The drama is a reimagining of Max Porter's Sunday Times bestseller Shy, named after its protagonist, a teenager who boards at the school with a programme for troubled youths.
The trailer shows Murphy's character describing himself to a film crew as 'very, very tired' amid clips of violence among pupils.
In a voiceover, he adds: 'These are extraordinarily complex young people.'
Other scenes sees Steve speaking to Shy, drinking an unknown substance from a small transparent bottle, and screaming while clenching his fists.
I May Destroy You star Jay Lycurgo plays Shy, a troubled teenager who needs to reconcile with his past and control his impulses for self-destruction and violence.
The movie shows Shy's interactions with Steve, who in turn is grappling with his mental health as he fights to protect the school from closure.
Tracey Ullman as Amanda and Cillian Murphy as Steve (Robert Viglasky/Neflix/PA)
Supporting cast include Tracey Ullman and Emily Watson, who starred with Murphy in the Irish drama Small Things Like These.
Murphy, 49, who is a producer for Steve, won a Bafta and Oscar last year for his title role in Sir Christopher Nolan's epic, Oppenheimer.
He plays Birmingham gangster Tommy Shelby in TV hit series Peaky Blinders, which is being turned into a film for Netflix which will also star Saltburn's Barry Keoghan.
Steve is in select cinemas from September 19 and on Netflix from October 3.

From Love Triangles To Baby Names - Everything You Need To Know About The Love Is Blind UK Couples

Love Is Blind season two might have only just landed on Netflix, but if you're anything like us, you will be dying to know which couples are still making it work on the outside. We've seen love triangles; indecision; back and forth, shared values and intense chemistry - which is all part of the package when you throw 30 singletons together and ask them to blindly date. Five couples have got engaged but chosen to go their separate ways, which means another five remain together. But will their relationships stand the test of time before their weddings in just a few weeks? Yes, Kal and Sarover are still very much together as it stands - although they could face some challenges late down the line. They instantly hit things off in the pod, with Kal even saying he couldn't get enough of Sarover's 'lovely little posh accent.' They faced an initial hurdle when it came to their backgrounds, and what their families might think of their growing relationship. When they met in person, things went smoothly - which as viewers know, is half the battle on the show. However, cracks began to show when Sarover expressed insecurity that she wasn't Kal's usual type, which according to his dating history is white and blonde women. Hopefully these two can overcome this hurdle! These two formed an instant connection, and even became the first couple to get engaged on the show. After their initial spark, they even got deeper with each other, opening up about their backgrounds and how that has shaped the partner they want today. However, a small hurdle happened when they discussed their careers - and how conflicting schedules might impact a relationship later down the line. Ashleigh is cabin crew on an aircraft and Billy is in the army. But when they met, their physical connection was undeniable and there was instant chemistry - particularly on their vacation in Cyprus. We've got every faith these two can go the extra mile. Unlike some of the other couples, it wasn't always smooth sailing for Sophie and Kieran. They became involved in a love triangle early on when Kieran was also getting to know Sophie. However, after a few dates he felt that he and Megan shared a deeper connection, while Sophie had a harder time getting deep. He affirmed that Sophie was the one when he bought her a present from Japan. However this led Sophie to feel hurt, and tell Megan about her relationship with Kieran. When Megan was confused, he reassured her 'I only want to do the rest of this journey with you.' Aww. Sophie left the experiment and Kieran ended up proposing to Megan. So far, so good - but with a return from Sophie on the cards, things might not be plain sailing for too long. Jed and Bardha instantly hit it off in the pod due to connecting over their life goals. They both want to build a family and agreed it was important to honour their heritages. They shared a number of deep stories with each other, discussed baby names and their connection grew so strong that Jed proposed. In Cyprus, the pair's connection only went from strength to strength, and they both feel confident they will fit right in with each other's families. So far, so good. But in a teaser for the upcoming episode, there could be some drama on the horizon, as Bardha is seen confessing to her girlfriend's that the couple had an argument. Watch this space to see how it plays out. Katisha and Javen instantly hit it off in the pods, with family values racing to the top of their priority list. However, there was a spanner in the works in the form of (yes, another) love triangle. Katisha was also forming a bond with Demola, and found herself torn between the two men. After back and forth between the two, initially choosing Demola, Katisha pivoted back to Javen. The pair started dating, and became one of the last couples to get engaged - with things taking off in Cyprus. However, this hasn't stopped outsiders weighing in on the dynamic - namely Kal, who had a problem with how Katisha behaved with Demola. In the teaser, Kal even goes on to confront Javen about this too. Can their relationship survive the strain of the outside world? Alice Hall is the Staff Writer at Grazia UK. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. Channel 4 Derry Girls' Saoirse-Monica Jackson's stunning three-day Irish wedding

Saoirse-Monica Jackson, who played Erin Quinn in the Bafta award-winning series Derry Girls, has married in a three-day celebration in Ireland Derry Girls actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson and her DJ partner honoured their Celtic roots as they tied the knot in a spectacular three-day Irish celebration. ‌ The 31-year-old, famed for portraying schoolgirl Erin Quinn in the beloved Channel 4 series, donned a cream gown featuring puff sleeves as she exchanged vows with Hector Barbour, professionally known as Denis Sulta, near Kenmare in Co Kerry. ‌ Fellow Derry Girls star Jamie-Lee O'Donnell opted for an elegant floor-length green Rat & Boa number whilst serving as one of the bridesmaids, as Jackson made her way down the aisle, accompanied by her father, to a rendition of the programme's iconic theme tune Dreams by The Cranberries. It comes after Andy Carroll 'splits from Lou Teasdale due to her demands' weeks after public row. ‌ Reflecting on the event to British Vogue, Jackson remarked: "Everybody said that the whole weekend was like something from a movie, and it really was. "I want to do it again." Jackson's gown underwent a stunning transformation for the evening reception, with the skirt being shortened and the corset reversed to showcase a tartan detail. The bride's bespoke Annie's Ibiza creation incorporated touching tributes to both her mother's and mother-in-law's bridal gowns in its design, she revealed to the magazine. Barbour popped the question with a bespoke ring during a seaside getaway in Donegal whilst the couple were clad in Dryrobes and Crocs, the pair disclosed to Vogue. ‌ Jackson revealed that Barbour had penned his entire proposal speech, which she treasured being able to revisit afterwards. The pair initially planned to tie the knot overseas for an alfresco celebration, but chose Ireland as a nod to their shared Celtic roots, they revealed to Vogue. In pictures captured by StoryofEve, Scottish-born Barbour donned a kilt and feathered hat for the nuptials, alongside his groomsmen. Sharing snaps from the festivities on Instagram, Jackson penned "to infinity and beyond", including a clip of her hubby sweeping her off her feet on the dance floor. ‌ In another post filled with videos from the big day, she expressed her gratitude to their loved ones, writing: "To all our loved ones, you are everything". One video captures Jackson in her bridal gown, playfully quipping "she's a shy bride, a very shy bride" before cheekily asking "When's the kissing?" A photo showed Jackson enjoying a pint of Guinness, while a video features the bride sharing a dance with O'Donnell, who portrayed fellow schoolgirl Michelle Mallon in Derry Girls. The Bafta-winning series, penned by Lisa McGee for Channel 4, chronicles the lives of teenagers growing up in Northern Ireland during the 1990s, prior to the Good Friday Agreement.
