Nora Aunor, Filipino film icon dies at 71 after seven-decade career
Nora Aunor, one of the most recognised figures in Philippine entertainment, has died at the age of 71. The news was confirmed on Wednesday through social media posts shared by her children. No details regarding the cause or location of death have been released.
Born Nora Cabaltera Villamayor in Camarines Sur, Aunor rose from humble beginnings, once selling water at a local train station, to become a national icon. She first entered the spotlight in the 1960s as a singer before transitioning to acting, where she built a formidable career spanning over 200 film and television roles.
Among her most lauded performances were those in Tatlong Taong Walang Diyos (1976), Bulaklak sa City Jail (1984), and The Flor Contemplacion Story (1995). Her role in Andrea, Paano ba ang Maging Isang Ina? (1990) earned her a sweep of best actress awards domestically. In 2012, she won the Asian Film Awards best actress title for Thy Womb, in which she portrayed a midwife.
Aunor continued to act until recently, with a role in the 2024 film Mananambal and an appearance in the legal drama Lilet Matias, Attorney-at-Law. In 2022, she was honoured as a National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts, the Philippines' highest accolade in the field.
Her nomination had previously been denied in 2014 by then-President Benigno Aquino III, reportedly due to a 2005 drug-related arrest in the United States. Her lawyer clarified that the item in question was found in a bag she did not pack, and that charges were dropped after a diversion programme was completed in 2007.
Aunor was married to actor Christopher de Leon from 1975 to 1996. She is survived by their children Ian, Lotlot, Matet, Kiko and Kenneth de Leon.

Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce celebrate Thanksgiving together with their families
Pop sensation Taylor Swift and NFL star Travis Kelce celebrated Thanksgiving together in Nashville, Tennessee, marking a special milestone in their relationship. The 34-year-old singer and the 35-year-old Kansas City Chiefs tight end hosted a festive family gathering, bringing both of their families together to celebrate the holiday. A source close to the couple exclusively confirmed to PEOPLE that Taylor and her family, including her parents Scott and Andrea, invited Travis' family for a cozy Thanksgiving dinner. "Taylor and her family were excited to host the Kelces this year," the insider shared. After the Thanksgiving festivities, Taylor joined Travis' mother Donna in Kansas City to cheer on the Chiefs during their victory against the Las Vegas Raiders on Friday, Nov. 29. The pair arrived at Arrowhead Stadium, supporting Travis as he prepped for the important game. Despite the public nature of their relationship, Taylor and Travis tend to keep their personal lives relatively private. Fans were taken by surprise when Travis' mom Donna had hinted just days earlier that Taylor might not attend the Kelce family Thanksgiving. During an appearance on the Today show, Donna, 72, mentioned that Taylor would likely not be joining the family due to her ongoing Eras Tour commitments. 'I don't think so. She's kind of busy right now,' Donna had said, referring to Taylor's jam-packed schedule as the tour nears its final show on Dec. 8. Donna also joked that the Kelces' Thanksgiving might revolve more around football than a traditional dinner. However, the celebration unfolded as a festive, family-oriented affair, surprising fans and showing a more intimate side of Taylor and Travis' relationship. This marks the first Thanksgiving the couple has spent together, as Taylor was in South America during Thanksgiving weekend in 2023, performing for her Eras Tour. Fans of the couple may have been particularly interested in Travis' recent comments about his relationship with Taylor. On the New Heights podcast, which he co-hosts with his brother Jason, Travis expressed his happiness, subtly confirming that things were going well between him and Taylor. 'We're both very happy in our relationships,' Travis shared in a November episode of the podcast. This Thanksgiving, Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's bond appeared stronger than ever, with both stars blending their worlds of music and football for a family-focused holiday celebration.

Dave Portnoy proves his Swiftie status with handwritten note from Taylor Swift
Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy wants to set the record straight: he's a true Swiftie, and he's got the letter to prove it. In an Instagram video shared on Sunday, Portnoy showcased a handwritten note from Taylor Swift herself, thanking him for attending her 'Eras Tour' in Miami. The businessman shared the letter in response to a viral TikTok accusing him of being a "fake Swiftie" who was using Swift's name to gain attention. 'It was an amazing night and I should be on cloud nine, but this girl kind of went viral recently trashing me and being like, 'I'm a fake Swiftie. Swifties should hate this guy, more importantly, Taylor's camp hates Dave, they never talked to him [or] reached out,'" Portnoy explained, addressing the viral clip. He clarified that the accusations were unfounded, revealing this was his second time attending the 'Eras Tour'. Portnoy then pulled out the handwritten letter, reportedly from Swift and delivered by her brother, Austin, during the concert. "This girl is like, 'Ooh Taylor hates him. They don't want him there. They don't like him,'" Portnoy said. 'This letter from Taylor herself that was hand-delivered to me in the VIP section." He then read the note aloud: "Dave, I'm so happy to have you at the show tonight! I wanted to say thank you for always being so supportive, so loyal, and for having my back when a lot of people didn't. I hope you have a blast tonight! Love, Taylor." Portnoy reflected on the moment, noting that the note should have been the "highlight" of his night, especially after meeting Swift's mother, Andrea. "We had like, a real hug. Like, almost teary, like, a real hug," he recalled. Despite the negative comments, Portnoy ultimately decided to take the high road, saying, "I think Taylor would like me to take the high road so I will." This isn't the first time Portnoy has defended his Swiftie status. After Swift endorsed Kamala Harris for president last month, Portnoy stood by her side despite planning to vote for Donald Trump. "As the king of the Swifties people are asking me what I think of her Kamala endorsement. I don't care at all," he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). "People can vote for whoever they want in this country."
