Post offices evolving into modern service hubs, says Pemmasani
Speaking at the event, Pemmasani explained the transformation of post offices from mere mail centres into modern service hubs offering savings and payments banking, parcel delivery, and other digital services.
Dr Chandrasekhar said that Andhra Pradesh has achieved a remarkable 14% growth in postal services, double the national average of 7%. He lauded the state's performance, attributing it to the adoption of modern technologies and efficient service delivery. He informed that post offices are now delivering parcels within 24 to 48 hours and have introduced mobile ATMs operated by postal staff to enhance last-mile connectivity. 'Today, every village can access a range of essential services through the local post office,' he said, emphasising the increasing importance of postal services in everyday life.
The minister also appreciated the postal department's role in distributing Rs 1,500 crore to beneficiaries under the 'Talliki Vandanam' scheme launched by the Andhra Pradesh government. He further stated that the central government has invested Rs 5,000 crore in upgrading the postal IT infrastructure nationwide, equipping every post office with advanced technology. Services such as parcel tracking and SMS updates are now integrated, enabling prompt delivery and transparency.
Amalapuram MP Ganti Harish Madhur submitted various local issues to the minister. The minister assured him that he would take steps to resolve the issues. Dr Chandrasekhar thanked the people of Konaseema for their warm hospitality and praised their patience and sincerity.

Haj pilgrims urged to avail of Vijayawada embarkation point
VIJAYAWADA: The Chairman of the Andhra Pradesh State Haj Committee, SK Hasan Basha, has urged Haj pilgrims to make full use of the Vijayawada Embarkation Point this year. He expressed gratitude to the State leadership for their commitment to the welfare of pilgrims and to retain embarkation point at Vijayawada. Addressing the media on Wednesday, Sk Hasan Basha said as promised in the election manifesto, the State government is providing Rs 1 lakh financial assistance to each Hajj pilgrim and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu successfully secured Vijayawada as an official embarkation point for Haj. He said Haj pilgrims traveling this year are encouraged to choose Vijayawada as their departure point to ensure the continuation of these services in future. He said the coalition government has taken significant steps to improve facilities for pilgrims, correcting previous shortcomings. The Chairman thanked CM Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Education Minister Nara Lokesh for their active support. Hasan Basha stated that the Central Haj Committee has allotted 2,550 slots for Andhra Pradesh pilgrims this year. He recalled that last year, 72 pilgrims from Vijayawada received Rs 1 lakh each from the coalition government, which was widely appreciated. He said in order to retain the embarkation point in Vijayawada in future, a large number of pilgrims must depart from Vijayawada Airport only. So far, over 1,900 pilgrims have already applied through Vijayawada, and a request has been submitted to the Central Haj Committee to extend the application deadline, which ends on August 7, he added. Hasan Basha also noted that previously, most pilgrims travelled via Hyderabad and Bengaluru, but this year, the Haj Committee has actively promoted Vijayawada to increase awareness and participation.

Visakhapatnam: Visakhapatnam MP M Sribharat met Union Minister for Labour and Employment Mansukh Mandaviya in New Delhi on Wednesday and apprised him of long-standing grievances of EPS-95 pensioners, particularly of those retired from the PSU and private sector establishments in Visakhapatnam. Highlighting numerous representations received from retired employees in this regard, the MP underlined the need to revise pension benefits and expedite settlement of dues. Among other issues, the MP spoke about discrepancies in PF records, delayed settlements, and how they impact financial and emotional wellbeing of the retired and serving workers. Responding to the concerns, the Union Minister assured that the Central government was considering an announcement to set a minimum pension for all EPS pensioners, and that a decision in this regard would be expected soon. Keeping the upcoming Khelo India Martial Arts Games in view, Sribharat pitched in for setting up a Centre of Excellence in Martial Arts in Visakhapatnam and submitted a formal proposal for the same. The proposed facility is aimed at enhancing sports infrastructure in the region and nurturing athletic talent through advanced training systems. 'The centre will position Vizag as a hub for martial arts excellence and contribute to India's sporting aspirations,' the MP mentioned.

The minister said that an official notification on the matter will be issued at an appropriate time. It is important to note that once formally constituted, the 8th CPC will outline a revised salary structure and pension framework for millions of government employees and retirees. According to the Ministry of Finance, the Centre is currently holding discussions with various departments and ministries, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Department of Personnel and Training, and several state governments. When is the Pay Commission formed? The Central Pay Commission is constituted every ten years to adjust the basic salary and pension in line with inflation and other rising costs. The 7th Pay Commission was implemented in 2016, and according to the 10-year cycle, the next round of revisions was expected around 2024–25. How much can the salary increase? Under the 8th Pay Commission, a big salary hike is expected for central government employees. According to the report: The basic salary may increase by 30 per cent to 34 per cent. The minimum basic pay, which is currently Rs. 18,000, could go up to around Rs. 30,000. The fitment factor (used to calculate revised salaries) is expected to be 1.8, which will give employees a real benefit of around 13 per cent in take-home pay.
