Goodwood to spotlight F1 engineering icons at 2025 Festival of Speed
This year's Goodwood Festival of Speed will mark the 75th anniversary of the Formula One World Championship with a celebration of the sport's most influential technical minds. Adrian Newey, Gordon Murray and Ross Brawn — all major forces behind Formula One's evolution — will be central figures at the event taking place from July 10 to 13. The festival's F1 tribute is structured around six storytelling pillars — prologue, pioneers, innovators, underdogs, champions and teams — with each tracing a different chapter in the sport's development. The innovators section, curated in part by Newey, will focus on those who've pushed engineering boundaries and redefined race car design. Newey, now with Aston Martin after his tenure at Red Bull, has been a dominant figure in the sport for close to 40 years. His career includes more than 220 Grand Prix wins and 26 world titles with multiple teams. He'll bring two personal cars to Goodwood — a Lotus 49, the machine that sparked his interest in motorsport, and a Leyton House CG901, a car he designed for the 1990 season that introduced several technical innovations. Joining him is Prof Gordon Murray, the South African-born designer whose career began at Brabham in 1969. He quickly made his mark with designs such as the controversial BT46B 'Fan Car' and later joined McLaren during its late 1980s dominance with drivers such as Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost. Murray eventually moved into road car design, creating the McLaren F1 and later launching his own company, Gordon Murray Automotive. His firm is the featured marque at this year's festival, with a centrepiece display in front of Goodwood House and a collection of landmark vehicles spanning Murray's 60-year career. Also in the spotlight is Ross Brawn, who led some of the most successful technical operations in F1 history. He guided Michael Schumacher to seven world titles and famously spearheaded the Brawn GP fairytale run in 2009, when the newly formed team won the drivers' and constructors' championships in its only season. Brawn will showcase the 2009 BGP 001 at Goodwood — a car that set the cat among the pigeons. After selling his team to Mercedes, Brawn remained as team principal and laid the groundwork for the manufacturer's dominant era from 2014 to 2021. More recently he served as F1's MD of Motorsport, overseeing regulatory reforms and a push towards sustainability. The Festival of Speed's F1 celebration will also include more than 100 significant Grand Prix cars, with appearances by eight former world champions, including Alain Prost, Mario Andretti and Nigel Mansell.

Central Cee to add UK flavour to the Hey Neighbour music festival
The Hey Neighbour music festival has added UK Rapper Central Cee to the lineup. The skilled lyricist from Shepherd's Bush, London, England, will join a roster of performers, brimming with talent. The UK might arguably be one of the best places for hip hop. Both streams, grime and drill, appear to be more enterprising than the output of nations like America at present. Fans of real rap music found this staggered announcement to be a relief, as someone like Doja Cat is perhaps more of a hip-hop artist than apure rap. Central Cee, or Cench as he is lovingly known by his fans, will take to the stage on Saturday, August 30. He will dispense an array of his global rap hits, which include songs like Sprinter, Doja and Obsessed with You. His charismatic and choppy delivery works well on his albums. Hopefully, this translates well to his stage presence and approach to performance. Hey Neighbour has made a string of announcements over the last couple of days. Along with Central Cee, American R&B sensation Leon Thomas will be on hand with the musings of his impeccable magnum opus, Mutt. Fans are already salivating at the prospect of seeing the New York native dispense the lead and title single from that album. Hey Neighbour also announced that they are condensing their offering to two days instead of three. 'We're switching from a three-day festival to two jam-packed days, meaning the festival dates will be 30-31 August 2025. Yes, we're still bringing awesomeness to the hood,' they said via an Instagram post. They have also provided assurances that the festival will still be a world-class affair. All current ticket holders have been notified of this change by email. The first Hey Neighbour Festival was held two years ago. A string of local and international talents thrilled the crowd. Acts like Tyla, Swedish House Mafia and Kendrick Lamar delivered performances of a high level. This sophomore offering by the same organisers will have to go far and above what fans saw at the first iteration. Not to mention the unfortunate debacle involving exorbitant Uber fares at the end of each day. Hey Neighbour will be held at the Legends Adventure Farm in Pretoria in August of this year. Shakira's record-breaking tour hits snag with cancelled show
Shakira's recent streak of concert cancellations has left fans disappointed, but the Colombian superstar remains resolute and grateful for their support. The 48-year-old pop icon was forced to cancel her third show in just a few days. The singer pulled out of her much-anticipated WorldPride 2025 opening concert in Washington, DC, at Nationals Park on Saturday, 31 May. The cancellation came as a direct result of production complications following her previous cancelled shows in Boston's Fenway Park, according to Daily Mail. City inspectors found structural issues with the stage setup in Boston, deeming it unsafe and below standard. This led to the abrupt cancellation of her shows there. These problems then cascaded, making it impossible to transport her full tour production to Washington, DC, in time for the WorldPride event. Shakira expressed her heartbreak over the cancellations. 'Due to circumstances beyond my control, I am sad and heartbroken that I will not be able to be in Washington, D.C. with you tomorrow. I hope that I can come back to D.C. as soon as I am able. Meanwhile, please know that I am eternally thankful for your unconditional support'. Despite the setbacks, she promised to do everything in her power to reunite with her fans soon. The WorldPride festival is the largest LGBTQ+ event globally and a significant celebration during Pride Month. It was set to kick off with Shakira as the headliner. The Capital Pride Alliance, organisers of WorldPride, expressed their disappointment. They assured fans that the event's opening ceremony would be relocated and restructured, with the rest of the citywide festivities continuing as planned. While the cancellations have been a blow, Shakira can still celebrate a major career milestone. Her Las Mujeres Ya No Lloran tour has shattered records. It has becoming the highest-grossing Latin American concert tour by a female artist, surpassing Karol G's Mañana Será Bonito tour. The tour has grossed an impressive $130 million (approximately R2.7 billion) from 21 shows across Mexico and South America. This ranked it second globally on the 2025 midyear Billboard Boxscore Report, just behind Coldplay. Shakira's tour has not been without its challenges. Earlier in the tour, she was hospitalised in Lima, Peru, and had to postpone shows in Medellín and Santiago due to health and safety concerns. She also suffered a fall on stage during a high-energy performance in Montreal but continued the show professionally. Ticket holders for the cancelled Washington and Boston shows will receive automatic refunds through Ticketmaster and Fans who purchased tickets through other vendors were advised to contact their sellers directly. Despite the recent disappointments, Shakira's record-breaking success and will be back on stage soon, ready to deliver the unforgettable performances her fans deserve.
