Diane Parish sends fans wild with behind-the-scenes Soap Awards snaps

Daily Mirror01-06-2025
EastEnders icon Diane Parish took to social media over the weekend to share a fun-fuelled video of highlights from the 2025 British Soap Awards - which did not give away any of the winners
Diane Parish was in a celebratory mood on Saturday night as she joined her EastEnders castmates and headed to Hackney for the British Soap Awards 2025. The 55-year-old soap icon, famous for playing Denise Fox on the BBC show since 2006, had been on the long list for one of the show categories.
The star had been initially nominated for the Best Leading Performer gong, but did not advance to the second round of nominations for the prestigious award. Instead, EastEnders co-stars Lacey Turner and Kellie Bright were nominated for the gong alongside Emmerdale stars Beth Cordingly and Eden Taylor-Draper.

Stars from Hollyoaks and Coronation Street were also at the glitzy awards show on Saturday night, which was hosted by singing sensation and cruise ship enthusiast Jane McDonald. The full list of winners was announced on Saturday night, but some fans are waiting to find out who took home which prize when highlights from the ceremony are broadcast on ITV on Thursday night.

With this in mind, Diane took to social media on Sunday to share her own highlights from the night, which did not give anything away. She shared a two-and-a-half-minute-long video from the celebrations, which included footage of her partying with fellow soap stars before, during and after the event.
Uploading the footage to her main grid, Diane wrote: "NO SPOILERS for those who don't wanna know. But I am sooooo PROUD of everyone who works on @bbceastenders What a night!"

Clips showed her laughing and chatting with co-stars, encouraging members of the public in the live audience to cheer, spotlighting Anita Dobson in the crowd, and partying at the after party. Soap stars were thrown into a panic at the party, however, as the after-show venue was hit by a bomb hoax.
The event was held at London's Hackney Town Hall after the main awards. But attendees were suddenly asked to leave the venue shortly before 1am after the event had reportedly received a bomb threat.

"We all got evacuated just before 1am. No reason was given at first and security came round and told us we had to leave immediately," a source told The Mirror - recounting the nerves shredding experience.
"As we all waited in the street outside, security told us there had been a bomb threat. We weren't allowed back in the building so people started making their way home."

In a video shared with The Mirror, some of TV's biggest soap stars can be seen waiting outside the venue as more evacuate - with the likes of EastEnders' Tameka Empson and former Hollyoaks star Emmett J Scanlan among them.
A show source also told The Mirror: "Owing to a security alert after the recording of the awards, it was necessary to evacuate the after party venue. Everyone was cleared from the building safely."
Meanwhile, fans of soaps took to social media to slam ITV for failing to broadcast the event live - with many annoyed that they would have to wait until Thursday before being able to see who would take to the stage.
Taking to X to slam the delay in broadcast, one fan raged: "It's ridiculous that the British Soap Awards isn't live… there's more hype for the soap stars arriving outside for something not even airing on tv for another week than there is the Britain's Got Talent final… sort it out for next year please @itv."
The British Soap Awards 2025 will be broadcast via ITV1 and ITVX on Thursday 5 June 2025 at 8pm.

Michelle Collins: ‘The death of my school friend changed my life'

Michelle Collins, who's in Edinburgh with her Fringe show, Motorhome Marilyn, is best known for playing Cindy Beale in EastEnders. It's a dark comedy about a woman called Denise who went to America to seek fame and fortune and ends up as a Marilyn impersonator. She is an obsessive Marilyn fan and also lives in a motorhome, hence the title. She has a very lonely existence in Las Vegas, living with her pet python, and has been Marilyn for so long she is not quite sure who Denise is any more. Port Logan, where I spent three summers filming Two Thousand Acres of Sky (even though the series was set on a fictional island off Skye). It was probably the most enjoyable filming I've ever done. Port Logan is a tiny village next to Portpatrick with, I think, a population then of only about 20 people. Just beautiful. In the height of summer I remember it not getting dark until so late, and sometimes you could see the northern lights. I love the beautiful, rugged landscape of Scotland; I feel a real affinity with the country. I also filmed Sea of Souls with Bill Paterson right up in northern Scotland, near Durness. It was a really hot summer and there were caves right on the beach. When the weather is good, Scotland is the best place in the world. The beaches were so beautiful and it was quite spooky because it was about a psychic criminologist and that part of Scotland in the north is quite spooky — I even stayed in a haunted hotel and saw a ghost. Mother India's café in Edinburgh, an amazing Indian tapas restaurant near the Gilded Balloon, where I am performing this year. There were also some fantastic fish restaurants in Portpatrick: I remember getting my first deep-fried Mars bar there. I'm partial to vegetarian haggis. • The 15 best restaurants in Edinburgh — our critic's guide Intense, kind, scatty. Charlie George. I used to have big posters of the Arsenal football team, especially when they did the double in the early Seventies. I still support them now. The train up to Glasgow, then driving down along the coastline to Stranraer and on to Portpatrick and Port Logan. That I was in Baywatch. I had dinner with someone once and they asked me if I still had that red swimming costume. Apparently, Wikipedia says I was in it. I wasn't. Never send an email on a Monday morning. Always sit on it. • Paul Sinha: I dodged an early death. It changes your perspective My great-grandma, Granny Bowen. My sister and I lived with her and my grandad for about a year when we were children, when I was about 11. I didn't like living out in Hayes, Middlesex — it felt like the back of beyond. I used to do everything I could to wind them up. She used to call me a little minx. David Essex, David Cassidy, David Bowie — all the Davids. I'm not sure if this is just my mind playing tricks with me, but I remember being in a huge pram (a big perambulator — I was a Sixties baby). Apparently, I threw eggs out of it and someone went into the butcher's shop where I was parked outside, and said to my mum: 'Your little baby boy is throwing eggs outside.' My mum didn't care about the eggs but she told them: 'That's not a boy, that's a girl!' I was in a TV show called The Illustrated Mum, which was adapted from a Jacqueline Wilson book. My agent didn't really want me to do it, but I wanted to because I loved the book. I loved playing the character, Marigold. It did really well — it won Baftas and an International Emmy. And I had a very memorable experience going to New York with Jacqueline Wilson. I was presented with the Emmy by Lenny Kravitz. • Miriam Margolyes: 'They call me vile. I'm absolutely delightful' I have very fond memories of going to see Oliver! with my mum when I was a kid. We saw it loads of times and every time I see it on TV now I feel an overwhelming sense of warmth and nostalgia. It still makes me cry. Also, The Sound of Music. Meeting a girl called Kate Healy. I was about 14, she was 15. We had very, very different lives; she had much more of a privileged life than I did. I would say she was more middle class, I was working class from a single-parent family. Sadly, Kate died when she was 16 — I was devastated. She had a cousin who was an actress who then helped me to audition for drama school. In many ways Kate really changed my life. Michelle Collins is performing in Motorhome Marilyn at Gilded Balloon Patter House until Aug 25 (not 13),

Killer John left reeling in Emmerdale as new Nate evidence comes to light

John Sugden (Oliver Farnworth) is in for a shock when it's revealed that Nate's death in Emmerdale is not all wrapped up in a bow as he thought – there's some damning evidence floating around that could yet bring him to justice. This is not good news and could mean all the hard work he put in framing dead man Owen for the murder was all for nothing. He's even managed to get Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) off his back after he came dangerously close to discovering the truth. Robert figured out that Owen had an alibi and that John had been to his house the day before he was found dead. But John carefully orchestrated things to discredit Robert in both the villagers' eyes and sister Vic's (Isabel Hodgins) both by portraying him as a scorned ex, and a threat to nephew Harry's safety. Now John just has to worry about the fact that actual, credible evidence is about to come to light. DC Cole puts Cain (Jeff Hordley) on edge when he's told they need to discuss Nate's murder. There is new evidence, which they need to discuss. Cain relays this to John, who is immediately struck with a sense of impending doom. It opens wounds for Cain and Tracy (Amy Walsh), who thought they could put the nature of Nate's death to bed and begin to work through their loss. But a fresh round of questioning reignites the pain. The elusive removal man is finally tracked down and suspicions are raised when Tracy shows him a photo and he doesn't recognise the man – Nate – who supposedly hired him. More Trending The police question him and he confirms it was in fact Owen who paid for his service. Of course, John has got involved here – it appears he has paid the man off. A surprise entrance at Yolande's hen do causes quite the stir in EastEnders

What's a hen do without a bit of unexpected drama, or, in this case, an actual bird? EastEnders fans are in for a chaotic treat as Yolande Truman's (Angela Wynter) hen party takes an unexpected turn this week when a cockerel crashes the celebrations in true Albert Square style. It all kicks off when Patrick Truman (Rudolph Walker) and Yolande, preparing for their big day, announce their choices for Best Man, Maid of Honour, and even their celebrant. Spirits are high as their loved ones come together to celebrate their long-awaited union, especially in the wake of Patrick's recent attack, which left him shaken but more determined than ever to focus on his and Yolande's relationship. But of course, it wouldn't be Walford without a bit of chaos. Things start to unravel with the arrival of Nigel and Julie, and their three pet chickens. While Julie throws herself into taking control of Nigel's care, Phil's not exactly thrilled to have chickens and Julie's strong opinions disrupting his household. With Julie calling the shots and changing Nigel's routine, it's not long before Phil starts to lose his patience. But the real chaos kicks off when Nigel forgets to close the chicken coop, and one very confident cockerel makes a break for it. Nigel, Julie, Phil and Lexi end up tearing around the Square trying to find the bird, but it turns out the cockerel has made it's way to the party. More Trending As the hen do is in full swing, with friends and family enjoying the celebration, the party is brought to a halt when the runaway cockerel makes a dramatic entrance. It's probably not exactly what Yolande had in mind for her big night, but it's certainly one she won't forget anytime soon. Meanwhile, Howie confronts Oscar in private after Jack has spent the day quizzing the pair. View More » As Yolande and Patrick's wedding day draws closer, hopefully, from here on out will be smooth sailing. But for now, the hen do will go down in Walford history, thanks to one rogue cockerel.
