‘Apna UP': Thieves dressed as Swiggy, Blinkit delivery boys loot jewellery shop in Ghaziabad
Two men dressed as Swiggy and Blinkit delivery agents entered Mansi Jewellers in Ghaziabad's Brij Vihar around 3:30 PM and looted gold and silver worth over ₹ 20 lakh in six minutes.
They carried a gun, assaulted the staff and forced them to stay silent. The crime happened in broad daylight and was caught on CCTV. Police said the men entered the shop pretending to deliver a parcel. Then, they threatened the staff and took the valuables.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Nimish Patil confirmed that the police had reached the spot quickly after getting the information.
"In PS Link Road, at around 4 PM, information was received that, around 3.30 PM, two unknown men entered his jewellery shop, threatened the worker and looted around 20 kg of silver ornaments and 125 g of gold ornaments,' ANI quoted DCP Patil as saying.
'Police immediately reached the site and inspected it. 6 teams have been formed to solve the case," he added.
Police are checking CCTV footage and following leads to catch them.

'This isn't a robbery. Someone had ordered jewellery, and they are rushing to pack and deliver it within 10 minutes! Understand the pressure they are in,' quipped one of them.

In January, Pune police caught Ganesh Kathewade. Disguised as a delivery boy, he committed 14 burglaries in empty flats, stealing jewellery worth ₹ 80 lakh.
In April, a man in Delhi's Kalkaji posed as a delivery agent, entered an elderly couple's home, tied them up and looted cash and gold. Police arrested him using CCTV footage.
In June, four men robbed a Vasant Kunj farmhouse, with one using a delivery trick to enter. In July, a food delivery boy in Mumbai was arrested for stealing gadgets like MacBooks and iPhones. He entered homes through open doors while on delivery duty. Police said he had done this six times before.

Dubai-based bizman abducted in Bengaluru, four arrested
BENGALURU: A Dubai-based businessman was kidnapped in the city on July 16 by his ex-girlfriend and her associates for a ransom of Rs 2.5 crore. The businessman, who was held captive for seven days, managed to alert the residents of the neighbouring flat about his kidnapping. Based on a complaint, Ashok Nagar police, who swung into action, rescued him and arrested four of the accused. The businessman's ex-girlfriend and three others involved in the crime are absconding. On July 16, his ex-girlfriend Mahima contacted him and requested to meet her. She booked a cab for him. After picking him from Indiranagar, the driver stopped the car near Koramangala, where three men barged in, blindfolded him and took him to a serviced apartment. The accused forced him to part with Rs 1 lakh in cash and two iPhones. They then assaulted him demanding Rs 2.5 crore. On July 23, Melvani managed to alert the family living in the neighbouring flat from the washroom of the serviced apartment about his kidnapping. Meanwhile, Melvani's family members alerted the police after they could not contact him for several days. Before the police could reach the serviced apartment, the accused bundled Melvani into a car and headed towards Tumakuru Road. After seeing a police team chasing them, the accused pushed Melvani out of the car and fled. The team intercepted the car after a few hours of chase and arrested the four accused. A senior police officer said Melvani's ex-girlfriend was behind the abduction plot. A search is on to nab her and other accused.

Scooterist dies after crashing into parked truck on Airoli bridge
MUMBAI: A 40-year-old scooterist died after he accidentally crashed his vehicle into a stationary truck on the Airoli Creek bridge on Friday. The police suspect he could not see it due to heavy rain and booked the truck driver for not having its parking indicators on. At around 7.30am on Friday, Patil was travelling towards Mumbai. Passersby called the police control room to report the incident. The police rushed him to Veer Savarkar Hospital in Mulund. He was then shifted to Fortis Hospital, where he died during treatment around 1pm. The truck driver, Ravindra Rajole, was booked for parking his truck on the Airoli Bridge without turning on the parking indicators. Police said the driver was aware that parking a heavy vehicle there was dangerous and could lead to an accident. The Navghar police have registered a case under Sections 106 (causing death by negligence) and 281 (rash or negligent driving or riding on a public way) of the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, and sections 22 (dealing with stopping and parking of vehicles) of the Motor Vehicles (Driving) Regulations, 2017. Rajole, who hails from Karnataka, was given an appearance notice and allowed to go.

Bengaluru: It had all the trappings of a gripping kidnap thriller: He received a call and the woman told him to step out of the pub and get into a car waiting outside with its headlights blinking. But instead of heading towards Koramangala as expected, the cab took a different route. That's when a sense of unease crept in. His fears came true moments later when two men suddenly entered the car and began assaulting him. It was clear now: he was taken! That marked the beginning of the ordeal for 37-year-old Lawrence Melwin, a native of Kerala, who worked as a manager in a travel agency in Dubai. According to Ashoknagar police, Melwin had come to Bengaluru to visit his family staying at Basavanagar. On July 14, Melwin visited a club in Indiranagar and it was when he received a call from a woman named Mahima Watt stating he could meet her and she would send a cab to pick him up. "I stepped out of the club around 3am. A cab with blinking lights stopped for me as Mahima had said. But two men later entered, assaulted me, and grabbed my bag, which contained Rs 1 lakh and two iPhones. They forced me to share the passwords of the phones," Melwin told police. He was later driven to a service apartment and locked in the flat. "A third man entered the flat and demanded Rs 50 lakh to release me. I told them that I could arrange Rs 20 lakh, but they refused. They locked me in a room and provided food," Melwin narrated. Meanwhile, the miscreants made Melwin send voice messages from his phone to his family members, saying he was in Kodagu. On July 22, Melwin saw hope when a woman in the neighbouring flat responded to his cries for help. His family members suspected something was amiss and filed a complaint with Ashoknagar police. Cops found that his mobile phone's last location was in Hebbal. By then, the kidnappers realised that the location was no longer a secret and moved him out. "I was quickly bundled into their car. After reaching Yeshwanthpur, they stopped near a star hotel and forced me to say I had Schizophrenia and that was why I felt I had been kidnapped. They recorded my statement on their mobile phones. Handing over a keypad mobile and my SIM along with Rs 1,000 in cash, they warned me not to approach police, or else, they would finish me," Melwin stated. Using the phone, Melwin called his sister, and by then, cops, who had discovered his mobile location, reached the place. Based on the information, police arrested four accused: Mohammed Asif Risaldar, 42, Mohammed Sohail Sheik, 25, of RT Nagar, Salman Pasha, 22, of DJ Halli, and Mohammed Nawaz, 27, of KG Halli. While Risaldar and Sheik work as commission agents at Kandaya Bhavan on KG Road, others are employed in garages. "These four accused worked as directed by Mahima and two others," police said. Now the question is: Who is Mahima? Melwin told police: "We met at a party in the city (Bengaluru), and since then, we have been friends." Asked why Mahima decided to kidnap him, Melwin said he had no idea. "We have many loose ends in the case, and the missing dots will get connected once we get Mahima and others into our custody. Presently, Mahima and two of her close friends are elusive. Special teams have gone to Mumbai and Vijayapura in search of them. It looks like a financial dispute gone wrong," an investigating officer said.
