Evan Engram: It was easy being first in building with Jaguars, it's tough with Broncos
Engram thrived on the field for most of his time in Jacksonville and left the Jaguars with 234 catches in 43 games, but he made it sound like he's found a better cultural fit for himself in Denver. Engram said that 'the way that this team connects, the way they push each other' has been his favorite thing about being with the Broncos and illustrated how that connection manifests itself at a training camp press conference.
'I tell people, all my family, it's hard to be the first one in the building,' Engram said, via DNVR Broncos. 'I'm used to being the first one. In Jacksonville, I was always the first one. It was really easy. Here, it's kind of tough. A lot of guys doing it at the highest level. It's just a contagious environment. We all want to get better, and we all have high standards that we all want to achieve together.'
The Broncos took a significant step forward in head coach Sean Payton's second season by going from 8-9 to making the playoffs for the first time since winning Super Bowl 50. They lost to Buffalo in their first playoff game, but the commitment that Engram has noticed could help push them even further up the AFC ladder in 2025.

Corey Parker has rejected suggestions Reece Walsh was solely to blame for the Broncos' loss to Parramatta on Friday night, saying the club's veteran leaders should bear the brunt of the backlash. "The Broncos have got Adam Reynolds at 35 years of age and over 300 games of experience. He's the No.7. He's what you would think is the leader of the football side. He's the captain, and he plays a real pivotal position. "Then you've got Ben Hunt at No.9 with just shy of 350 games. So between those two individuals you've got a collective 651 games between them. We hear so often when the Broncos win or don't win, it's either Reece Walsh has had an ordinary game or Reece Walsh has had a great game. [But] experience in big games and pivotal moments is paramount." Parker pointed out some of the leaders at other clubs who make sure their teammates are held accountable. Parker mentioned Stephen Crichton at the Bulldogs, Tom Dearden at the Cowboys and Harry Grant at the Storm, who stepped up and led his side past the Roosters with Ryan Papenhuyzen, Cameron Munster and Jahrome Hughes out. He added: "You look at the team atop the competition - the Canberra Raiders - wonderful leaders in their football side that don't deviate. Jamal Fogarty has plenty of youth in his team - Xavier Savage and Kaeo Weekes - but he does not deviate from what is required. Kicks to the corners really well and steers his team around the park when they start to get a little shaky. "I want to see the leaders of the Broncos really stand up over the next four or five weeks, and if they can do that, what flows off the back of it will certainly be warranted. You need talent and your best players on the field, but some of the leadership we've seen so far this year has been exceptional (at the top clubs)." Did the bye halt the Broncos' momentum? Parker said the Broncos may have suffered from having the bye in Round 20, which halted their momentum and eventually saw a six-game losing streak snapped. Coach Michael Maguire made a conscious decision to give his players a five-day break, but it might have cost them. The Broncos were leap-frogged by the Panthers and fell to sixth place with the loss - four points behind the Warriors in fourth. Maguire's side will need results to go their way if they're any hope of a top-four finish.

Broncos linebacker will miss 'extended period' after suffering foot injury
Denver Broncos inside linebacker Drew Sanders has been hit by the injury bug once again. Sanders, who was carted off the practice field on Saturday, is set to miss an "extended period" of time after suffering a tendon injury in his foot, NFL Network's Ian Rapoport first reported Sunday. He is not expected to return before the Broncos kick off the regular season against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 7. In a follow-up report, the Denver Post's Parker Gabriel noted that the Broncos and Sanders will decide on potential surgery in the coming days. Whether or not Sanders undergoes surgery will play a role in his exact recovery time. Denver coach Sean Payton said he was waiting for the results of an MRI when asked about Sanders following Saturday's practice. Rapoport later broke the news of the tendon injury following the MRI results on Sunday. Sanders (6-5, 233 pounds) was picked by the Broncos in the third round of the 2023 NFL draft after a breakout season at Arkansas. He dressed for all 17 games as a rookie, including four fill-in starts, and recorded 24 tackles. Sanders then injured his Achilles tendon during the 2024 offseason, an injury that sidelined him for most of last season. Sanders returned late last fall and dressed for four games, totaling eight tackles and one sack on 18 snaps. He has shown flashes of potential when healthy, but his latest injury is yet another setback after a discouraging 2024 campaign. This story will be updated.
