive and crowded digital ad market. Technology firms such as Google and OpenAI have also launched video and image-generation AI tools, but their widespread adoption in advertising remains in doubt as marketers weigh concerns over brand safety, creative control and quality. CEO Mark Zuckerberg stressed that advertisers needed AI products that delivered "measurable results at scale" in the not-so-distant future. He added that the company aimed to build an AI one-stop shop where businesses can set goals, allocate budgets and let the platform handle the logistics. Digital banking startup Chime targets $9.5 billion valuation in US IPO

(Reuters) -Digital banking startup Chime Financial said on Monday it was targeting a valuation of up to $9.47 billion in its initial public offering in the U.S. San Francisco, California-based Chime and some of its existing shareholders are seeking to raise up to $832 million by offering 32 million shares priced between $24 and $26 apiece. The U.S. IPO market has sprung back to its feet after a disappointing April as equities rebounded amid easing volatility, paving the way for companies to go public after tariff-driven chaos shut the window for weeks. Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and J.P. Morgan are the lead underwriters for the offering. Chime will list on the Nasdaq under the symbol 'CHYM'. Google says it will appeal online search antitrust decision

FILE PHOTO: People walk next to a Google logo during a trade fair in Hannover Messe, in Hanover, Germany, April 22, 2024. REUTERS/Annegret Hilse/File Photo (Reuters) -Alphabet's Google on Saturday said it will appeal an antitrust decision under which a federal judge proposed less aggressive ways to restore online search competition than the 10-year regime suggested by antitrust enforcers "We will wait for the Court's opinion. And we still strongly believe the Court's original decision was wrong, and look forward to our eventual appeal," Google said in a post on X. U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta in Washington heard closing arguments on Friday at a trial on proposals to address Google's illegal monopoly in online search and related advertising. In April, a federal judge said that Google illegally dominated two markets for online advertising technology, with the U.S. Department of Justice saying that Google should sell off at least its Google Ad Manager, which includes the company's publisher ad server and its ad exchange. The DOJ and a coalition of states want Google to share search data and cease multibillion-dollar payments to Apple and other smartphone makers to be the default search engine on new devices. Antitrust enforcers are concerned about how Google's search monopoly gives it an advantage in artificial intelligence products like Gemini and vice versa. John Schmidtlein, an attorney for Google, said at the hearing that while generative AI is influencing how search looks, Google has addressed any concerns about competition in AI by no longer entering exclusive agreements with wireless carriers and smartphone makers including Samsung Electronics, leaving them free to load rival search and AI apps on new devices.
