The Minister inspected the camp under way in a marriage hall at Ammapet in the city on Tuesday. He distributed welfare assistance to 17 persons based on their petitions.
Mr. Rajendran told reporters that 432 special camps, including 168 in urban areas and 264 in rural areas, would be held till November 30 in the district.
The Chief Minister had ordered that the issues mentioned in the petitions should be resolved within 45 days. House meeting of Chandigarh MC to discuss major proposals including tax defaulters' list, revenue initiatives

The upcoming General House meeting of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation on Tuesday is set to witness deliberations and approval of several key proposals, many of which are directly tied to the Corporation's financial health and revenue recovery. Among them, a particularly significant agenda item is a question raised by Councillor Maheshinder Singh Sidhu, seeking details of the top 20 property tax defaulters in the city. In addition to the tax defaulter issue, the meeting will also discuss a policy guideline for managing community centres, Janj Ghars and Dharamshalas under the Corporation. The proposal aims to address observations raised in the audit report of 2023-24, particularly objections regarding the provision of free bookings for Below Poverty Line (BPL) families for marriages, under the existing policy. The audit had flagged the need for clearer regulation and accountability in this regard. Moreover, several representations from public bodies and the Deputy Commissioner's office have raised concerns over noise pollution caused during functions in these venues. In response, a committee chaired by the Joint Commissioner was formed to review and draft a new policy. The committee's recommendations were earlier tabled in the House on March 25, but the proposal was deferred. Subsequently, the mayor constituted a committee of councillors to further refine the policy. The revised proposal is now being brought back for discussion, aimed at creating revenue streams while maintaining public welfare. However, opposition members have criticised the move, terming it an economic burden on the common public. Another proposal on the agenda focuses on the commercial utilisation of gym and fitness centres currently operating in the city's community centres. The Corporation plans to issue Request for Proposals (RFPs) for its professional operation and management. At present, 29 community centres have gym facilities. Selected private operators will be given a three-year contract, with a possible one-year extension based on performance and mutual agreement. The proposal also mentions a 5 per cent annual increase in monthly license fees, helping the MC generate consistent revenue. In yet another bid to boost municipal earnings, the House will take up the proposal for handing over the operation and maintenance of the Rose Club in Sector 16 under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) mode. The agreement, if approved, would run for 10 years, with a possible two-year extension. Under the proposed terms, the selected service provider would be responsible for the repair and renovation of the Rose Club without altering its original structure. Facilities like a restaurant, gym, and library would also be operated under the same agreement.

CM Stalin reviews party work from hospital, prepares petition to PM Modi

CHENNAI: DMK president and Chief Minister MK Stalin, who has been undergoing treatment at Apollo Hospitals since July 21, held a discussion with senior officials, including the chief secretary, on Saturday on the representation to be submitted to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Tamil Nadu on a two-day visit. DMK MP Kanimozhi and secretaries to the chief minister were also present during the discussion. A statement said the representation would include demands related to various development projects to be taken up in the state. The chief minister also announced that Finance Minister Thangam Thennarasu would be submitting the petition to Modi. Later in the evening, DMK's regional in-charges visited Stalin in the hospital to discuss party activities, especially the 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu' campaign. Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin, party treasurer TR Baalu, and organisation secretary RS Bharathi were also present. Stalin reviewed the constituency-wise progress in enrolment under 'Oraniyil Tamil Nadu'. He appreciated the functionaries of 150 Assembly constituencies that have crossed 30% enrolment in party membership. He also pointed out the districts and constituencies that were lagging and asked the respective regional in-charges to pay special attention to them. The chief minister also pointed out discrepancies in enrolment at certain polling stations and directed the functionaries of those booths to conduct the process afresh. He also asked party leaders about the public response to the 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme. On X platform, Stalin posted, 'Although the doctors are insisting that I remain in the hospital, I do not feel like resting while my party cadres are tirelessly working on the field.'

Anbumani launches padayatra to realise ‘Dr. Ayya's dreams'

PMK leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday launched a padayatra to realise what he called 'the dream of Dr. Ayya (his estranged father and party founder S. Ramadoss)' — of a Tamil Nadu that is free from liquor and drugs and where farmers are happy, workers are in a position of power, and everyone has access to education and health care. Dr. Ramadoss had earlier petitioned the police to restrain his son from taking out the padayatra, alleging that it would cause law and order issues in northern Tamil Nadu. Beginning his padayatra after offering prayers at the Thiruporur Kandaswamy Temple, Dr. Anbumani garlanded B.R. Ambedkar's statue on the way to a public meeting near the roundabout. He criticised Chief Minister M.K. Stalin for the state of law and order, violence against women, and failure to implement 10.5% internal reservation for the Vanniyars within the MBC category. 'We are seeing a Chief Minister who gives a two-hour call-sheet every day. He comes, someone will say 'action', he will act, and then they will play the video the whole day [on media channels],' he said. 'People are angry and farmers are angry. The women, including girls, are unable to go out. The Chief Minister is responsible for it. For, the Police Department is under his control. Recently, a young girl of Tiruvallur district was sexually assaulted. Such incidents happened at Anna Nagar [in Chennai], Krishnagiri, Pollachi, and Tiruchi. Women are suffering sexual assaults,' he said. 'Government employees and teachers are responsible for the DMK to come to power. They demanded that the old pension scheme be brought back. Seven States have already brought it back. Why can't Tamil Nadu do it? They have constituted a committee. What about the Sridhar Committee? The Shantha Sheela Nair Committee? When the DMK wants to postpone doing something, it will constitute a committee. And just before the election, when the committee submits its findings, it will promise to implement the recommendations after the election. This time, they [the people] can't be fooled,' he said. According to him, the recently launched 'Ungaludan Stalin' scheme had come too late. The PMK had earlier proposed a law to guarantee government services to the people. 'The government has launched 'Ungaludan Stalin' to provide services by organising special camps. What were you doing for four-and-a-half years? The PMK demanded, 15 years ago, that the government pass a law, named 'Right to Services Act'. Had such a law been passed, there would have been no need to hold these camps. This is our right, and it is the duty of the State government to guarantee it,' he said. Dr. Anbumani said Mr. Stalin claims that he hails from the Delta region, but has no connection with farming. 'Is there one farmer in Tamil Nadu who will say that he is happy? Do you know the agricultural growth in Tamil Nadu? It is -0.12%. If we consider the growth in milk production and fisheries, the growth is -5.68%. What has happened to the election promise that you would give ₹3,500 for a quintal of grain? What has happened to the promise that the government would give ₹5,000 for a tonne of sugar cane? Not a single farmer should vote for the DMK,' he said.
