Kiren Rijiju launches UMEED Portal, says,
New Delhi [India], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister for Minority Affairs and Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju launched the UMEED Central Portal on Friday, a centralised digital platform for real-time uploading, verification, and monitoring of Waqf properties. Speaking on the occasion, Rijiju asserted that the portal will bring transparency in managing the Waqf properties. 'The UMEED Portal will add a new chapter in the history of Waqf property management and administration in India. It will not only bring transparency but will also help the common Muslims, particularly women and children,' Kiren Rijiju said. The portal, developed by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, was officially inaugurated by George Kurian, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs, at New Delhi. Calling it a historic step, Rijiju emphasised that the UMEED Central Portal is more than just a technological upgrade. 'It is a symbol of the government's firm commitment to safeguarding the rights of minority communities and ensuring that community-owned Waqf assets are utilised effectively and fairly, for the poor Muslims, for whom it was originally meant,' he added. According to a release, the UMEED Central Portal, short for Unified Waqf Management, Empowerment, Efficiency and Development Act, 1995, will serve as a centralised digital platform for real-time uploading, verification, and monitoring of Waqf properties. The portal is expected to introduce greater transparency, accountability, and public participation, thereby transforming the way Waqf assets are administered across India. The release stated the key features of the portal, including creation of a digital inventory with geo-tagging of all Waqf properties, online grievance redressal system for better responsiveness, transparent leasing and usage tracking, integration with GIS mapping and other e-Governance tools and Public access to verified records and reports. Addressing the gathering, George Kurian said the Portal is a long-awaited reform that will curb misuse and bring Waqf administration closer to the people. He added, 'The system ensures that every property is accounted for and used in accordance with the purpose it was endowed for.' The Secretary, Ministry of Minority Affairs, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Kumar said that he expected the UMEED Portal to become the backbone of digital Waqf governance, thereby ensuring that the Waqf assets contribute meaningfully to education, healthcare, livelihood generation and social welfare, especially for underprivileged sections within the Muslim community. SOG arrests 3 govt employees for role in 2021 SI paper leak
Jaipur: Special Operations Group (SOG) of Rajasthan Police Thursday arrested three govt officials in connection with the 2021 Sub-Inspector recruitment examination paper leak case, further unravelling a complex web of corruption in the recruitment process. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The arrests include two assistant accounts officers (AAOs)—Purushottam Dadhich (35) and Sandeep Kumar Lata (43)— and a Grade III teacher, Kundan Kumar Pandya (54), as confirmed by DIG (SOG) Paris Deshmukh. Dadhich, a resident of Didwana-Kuchaman, was already placed under suspension by the medical and health department in Udaipur where he was serving, while Lata, a resident of Sikar, was posted at the treasury and accounts department in Jaipur. Pandya was posted at a govt primary school in Palwada, Dungarpur. The TOI reported on Jan 5 that the Special Investigation Team (SIT) mentioned in its report that Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) member Babu Lal Katara, who was arrested in the same case, allegedly handed over six sets of the 2021 SI exam question papers to commission colleague Ramu Ram Raika. These were later leaked to Dadhich also, who allegedly circulated them for profit nearly a month before the exam. Investigators believe that Katara's association with Dadhich during the former's posting in Udaipur facilitated the leak. The investigation has revealed a broader conspiracy than initially suspected. Earlier findings suggested that RPSC member Katara leaked the papers only to benefit his colleague Raika's children—Devesh and Shobha—both of whom were arrested while undergoing SI training in Jaipur. However, recent developments indicate a commercial operation where question papers reached Dadhich and the same were sold to multiple candidates. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now According to the SIT, Dadhich received Hindi and General Knowledge papers weeks before the Sept 2021 examination and collaborated with Lata and Pandya to distribute them to select candidates in exchange for money. Dadhich's role emerged last year following the arrest of trainee sub-inspectors identified as Renu, Surendra Bagadia and Surjeet, who got the exam paper beforehand. However, when the police arrested the trio, Dadhich went underground.

Arunachal Pradesh to shut 386 govt schools with zero enrolment
Itanagar: To ensure optimal utilisation of resources, the Arunachal Pradesh government has ordered the immediate closure of 386 government schools having zero enrollment, officials said on Tuesday. Last year also, the Education Department of the Arunachal Pradesh government had also closed 600 schools, which were either non-functional or had zero enrolment. Commissioner (Education) Amjad Tak in a notification said that in order to ensure optimal utilisation of resources, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh ordered for immediate closure of 386 government schools having zero enrollment. The teachers currently posted in these 386 schools are to be withdrawn and re-posted to other government schools where there is shortage of teaching staff, as per the Teacher Transfer and Posting Policy through the concerned Deputy Director of School Education. "All the concerned Deputy Directors of School Education shall ensure timely issuance of posting/redeployment orders and updating the same in official records and UDISE (Unified District Information System for Education) Portal, accordingly," the notification said. Another senior official of the School Education Department said that the 386 schools comprises primary, upper primary, middle, and secondary schools which have had no student enrolment this year. Of the 386 schools, the highest number of 73 schools would be closed in West Kameng district, bordering Bhutan and Nagaland, followed by 50 schools in Papum Pare, 31 in West Siang, 28 each in Upper Subansiri and Siang, 23 in East Kameng, 22 in Kurung Kumey, 16 in Changlang, 15 in Upper Siang, 12 each in Pakke Kessang and Leparada and 11 in Tawang district, the official said. Districts with fewer closures of schools include Kra Daadi (8), Shi-Yomi (7), Lower Siang, Tirap, Kamle and Anjaw (5 each), Capital Complex (4), East Siang (2) and one each in Namsai and Dibang Valley. Arunachal Pradesh, which shares international borders with China, Myanmar and Bhutan, has 26 districts. According to the official, the decision was taken in line with the objective of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which emphasised the consolidation of school infrastructure to enhance academic outcomes and resource efficiency. Nearly 600 government schools have already been shut down or merged with other schools in 2024. Arunachal Pradesh has over 2,800 government-run lower primary, upper primary, secondary and higher secondary schools, with more than 7,600 regular teachers working in these schools.
