Nagpur:
NCP
founder
Sharad Pawar
on Saturday hinted that Maharashtra deputy chief minister
Eknath Shinde
might be preparing for a big political move. Responding to a media query on Shinde's double-header trips to Delhi and his meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah, Pawar did not rule out the possibility of friction within the ruling Mahayuti comprising
BJP
, Shinde-Sena and NCP (Ajit).
"We all know Shinde Saheb very well. He has a habit of keeping quiet. What path he chooses in future, will be known to us very soon," said Pawar. The comment on Shinde's sudden silence was a reference to the surprise midnight rebellion which he engineered in the united Shiv Sena. On Saturday, Pawar hinted Shinde's trips to Delhi could be the proverbial 'lull before the storm'.
When asked if anyone from NCP(Ajit) had contacted him for 'ghar wapsi', Pawar said "no signals" have been sent by anyone.
On the possibility of merger of NCPs, Pawar effectively denied it with a short answer — "We work under the NCP name and many people are with us. But none of us can ever think of aligning with BJP". Asked about speculation of Uddhav Thackeray and Raj Thackeray coming together for local body polls, Pawar said there was no official discussion within Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) on the issue.
On a possible alliance between Thackeray brothers, Pawar said, "There are three elections ahead of us — municipal corporation, zilla parishad and nagar panchayat elections.

Pawar also ridiculed BJP's attack on Uddhav Thackeray, over occupying the 'back bench' in Delhi during Rahul Gandhi's presentation on voter fraud. Many saffron leaders had pointed out that as part of the INDIA bloc, Uddhav was made to sit in the last row, whereas he was always given equal standing as an ally when he was with BJP.
Pawar said, "I was there with Uddhav and other senior leaders. When the presentation started, we all shifted towards the rear. It's just like going to a cinema where you want to be far away from the screen to get a better view. But I saw so many things were being written about this seating position, even though nothing of that sort happened."

Congress leader shares 9-month-old video of Gadkari saying 350,000 names were deleted from voters' list

Mumbai: To bolster the leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi's claims of vote theft in Karnataka and Maharashtra, Congress leader and former Maharashtra minister Yashomati Thakur has shared a nine-month old video of union minister Nitin Gadkari saying the names of around 350,000 voters from his parliamentary constituency, Nagpur – including his relatives and hardcore supporters – had been deleted from the voters' list during the Lok Sabha poll in June 2024. Congress leader and former Maharashtra minister Yashomati Thakur (Anshuman Poyrekar/HT Photo) Thakur shared the 28-second clip via a social media post on Saturday, drawing a parallel between allegations levelled by Gadkari and Gandhi and saying that 'vote chori' (vote theft) happened wherever BJP did not want certain entities to get elected. 'BJP's blind devotees who are trying to prove Congress leader Rahul Gandhi a liar should watch this video. Now, BJP's senior leader and union minister Nitin Gadkari himself is exposing you…BJP folks, open your eyes, listen carefully,' Thakur, a former women and child development minister, said in the post, which was shared widely on Sunday. In the 28-second clip from November 2024, Gadkari is seen telling an interviewer from an English news channel that names of 350,000 voters from Nagpur, including those who always voted for him, were deleted from the electoral list. 'I will not make allegations against anyone, but it is a fact that 350,000 voters were removed from the list…One of them was my maternal nephew. Even those from my family were removed (from the voters' list),' Gadkari is heard saying after the interviewer asked if the names were deleted to weaken his position in Nagpur. The fact that such allegations were levelled by two different people from two different parties, by those who held 'high positions politically and socially' proved that vote theft did take place, Thakur said. The three-term former MLA from the Teosa assembly seat in Amravati told Hindustan Times that the BJP resorted to vote theft whenever it did not want certain entities to win. 'They must have done the same thing with Gadkari ji,' she said. Thakur also said that on average, her constituency Teosa saw an increase of about 5,000 voters every year. 'But in 2019 and 2024, large numbers of voters were deleted from the list and the population of my constituency also reduced. Do you think that is possible,' she wondered. Thakur won the 2019 assembly poll but lost the 2024 election to the BJP's Rajesh Wankhade by 7,617 votes.

Railways unable to complete over 69 projects in Bengal due to land issues: Union minister

Union minister Sukanta Majumdar on Sunday claimed that the Railways are unable to complete and commission more than 69 projects in West Bengal due to land availability issues. 'There is no dearth of funds, but the Railways are unable to complete and commission more than 69 projects in West Bengal owing to land availability issues,' he told reporters after inaugurating an AC EMU service at Sealdah railway station here. Asserting that the Railways will provide the requisite funds for completion of the projects, Majumdar said, 'We want the West Bengal government to rise above politics to provide land for these, as it concerns the interest of 10 crore people of the state. It is about the development of the state,' he said. Majumdar also urged the West Bengal government to send a proposal for renaming the Sealdah railway station after Sangh ideologue Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee. 'We will certainly get the proposal sanctioned from the central government to change the station's name to Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Sealdah Terminus,' he said. Hitting out at Majumdar's proposal of renaming Sealdah station, TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said: 'If Sealdah station is to be renamed, let it be renamed commemorating Swami Vivekananda. After his famous speech in Chicago, when Swami Vivekananda came back, he reached Sealdah station first.' At Dumdum station, where Mazumdar got off the train, TMC and BJP workers engaged in a heated war of words and sloganeering. While TMC workers raised 'Joy Bangla' slogans, BJP supporters chanted Jai Shri Ram and Jai Bharat. A TMC protester said, 'We don't want any central minister here. They are anti-Bangla and Bengalis. We Bengalis are being assaulted in other states. They call us foreigners and tell us to go back to Bangladesh. So, wherever we see them, I will say 'Joy Bangla'.'

Did you use 'vote-riggers', Fadnavis asks Sharad Pawar

NAGPUR: Maharashtra chief minister Sunday asked NCP(SP) chief whether he had used the services of "vote-riggers", a day after Pawar alleged that two unidentified persons had offered him and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi "guaranteed" victory in 160 out of 288 seats in the assembly polls last year. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now "You (Pawar) are responsible citizens. If someone approaches you saying they can influence elections, why did you not file a complaint with police or ? Or did you use their services and are now speaking up?" Fadnavis said in Nagpur. Pawar on Saturday alleged the duo first met him in Delhi, and later he arranged a meeting with Rahul Gandhi. Pawar claimed that both he and Rahul declined the offer as MVA wanted to contest "fairly." Fadnavis said, "It is shocking that such elements are being introduced to each other. If someone is conspiring, if someone says they will commit fraud, your duty is to file a complaint. This is not just casual talk - it is about credibility." The CM said the claims could not be brushed aside. "EC has repeatedly thrown open a challenge to political parties, engineers, and technocrats to try and hack EVMs, but no one has succeeded. If you believe there is fraud, take your evidence there. Instead, we hear these Salim-Javed-style stories," he remarked, referring to Rahul's earlier statements. Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said the opposition's claims were a case of "sour grapes. " "I want to challenge the opposition to find mistakes in the voter list now that local body polls are round the corner. They should examine the voter list now and come forward with any issues. But I know the opposition will keep quiet now, and then, after the results, they will start complaining," he said.
