Egypt's FM Delivers Message from President Sisi to Niger President
Acting on behalf of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty delivered a written message to President Abdourahamane Tiani of Niger during an official visit to Niamey, the capital of Niger.
The letter reaffirmed the deep historical and fraternal ties between Egypt and Niger and expressed Egypt's commitment to enhancing cooperation across various sectors.
Abdelatty conveyed President Sisi's warm greetings to President Tiani and emphasized that the visit reflects Egypt's strategic focus on strengthening its partnership with Niger. He highlighted Egypt's ongoing support for the people of Niger, grounded in the long-standing connections between the two nations.
The Foreign Minister noted Egypt's appreciation for the recent positive momentum in bilateral relations, stressing the importance of building on these achievements to promote mutual interests and accelerate shared development.
He also led a high-level delegation of 30 Egyptian business leaders and representatives from major public and private companies, participating in the first Egypt–Niger Business Forum, which aims to boost economic, trade, and investment ties, particularly in energy, infrastructure, construction, and mining.
The minister also stressed the strategic importance of Niger's stability to Egyptian national security, citing the Sahel region as a natural extension of Egypt's strategic neighborhood. He underscored the growing threat of terrorism and the spread of armed groups across Africa, making security cooperation and intelligence sharing between Egypt and Niger an urgent priority.
The two sides also reviewed ongoing cooperation in counterterrorism and combating extremist ideologies, with Abdel Aaty highlighting Al-Azhar's role as a center of religious moderation.
He pointed to Al-Azhar's training of Nigerien imams and scholars, the dispatch of religious envoys, and the scholarships offered to Nigerien students at Al-Azhar University. The Minister also praised the work of the Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development in building Nigerien institutional capacity.
Regional and security issues were also discussed, including the escalating instability in the Sahel and West Africa, and the impact of conflicts in neighboring countries on broader regional security. Both sides emphasized the need for collective efforts to address these challenges.
President Tiani expressed his deep appreciation to President Sisi and the Egyptian government for their continued support of Niger, both in development and in facing security challenges. He welcomed the strengthening of ties with Egypt and praised Egypt's regional and international leadership, particularly Al-Azhar's educational and cultural contributions to Niger's religious and social sectors.

Petroleum Minister, IPIC chief discuss expanding local industry, investment in Egypt
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi met with Abdulkarim Abdullah Al-Mutawa, Chairperson of the International Pipe Industry Company (IPIC), to discuss strengthening local industrial capabilities and expanding investment in Egypt's petroleum sector. During the meeting, the two sides reviewed IPIC's activities, with particular focus on the company's factory in Port Said—established through joint Egyptian-Kuwaiti investments—as a successful model of industrial localization. The facility produces high-quality steel pipes and elbows used in oil and gas projects, infrastructure, transportation, and irrigation systems. Minister Badawi emphasized that promoting local industry is a national priority, given its critical role in reducing Egypt's import bill and increasing reliance on domestically manufactured components. He noted that the Ministry fully supports projects that contribute to industry localization, attract foreign and regional investment, and boost added value in the petroleum sector. 'The investment environment in Egypt is undergoing major positive transformations,' Badawi said, 'with significant incentives to encourage participation in energy, petroleum, and gas industries—particularly from Arab partners.' He added that the government is focused on offering promising investment opportunities while supporting the shift to renewable energy, including maximizing the use of natural gas in local manufacturing to generate greater economic returns. For his part, Al-Mutawa praised Egypt's investment climate and highlighted the strength of its engineering and technical workforce. He noted that IPIC's Port Said facility is fully operated by Egyptian professionals and benefits from the country's robust infrastructure, government support, and political stability—all essential ingredients for investment success. He also expressed appreciation for the ongoing support from the Ministry and Egyptian stakeholders, especially Petrojet, which played a key role in the project. The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to explore further expansion opportunities in line with Egypt's strategy to enhance local manufacturing and reduce dependency on imports. The Kuwaiti delegation affirmed its interest in increasing investment in Egypt, citing the country's favorable conditions for long-term industrial growth.

Plan underway to revitalise Egypt's silver industry amid fierce import competition
The Gold and Precious Metals Division at the Federation of Egyptian Industries (FEI) prepares a comprehensive strategy to revitalise Egypt's struggling silver industry. The plan will propose a series of measures to be submitted to the relevant authorities, as the sector grapples with growing reliance on imported silver products. In a statement issued on Friday, Ehab Wassef, head of the division, said many silver workshops across Egypt face significant obstacles that undermine their competitiveness. Chief among these is a shortage of skilled craftsmen, which he described as the backbone of an industry that depends heavily on manual dexterity and precision. Wassef highlighted another major challenge: intense competition from imported products, particularly those from China, Thailand and Turkey, which are sold at prices below local production costs, placing Egyptian workshops at a disadvantage. He explained that silver manufacturing is more labour-intensive than gold, as producing a single piece of silver requires roughly twice the effort, despite a gram of silver being about 65% the weight of a gram of gold. This makes the availability of skilled technicians critical to sustaining and growing the industry. According to Wassef, there is a determined push to expand domestic production and reduce reliance on imports. However, achieving this would require exempting imported production inputs from customs duties to lower operational costs and create fair competition. He also noted that Egypt currently lacks large-scale factories dedicated to silver production, with the sector largely comprising small and medium-sized workshops. To address this, the division is focusing on launching training programmes to produce new skilled technicians, alongside efforts to secure low-interest loans at a 5% rate. Wassef emphasised that Egypt's silver industry has considerable growth potential but needs tangible government support in the form of financing, easing regulatory burdens and fostering an environment conducive to training and production.
