Police bust RM21.85mil drug lab making narcotics-laced vape liquids in Ampang
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the first raid led to the arrest of four people, including three foreigners, along with the confiscation of various drugs and vape processing equipment.
"A search of the premises uncovered seven vape cartridges suspected to contain cocaine (about 57 grams), 2.7 kilograms (kg) of suspected powdered cocaine and 124.6 kg of liquid believed to contain MDMA (methylenedioxymethamphetamine)," he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters today.
The second raid, conducted the same day at a different condominium unit, resulted in the seizure of 41 grams of dried cannabis, 140 grams of MDMA-laced vape liquid and 56 grams of suspected powdered cocaine.
Hussein said a 28-year-old foreign man was arrested in the second operation and subsequently tested positive for morphine during a urine test.
Initial investigations revealed that one of the foreign suspects acted as the chemist, while the others served as runners and assistants. The syndicate is believed to have been active since October 2024.
Background checks showed that two of the foreign male suspects detained in the first raid had prior criminal records, including document forgery, criminal intimidation, fraud, drug-related offences, public disorder and assault.
The syndicate's modus operandi involved renting two condominium units, each at RM6,000 per month, which were converted into laboratories to process drug-infused vape liquids for distribution to both local and international markets, Hussein said.
He added that the group's estimated monthly profit from the operation was around RM200,000.
Police also seized vehicles, local and foreign currencies, laptops, jewellery and branded watches, bringing the total value of seizures and confiscated assets to RM21.9 million.
All suspects have been remanded for seven days from June 26 to assist investigations under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for the mandatory death penalty upon conviction. - BERNAMA

Cyberjaya murder: Suspect used access card, keys given by victim's housemate

Image for illustrative purposes only. - CANVA SHAH ALAM – The main suspect in the murder of a female university student in Cyberjaya is believed to have entered her condominium unit using an access card and keys provided by his girlfriend. Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed that the suspect is the boyfriend of one of the three women who were previously arrested in connection with the case. 'The access card and keys to the unit were handed over directly by the suspect's girlfriend. We do not rule out the possibility that the suspect had malicious intent toward the victim. 'At the time of the incident, the victim was living alone as her housemates had returned to their hometowns for the semester break,' he said during a press conference at the Selangor Police Headquarters on Tuesday. 'The suspect is believed to have struck the victim with an object, causing injuries that led to her death,' he added. However, police are continuing their investigation to determine whether any form of assault took place. Following the incident, the suspect is believed to have attempted to cover his tracks by disposing of the victim's belongings. 'He threw away her mobile phone and disposed of her laptop, keys and access card. Police have since recovered several of these items,' Hussein said. He added that police are finalising the investigation and will submit the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor soon. The three women previously arrested, including the main suspect's girlfriend, a friend of the victim who lived in the unit above, and another woman who was with the suspect during an ATM withdrawal, are still assisting police with their inquiries. The case came to light after the victim's body was found in her condominium unit in Cyberjaya at 10.28am last Tuesday. The murder was reportedly solved within 48 hours following the arrest of four suspects, one man and three women. It was also reported that the main suspect used the victim's ATM card to withdraw RM200 shortly after the incident. Sepang District Police Chief ACP Norhizam Bahaman previously confirmed that the arrests were made between Thursday morning and early Friday in Johor Bahru and Gemencheh, Negeri Sembilan, by teams from Bukit Aman, the Selangor Police Headquarters and the Sepang District Police.

Ipoh oil and gas consultant loses RM2.7mil in online investment scam
IPOH: An oil and gas consultant in Ipoh lost approximately RM2.7mil to a fraudulent online investment scheme, according to Comm Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin. The Perak police chief reported that the 37-year-old victim realised he had been scammed on May 20 after continuously failing to withdraw the "profits" from the scheme. Comm Noor Hisam explained that the victim registered on a website called "Nova 88" in April 2023, after learning about it from an acquaintance. "Trusting the acquaintance, the victim initially invested about RM30,000 into a bank account provided to him to obtain a login name and password for the website to check his investment. "Between Jan 5, 2024, and May 20 this year, the victim made 136 transactions into seven different accounts, totalling around RM2.7mil," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 2). "The funds were from the victim's own savings and contributions from his family members. Whenever he tried to withdraw the earnings, he was required to make more payments, but was still unable to access the money," he said, adding that a police report was lodged on June 29. "The acquaintance provided excuses when questioned and has since become uncontactable," he added. Comm Noor Hisam advised the public against engaging in investments offered on unverified or unregistered websites, or those not regulated by recognised authorities. "High-risk investments like this can lead to significant losses," he said, noting that the case is being investigated under Section 402 of the Penal Code for cheating. "Always check the background of the investment company with relevant agencies like Bank Negara or the Securities Commission before making any decisions," he added.
